Osh Bazaar in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Bazaars are always will be the heart of every city in Central Asia. They pump life into the city with their loud and chaotic nature. Since the Silk Road era, bazaars was the windows into globalisation and a meeting point between east and west, shaping the paths of civilisation across the world. 3000m above sea level. Horseback riding in the snowy mountains with a spectacular view. I went horseback riding in Bozsarkun near Bokonbayeva village in Kyrgyzstan. This was also arranged through the local CBT. We loaded the horses into the car and drove up the mountain, then started riding from there. It took about two hours to reach the spectacular view, and we took a lunch break there. I still can't forget the panoramic view. The horses were so cute, and I was sad to say goodbye at the end. #MarchGoodPlaces2025 Walking west from #Karakol in #Kyrgyzstan for two hours along the mountain road, you will reach a small mountain town called Jyrgalan. We asked at the bus station in Karakol if there was a bus to this place. Even the bus drivers forgot about this place. They said they didn't know there was such a place and there were no buses going there. It took me more than an hour to find a driver and find out how to get there. You can hire his car, it's not expensive, about HK$200. This mountain town is being developed into a new ski resort. So a five-star resort is being built on the top of the mountain. Summer is a green hillside. You can hike, ride horses, and have a picnic on the grass. You can hike into the mountain in 5 hours, and anyone with outdoor experience can easily reach it. There were no supplies along the way. The climate in the plateau changes quickly, so bring a raincoat, umbrella and jacket. Don't worry about accommodation, there are many yurts, there will be a place to stay even in the peak season, and the hosts can speak some English so communication is not a problem. I bargained down the price from 1500 som per person to 1400, including dinner and breakfast. There are 5 people in a room, and if there are fewer guests, they can stay alone. The quilt was thick and I didn't feel cold. Dinner includes a small plate of pilaf, a bowl of noodle soup and a small plate of salad. It is enough to fill you up. Hot tea and hot water are provided. Natural hot springs: Not every hotel has them, but the ones at the innermost ones have them. Even if you don't live there, you can still pay to take a bath in a small house. It costs 250 soms per person, and renting a towel is 100 soms for 30 minutes. The conditions are simple but the water temperature is quite high. Nomadic yurts are dotted along the lakeshore, while cattle, sheep and horses graze leisurely by the lake, adding to the tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. The tranquility of Songkul Lake contrasts with the majestic mountain backdrop, showcasing the unique charm of Kyrgyzstan's pristine nature. It is only open in summer. In winter, it is not suitable to visit because of the heavy snow. Although it is summer, you still need to keep warm. Because although the sun is strong, there are gusts of cold wind. Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bounded by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, and Tajikistan to the southwest. It is the farthest country in the world from the ocean. Also because of this, Kyrgyzstan is full of many inland country special natural landscapes, such as plateaus, alpine lakes and so on. And it is because of the highly variable terrain in the interior, many places that are not suitable for living at all times of the year, that they will have nomads. There are still quite a few nomads :) Map of Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan mainly visits an alpine lake called Song Kul Lake, which is a 3000m high lake, another area that many backpackers go to is along the different natural landscapes of Issyk Kul Lake, such as the beautiful mountains called Alxa and some different shapes of canyons. Method of excursion The main ways to visit the famous attractions of Kyrgyzstan are: Join a local tour by bus (transportation) Find friends online/youth hostel to drive together Shared taxi A detailed comparison will be analyzed in another article. Find the right tour The more convenient and easier way for me is to join a local tour, fortunately I met an aunt in Singapore on the first day of arrival in Kyrgyzstan, who had done enough research online to find a reasonable price and enough number of tours. So I ended up joining a five-day tour worth $400 that would visit the attractions around Song Kul Lake and Issyk Kul Lake mentioned above. The first day of joining the tour Here are the times and events that happened during the first day of my entire trip for an overview and reference: First day of journey Time events 8:30 Boarding in the city of Kyrgyz Bishaik 11:00 Arrive at Branna Tower and excursion 14:00 Lunch 17:30 Arrive at Wong Lake and free activities 19:00 Song Lake Dinner 20:30 Go to bed Meeting: Boarding within the city of Kyrgyzbez The tour departs at 8:30 in the morning, first to a place called Olive hotel to meet, I stayed in the hostel last night very close, so walk a few 8 minutes to 🤭 The travel agency has an office at the Olive Hotel, so at first assembled in the office, the travel agency distributed me, each with a map and a scarf printed with local characteristic dolls. It's also quite courteous. After waiting for everyone, we started to get on the bus. There were nine people in our group, Asians with me and Singapore, and the others were mainly European or American, so English was predominant by then. The tour bus we took for five days was very clean and comfortable seats. Our guide was a 19 year old local youth, very energetic and responsible. Scenery along the way Nomads in horseback riding Local Activities & Mongolian Package Accommodation Around 5:30 to reach our destination, Song Kul Lake! Song Lake And where we stayed tonight, Yurt!First time staying, was a bit excited. There are some very primitive places, the yurt in the yurt is called lucky to have lights, but some electricity (supplyed by a generator) is limited supply, so the power bank is very important. Of course there is also no network there, temporarily hanging on to a life of disconnection. Yurt The day weather is general, so the photos are not so make, but the eyes are very make and will be more shocking, the lake in the plateau land, this lake if winter comes when it is ice, and where I live will be full of snow. So the people who live there are called