Nestled beside the tranquil Phewa Lake and shadowed by snow-capped peaks, this city felt like a dream painted in soft pastels. Our sightseeing began at Devi’s Fall, where the water thundered into a mysterious cave, known locally as Gupteshwor Mahadev—the next stop on our route. Inside, a sacred Shiva lingam sat quietly as the sound of rushing water echoed through the limestone walls. As the sun slowly rose behind the Annapurna range, its golden light spilled over the hills of Pokhara, gently illuminating one of the city's most awe-inspiring landmarks—the majestic Shiva Statue of Pumdikot. Standing at nearly 51 feet tall, with the base rising even higher, this enormous white Shiva idol is perched on a hilltop, gazing serenely across the Pokhara Valley. With a trident in hand and a snake coiled around his neck, Lord Shiva appears calm and powerful, as if silently guarding the mountains, lakes, and people below. By mid-morning, we arrived at World Peace Pagoda, a gleaming white structure sitting atop a ridge. From here, Pokhara unfolded beneath us—its rooftops scattered like confetti, the lake shimmering like glass, and the mighty Himalayas watching over it all. From there we travelled to a different earth called Bat Cave and Mahendra Cave. We descended to the wilderness of the underworld where bats and different creatures roam around. But the real thrill was yet to come. Next day, after a short drive to Sarangkot, the launch site for paragliding, my heart began to pound—not from fear, but from the electric buzz of anticipation. Strapped into a harness with a trained pilot behind me, we took a few quick steps... and then we were airborne. For a moment, silence. Then wind. And then—wonder. The world below grew small as we soared over fields, forests, and rooftops. The lake mirrored the sky, and the mountains stood tall and proud in the distance. Floating in the sky like a bird, Pokhara transformed from a beautiful city to a breathtaking painting. It was not just adrenaline—it was peace. When I finally arrived at Jhinu Danda, I was in for a treat. The natural hot springs there are famous for a reason. After all that hiking, relaxing in those hot springs with the Himalayas in the backdrop was pure bliss. I felt like I was in paradise. The village itself had a unique charm, with its traditional houses and the warm hospitality of the locals. It was a great opportunity to immerse myself in the local culture. The ABC (Annapurna Base Camp) trekking route goes from Jhinu to ABC and back. However, due to road construction, you need to walk an extra 1.4 km or so on the mountain road before reaching Jhinu, and the same applies to the return trip. 🏠 Major accommodation points along the way: Jhinu-Chhomrong-Sinuwa-Bamboo-Dovan-Himalaya-Deurali-MBC-ABC You can call to book beds and meals, or book when you arrive. If there are no beds available during the peak season, you may have to sleep in the restaurant. In addition to the 360º panoramic snow-capped mountains of ABC, I personally think that the section of road from Upper Sinuwa to Dovan is the most beautiful. The shade of the trees is lush and cool, and the alpine azaleas reflect the Fish Tail Peak, making it very comfortable to walk. 🍱 Dining: All guesthouse menus are almost the same. I personally think the following are more delicious: Chicken chili and special breakfast set at Sinuwa Lodge & Restaurant Pizza at Himalaya Guest House & Restaurant Egg veg sandwich with cheese at Deurali Guest House & Restaurant Grilled chicken at New Chhomrong Guest House & Restaurant I don’t like the others very much. If it doesn’t work, you can order Shin Ramyun, which is available in every restaurant. Drinks: Lemonade at Green View Lodge & Resaurant in Jhinu and organic black tea at New Chhomrong Guest House & Restaurant, and iced coffee at Cafe Himalaya. In addition, it is recommended to bring some jerky. There is no meat to eat from Banboo upwards. Only fried noodles, fried rice, and sandwiches will have some tuna. It is really uncomfortable not to be able to eat meat when climbing a mountain. Bottled water is not sold on the mountain. You have to pay for hot and cold water. In addition to a thermos, it is recommended to bring a large mineral water bottle.
