From the moment I walked through its massive stone entrance, I knew I was somewhere truly extraordinary. The interior is jaw-dropping. Every room is more intricate than the last—carved ceilings, polished wood, and walls lined with fascinating art collections. But what made the biggest impact on me wasn’t just the architecture—it was the atmosphere. The castle tells complex stories, from immense wealth and Victorian innovation to the darker legacy of colonialism and the sugar trade. The National Trust does a thoughtful job presenting these layered histories, encouraging you to reflect while still being awed by the surroundings. In Snowdonia National Park, is this stunning gem and the best thing - it is easily accessible from the road and rail network. Within a few hours drive of Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham and located just off the A55 is Aber Falls. The views of the falls is certainly impressive, and it’s possible to do this walk in just over an hour. In the summer, you can even go wild swimming here and head into the splash pool. Then, from here, just half an hour’s drive away is the breathtaking Llyn Idwal. Here you can see the Devil’s Kitchen poking through.