nomads, their land will change their place of residence with the weather. We went to take pictures, sit and look at the nature, feel the life of the nomads, see the cattle and horses, and it was almost dark to get ready for dinner. That night ate some local food, some buns and fried rice, interestingly my Singaporean aunt and I bought some pretty cheap spirits before coming, that night each had a cup to drink quite happy Nomads' dinner Kyrgyz spirits And where we live is 6 people sleep in a yurt, a bit forced, but there is no way, although it is very cold outside, but the bed in the yurt it is provided quilt is very warm. And the day was tiring, so I fell asleep quickly. Inside the Mongolian bag Which got up at 11 to see the stars, but it turned out to be raining, strong cold, but had to go to the toilet, so I ended up rushing. It was an unforgettable experience, but not being able to take a shower, it was a bit hard, it was some one-time good experience. But the surprise is that his toilet uses some windproof material, which is very warm inside the toilet compartment. Chong Hu Toilet I met a Macau friend It is worth mentioning that when I went to Song Kul Lake, I met two Macau people there, a couple who resigned from Central Asia. I was glad that after so many days it was even in a place where there was no network so far away to speak Cantonese, very friendly, we all ate together and talked to each other about their itinerary and travel experiences, it was a very pleasant and happy experience. We have since left everyone's contact details, together with each other, exchange the trip to Central Asia :) And unlike coming as a tour group, they use a bus plus shared taxi to spend 12 days to and tour the entire Kyrgyz main attractions, compared to my group that went all in five days, they can have more time to communicate with the locals and stay at each attraction. Personal feelings that day In fact, the whole day's drive is very long, probably five or six hours, and is up the mountains, so I am there to take some dizziness pills for myself to adapt. And the first day on the tour and the other group members were not said to be very familiar, but felt everyone was quite friendly. Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 Bishkek Food Recommendations|||I have been to Kyrgyzstan twice on business trips and have been eating non-stop. Kyrgyz cuisine is quite rich, with more Asian dishes, which are more suitable for Chinese tastes than European ones. P2 torro Steak house, delicious, we ordered the T-bone and ribeye. The steak was very big, and the salad was also very big, enough for two people. P3 skyberry The cafe has average main dishes, but the breakfast and desserts are delicious, and the signature spaghetti bolognese is also pretty good. I tried Russian coffee (raf coffee) for the first time here. It was delicious but too sweet. P4 Furusato A Japanese restaurant I like very much! 🇰🇬Kyrgyzstan is also famously known as the Switzerland of Central Asia, and they are not wrong. With an average elevation 2,600m, the country is scattered full of beautiful, and untouched nature. We travelled Kyrgyzstan during September 2024, and here are our tips. Day 1: Explore Bishkek Bishkek is the capital city with a population of 1 million people. Explore: - Ala Too Square - Victory Square - Osh Bazaar Day 2-3: Take in the largest lake in Kyrgyzstan - Issyk Kul Head on down to the south of Issyk Kul lake. Why not stay in a yurt camp on the lake? Bokonbeyvo, or Tong could be good place to rest. Here you can explore: - Golden Eagle Hunting 🦅 - Skazka Canyon Day 4: Karakol - the base for the next few days Karakol is the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan and is also a great base for few hikes around the area. Day 5-7: Ala Kul Lake OR Altyn Arshan 🥾 If hiking is your thing, why not hike to one of the most beautiful lakes, with a distance of 50km over 3 days, it is tough but well worth it. OR stay in a guesthouse or yurt camp in Altyn Arshan, to really enjoy the nomadic life and the picturesque green windows backdrop. Stay in a yurt camp along the Kok-Kiya Valley and head to Kel Suu Lake to witness a beautiful blue turquoise lake against dramatic grey cliffs. Day 11-13: Horse ride around Song Kul Lake 🐎 Horse trek around Song Kul Lake and stay in truely nomadic yurt camps, unplugged for 3 whole days. This is truly an experience. Skazka Canyon is a beautiful canyon located on the southern shores of Issyk Kul, just off the main road from Bokonbaevo to Karakol. 🚗 How to get there? 1. 🚌You can catch a Marshrutka from Bokonbaevo towards Karakol and asked to be dropped off on the main road. Keep in mind you’ll still need to walk another 2km to actually get to the site, or hitchhike the rest of the way. 2. 🚕 We booked a taxi from CBT Bokonbaevo for 2000 soms. The driver waited for us and drove us back. 🕐 How long to spend? You can explore all the nooks and cranny with lots of photo opportunities. The Kok Moinok Canyon is located in the Tianshan Mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The terrain looks very similar to Xinjiang, perhaps because they are in the same mountain range. The canyon is a bit far from the city, so we chose to join a local day tour to get there. It took about an hour to reach the canyon, and the rural scenery along the way was very good. After getting off the bus, we had to walk for another 20 minutes to reach the Grand Canyon. The canyon here is free (in fact, most attractions do not require tickets), and there are no traces of artificial development. The whole way is pure dirt road, very primitive. The depth of the canyon reaches 1500 meters, the peaks are steep, and many cliffs have no guardrails, so you must be careful when walking. If you can drive by yourself, it is actually recommended to camp in the canyon. Because the entire canyon is particularly large and there is no human life to disturb. It is said that there are many rare animals and plants in the canyon, including snow leopards, brown bears, goats and other wild animals, as well as various alpine plants. There are also many hot springs and mineral springs here, so it's actually good to come in spring, summer, autumn and winter. Kok Moinok Canyon is also a famous ski resort in Kyrgyzstan, attracting a large number of ski enthusiasts to challenge every year. After seeing the domestic unified planning, all the scenic spots have wooden fences. The experience of free exploration here is very interesting. I can't say how good their attractions are compared to Xinjiang, Sichuan, and Tibet in China, but it's really worth a visit.
