Hiking the highest active vocano in south east Asia .
Another bucket list of mine !! Hiking the highest active volcano 🌋 in south east Asia , Mount Kerinci - 3805 m above sea level .
This is a very tough decision to hike this mountain, due to high attitude, very steep and muddy nature trails and especially very active Sumatra tigers at that national park !! But nothing cannot stop me and my three friends from doing this trip . Very challenging in yet very rewarding journey as well and I realised that nothing is impossible until you do it yourself.
Due to more people request in National Day weekend off , we decided to go ahead and work on National Day instead. Me and my three others friends ( all are women ) from the same department- so called hero angles 😜!!
I contacted one of my good friend feom Indonesia and ask him to arrange for our guide and porter for my hiking trip ( end up , he really take care so well to all of us and we became good friend and even planned for future trips 🤭) .
1. Transportation:
The nearest airport is Padang and we need to take transit at KL via Air Asia . From Padang airport - our guide fetch us and drove 71/2 hours to the base of Mount Kerinci - his home stay at Jambi( Kerinci view homestay )
2. Hiking :
Drive to the base of trail entrance and then start our hike
- we have one porter and one guide
- additional personal porter to carry our next day clothes sandals
- and four beautiful brave superhero’s
- parking lots to trails head 10mins
- trail head to pose one : 20mins
- pose one to pose two :30mins ( until here is pretty easy trials )
- pose two to pose three :40mins ( starting with tree brunches and more uphills )
- post three to shulter 1 : 75 mins ( more and more challenging) but this is our lunch break 😛
Shulter 1-2: 3 hours ( trails is more muddy and more challenging, kind of difficult ) need to use all monkey skills , jump here and there up and down
-shulter 2-3 : 1 hour ( the most difficult part of the trials , narrow steep slopes with difficult route and where all your energy are almost gone ( but the place where we need to camp for the night , surprisingly the sky full of stars 🤩)
- next morning : 4 am summit hike - three hours up and down , but very rewarding feeling and accomplishment.
3. Hiking attire :
- hiking shoe with at least mid cut is a must ( due to muddy trials and steep slopes )
- try to wear long pant and comfortable clothes with layers ( easy to remove and wear back )
- mosquito spray is a must ( not only for mosquito, but also for other insects )
- hiking pole is a must at least one , to support you as third leg .
- rain jacket or poncho is a must ( can rain very heavily any time ) we were soak though under the rain 😥
- for summit - bring warm enough clothes ( temperature can be less than 5 , and the wind can be very strong )
- importantly bring your very positive attitude to hike 🤭😜
