The Leshan Giant Buddha was carved into the cliff at the confluence of the three rivers (Minjiang, Daduhe, and Qingyijiang), so to get up close and see it, you have to climb up and down a steep cliff. It's quite thrilling!! You can get a good sense of the real size of the statue because you can see it up close. After the thrilling experience, you can walk along the cliff and reach the finish line. The problem here is that you end up quite far away, on the opposite side of the starting line. At this point, you have no choice but to go along with the movements of the Chinese people around you. As expected, there was a bus stop and we were able to return to the entrance where we started!!

Leshan Buddha attraction was amazing and beautiful to see. It was very easy to get to after doing my research. There is a train from Chengdu east that takes around 1hr to Leshan. Once in Leshan I went the scenic route and got the bus from the bus station next to the train station. The bus K1 takes you there in 30mins, when you get there it a 10min walk to the entrance to the North gate. You can buy your ticket there and no need to prebook just have your ID. Best option is to get a hotel nearby if it's not a daily trip. We had lucky to be in one small hotel with personal valley service. Parking is convenient and cheap on spot. Go in the afternoon just before sunset. Once you buy tickets, pass gate and 20-30mins of climbing. During summer with hot weather and humidity isn't so fun. Cicadas doesn't make it any easier. Also, some of places inside were closed like Cave-Thomb-Museum and food vendors. Carving this amazing statue is really mesmerizing. Plenty of time to do some selfies. On our 2019 trip to China we were lucky enough to do a day tour from Chengdu to the Leshan area. The start of the full day tour led us to the spectacular Tea Terraces and although I wish I could remember their exact location I unfortunately can not. I can remember vividly though how amazing the view was walking up through row upon row of Tea hedges until we reached a little house at the top of one of the family plantations. When we arrived we were shown the proper way to pick the leaves and what leaves we needed to pick before filling our baskets. Once we had enough tea leaves we were shown back to the plantation house where the most amazing lady demonstrated how the leaves are "cooked" in order to achieve the different types of tea we enjoy (in my case daily). The skill with which she dried the leaves and moved them around the large hot wok was unbelievable. The whole morning was ver awe inspiring. On our way back towards Leshan we stopped in "old town" for lunch. To this day it is one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten. The walk around town and was eye opening as well. This was the local community life I thought we were going to see much more of on our trip, instead of the big cities that we had seen so far. A very enjoyable day. #gooutside
