Enjoy a Spa Extravaganza in Kagawa! Kobaitei〈Hot Spring Facility〉
The hotel offers such a variety of hot spring facilities that it feels like you're touring different baths without ever leaving the premises. The hospitality was top-notch and truly wonderful. If you're staying at Konpira Onsen, I highly recommend Kobaitei.
◆ Inside the Hotel: 'Hanasumika'
There are saunas, open-air baths, and a massage area called 'Ashiyasume.' The women's open-air bath had roses floating in it at night and orchids in the morning.
◆ Outside the Hotel: 'Garden Open-Air Bath & Hana Terrace'
There are foot baths, a 'Hitoyasumi' café, and open-air baths surrounded by greenery. The Hitoyasumi café offers free alcohol at night as a post-bath treat.

Kagawa Prefecture: Amazing! Udon Prefecture Hospitality Passport
If you're planning to visit Kagawa Prefecture, we highly recommend getting the 'Udon Prefecture Hospitality Passport' first. 1368 steps to the inner shrine of Kotohira -gu
Kotohira shrine in Kagawa prefecture in Shikoku is a shrine dedicated to sailors and seafarers. It is situated at 521 m - halfway to the top of Mount Zozu.
The journey starts from the Kotohira town where there is a row of souvenir shops and restaurants, and it will gradually go uphill with a long stretch of stairs. There is a large tori at the entrance of Kotohira- gu, while the two sides stood many stone pillars marking the “millions “ of yen contributed to the shrine over the years.
There were many large and small shrines as we walked up the long flight of stairs, and we made our first stop at 477 steps where there were two beautiful white horses that werr 14 and 18 years old. There was also a cafe at 500 steps but it was already closed when we arrived.
Our next stop was the Main Shrine at 785 steps. The view of the nearby towns and fields from there was quite spectacular! However as it was closed to 5pm we noticed the workers started to close some of the windows of the shrine. Just as we were about to start uphill again, we were told that the premise gate will close by 6pm, and we should start to go downhill. As much as we wanted to reach the top, we couldn’t make it this time.
If you are planning to complete the whole journey uphill, I would recommend to start from 2 or 3 pm latest as there are many interesting things to see and photos to be taken. You would also want to take your time to walk slowly and rest from time to time. There is no admission fee to visit Kotohira gu.

One day tour at Kotohira 琴平町
Kotoshira is at Shikoku in Japan, which is an island between Osaka and Kyushu. It's not a very common travelling place as it's more rural - people tend to go to the city.
It's indeed a nice place as there are a lot of locals and little tourists.
1. Kotohiragu
- Known as the hardest-to-go temple as it's up on the hill
2. Street
- Udon flavoured ice cream - very special
- Customise wooden keychain souvenir
- Local restaurant with homy food like sashimi set and tempura
Climbing 785 Steps with a Dizzy Mind
Heatwave Warning in Takamatsu.
Even if I skip other plans, I wanted to climb Kotohira Shrine.
Half for phytoncide absorption, half for mental victory through physical exhaustion.
At 6:04 AM, I took the first Kotoden train and arrived at Kotohira Station around 7 AM after an hour's ride.
Climbing countless steps, drenched in sweat as if it were raining, I silently ascended the stairs.
The mountains and trees shield me from the sun.
A breeze cools my heated body.
Cafe and Restaurant: Shiseido Parlour 🇯🇵
#thingstodo
One of the highlights of our trip to Kanagawa Japan was a visit to the Cafe and Restaurant serviced by Shiseido Parlour Kamitsubaki, and it was well worth a visit!
This cafe and restaurant is located inside the Konpira Shrine grounds. In addition to the drink menu, the light meals and snacks served feature locally produced ingredients. Everything was delicious!
Address:
892-1 Kotohira-cho, Nakatado-gun, 766-0001 Kagawa
My rating: 4 ⭐️ out of 5!
Konpira Shrine (Kotohiragu), Kagawa 🇯🇵
#thingstodo
One of the top attractions in Kagawa Prefecture Japan is the Konpira Shrine, also known as Kotohiragu, which was a place of worship as both a Shintō shrine and a Buddhist temple.
The shrine has several buildings located at intervals on the side of steep Mount Zōzu, linked by a long path with many steps. Climbing up all the steps is an effort, but you will be rewarded by some beautiful sights and views!
Highly recommend a visit, you’ll be in awe!

Luxurious Ryokan in Shikoku - Kotohira Kadan
Kotohira Kadan is a luxurious ryokan in Kotohira Onsen town. As the town is not big, it is easy to walk to the ryokan from the town center.
The lodging premise is large and has parking a few spaces in front of the ryokan lobby, and a large parking lot just across the street.
We booked a four person room with private spa , and it was truly enjoyable. The room has a separate bedroom with two full size beds which were very comfortable. Two other futons were set in the living room in the evening. The bathroom was spacious with a private spa. There is also a balcony with sofa, overlooking the lovely Japanese garden below.
We checked in quite late in the evening but the staff were helpful to drive us back into the Main Street and to the few izakayas that were opened.
The premise is well maintained. It has two public spa for male and female guests. It also has private spa that can be booked in advance - including a private room with TV, sofa within the spa room. Each guest can book the private spa for one 45 minutes session for free during their stay.
Guests can also enjoy a glass of sparkling wine in the bar after 9 pm as well as enjoy the foot bath overlooking the garden.
Overall we had a great time at this ryokan and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kotohira.

Udon making experience😋
We stayed one night at Kotohira and visited Kotohiragu and Takaya Shrine in March
One of the most memorable activity there was to make udon from the scratch by ourselves. The fee was around 2000yen which was quite worthy to us.
First we were given a piece of pre-made dough so we could scroll it and cut into pieces by ourselves.
Afterwards, we can make the dough by ourselves by mixing flour and water. We had to wait for the fermentation so we were taught about the theory of udon making.
At last, we could bring the udon made by ourselves to the dining area to taste immediately.
We couldn't understand Japanese that's why it was not too enjoyable when listening to the theory. But overall it's still a very enjoyable experience!
The Oldest Kabuki Theater

Getting there: Kanamaruza Kabuki Theater is located about a 15-20 minute walk from JR Kotohira and Kotoden Kotohira stations.
Highlights: The Kanamaruza Kabuki Theater is Japan's oldest surviving, complete kabuki playhouse. It still stages kabuki performances, featuring some of the country's most popular kabuki stars. 😃
When no shows are held, the theater is open to visitors who can explore Kanamaruza's audience hall, stage, and dressing rooms. Be sure to check out the basement to see the workings of the human powered rotating stage and trapdoors used by actors to dramatically enter and exit performances.
