Tiger Mountain (Hushan) Great Wall is a restored section of the eastern end of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, well known for the breathtaking views of the surrounding forestry and landscape. This particular section is located in a small village named Hushan in Kuandian County, Liaoning Province. It was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and overlooks the Yalu River which served as an important natural land barrier. Main purpose then was to protect against invasion by Mongol forces and Jurchen tribes to the north, Japanese from the northeast as well Korean attacks from the south. Highlights of the visit : - Breathtaking scenery and panoramic views of North Korea across the Yalu River. - Explore 12 gate towers, and see some Ming-style buildings. - The highest peak of Hushan Great Wall is a beacon / observaton tower. From there, you can overlook North Korea. - The Great Wall History Museum onsite is worth a visit if you wish to find out more about the Hushan section and the rest of the Great Wall. As this Is a much less crowded section of the Great Wall compared to other locations, you can have more space to take awesome shots and uninterrupted selfies ! Note : Steps are steep and narrow so do wear proper attire and shoes. Take some rest and water break along the way. This lesser known Great Wall is more manageable to hike as it is not as long as the one in Beijing. Being lesser known, it also means lesser tourist, making the trip more enjoyable. What’s unique about this scenic spot is you can see North Korea from above, and there is a spot here that is literally one foot away from North Korean territory, but you can’t step or take photos in that spot. Dandong, Liaoning is the main border crossing between China and North Korea. A popular attraction is the broken bridge, bombed on the Korean side by the United States during the Korean War. You can walk to the end of what's left and gaze across to Sinujiu in the Hermit Kingdom. A river cruise is another way to get a good view of the Korean side. Dandong was also the end of the Great Wall of China during the Ming Dynasty. The heavily restored wall is another excellent place to look into Korea, as it's close to the modern border. Guomen, Dandong, Liaoning Province.

Guomen in Dandong is said to be the only Guomen landscape on the China-North Korea border, with the No. 19 boundary marker nearby. It takes an hour and a half to drive from Dandong City, all the way along the Yalu River, with a nice view, facing North Korea across the river, and most of the roadside is fenced with barbed wire. This road has many curves, the road condition is average, and the speed is very slow. It is said to be a Guomen scenic spot online, but it is not a scenic spot. Except for the railway bridge, which charges according to the scenic spot standard, there is nothing else, no parking lot, no toilet. We took two photos and went back. Passing Shanghekou, we saw a lot of tourist buses parked, so we turned in. The parking lot charges 10 yuan, but at least there is a toilet. You can take a boat tour of the Yalu River here. It is said that you can see the North Korean sentry post, the women's barracks, and the second largest industrial city in North Korea, Qingshui City, from the boat. When we saw so many tour groups, we just took a few photos from a distance and left. There is another scenic spot near Dandong City - Hushan Great Wall, which is the starting point of the eastern end of the Ming Great Wall. In summer, it provides catering services and the rooms are excellent with great service. 👌 I visited in winter and felt that the winter season is the best time to experience the unique features of this place. You can ice fish all day long. The shop will provide all the equipment and patiently teach you how to play. I brought my own steak, Shin Ramyun noodles and cooking utensils. My friends and I enjoyed a warm and cozy time in the tent. The stove kept us warm and my friend even took off his socks because he was too hot. 💕 The fish here are super easy to catch! I've never caught so many fish ice fishing before. I guess it's because the bait is fresh! There are ice sleds and snow play equipment on the ice. At night, you can lie in the tent and watch the stars and set off fireworks. ✨ You'll feel relaxed and moved by the winter nature. 😍 The rooms are fully equipped, very clean and well-maintained. Even without the fireplace, it's still warm. You can roast sweet potatoes and bread on the fireplace and spread chocolate sauce on them for a delicious treat. Additional notes on the scenery along G331 from Yanji to Lujiang Village. The first stop after leaving Yanji is Ji'an, where you can visit the Volunteer Army Crossing Point and the Big Guitar Square. After lunch in Ji'an, continue driving towards Liaoning. The provincial border is located at the end of a large bridge. Navigate to the Hunjiang Grand Turnaround Viewing Platform for spectacular views. Parking is free here, but it can get crowded. Turn around and head back to the bridge towards Liaoning. Navigate to Xiaotianche, passing the Hunjiangkou Stone Tablet along the way. You can park at the hotel entrance, where there is also a tourist restroom. There weren't many people on the day I visited. Continue along G331 towards Lujiang Village. The road is not in great condition, with winding mountain roads and narrow lanes. As the sun began to set, I arrived at Xiaotianche, which offered beautiful scenery. I stayed overnight in Lujiang Village.
