Coconut Beach (Pantai Kelapa) in Samboja is a peaceful stretch of coastline located about 1 hour’s drive (±50 km) from Balikpapan city. This lesser-known beach is lined with swaying coconut trees, offering natural shade and a truly relaxed vibe. Popular among locals but rarely crowded, it’s ideal for laid-back picnics, beach games, or simply enjoying the sea breeze. The beach also has a gentle slope, making it suitable for families with kids. It’s not just the beach — the road trip itself is scenic, passing through rural Kalimantan landscapes, giving you a taste of East Borneo’s charm.

A great place for hiking
#indonesiatrip Great place to relax and go for a hike through the untouched jungle/rainforest. Amazing views and scenery from the canopy bridge, as well as very nice hiking trails. Some of the trails are however not marked super well so be prepared to search a bit.
Bring lots of water of course! Well worth any visit even though it’s quite the drive, definitely recommended!
