This temple was established in 1282 by Hojo Tokimune, where Mugaku Sogen was invited to spread Buddhism in Japan in 1279. This temple is also called the temple of Spirit which has survived many turmoils during the tumultous period. During autumn, all leaves transformed colours to red and orange the the view is so breathtaking with the blazing colours at the background. How I wish to visit there again during autumn to witness such a nice scenery.

One of the best temple to visit is Hasedera, located at Kamakura where the maple leaves are aplenty and the foliages is one of the best in Kamakura. This temple is one of the most important among the relics is that it enshrines one of the two Kannon statues carved out from a sacred tree. Everywhere turns bright red during the peak autumn foliage season, and you can't bear to forgo any places as they looked like a picture everywhere. How I wish to return here again during autumn.

Tokyo Suburban Tour – Kamakura and Enoshima Beach Trip

If you're not in a rush to travel or shop in Tokyo, you can choose to explore the suburbs around Tokyo. Actually, there are many beautiful places around Tokyo, such as Karuizawa, Kawagoe, or Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi, all of which are worth visiting. I can introduce them one by one in the future. This time, I will introduce one of my favorite places—Kamakura and Enoshima. I took the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Shibuya Station in Tokyo to Kamakura, and the travel time was only an hour and ten minutes. Upon arrival, I went to Komachi Street in Kamakura to stroll and eat. They have standing wagyu sushi, and because it's near the seaside, there are also many sashimi sushi shops and various desserts. There are also many unique shops here that are worth checking out. Next, we took the Enoden to Enoshima for a visit. On the Enoden train, besides experiencing the charm of the old train, you can also see beautiful sea views along the way. Although Enoshima is a small island, there are many places to visit on the island. We bought a ticket package for the escalator, lighthouse, garden, and cave, which cost only 1,100 yen. We took the escalator up and saw a temple along the way. There happened to be a festival rehearsal that day, which was very special. I didn't expect the lighthouse to be small, but you can see a wider sea view and seaside buildings from Enoshima. Finally, we walked down the stairs to the cave at the other end of Enoshima. Before entering the cave, you will find many people playing on the rocks by the shore, which is very relaxing. Inside the cave, everyone can take a candle for free to explore, giving a sense of adventure. Of course, in the hot summer, the cave is a great place to cool off, but you have to walk back and forth, climb to the top of the island, and then return, so it's best to find a restaurant to sit down, have a drink, and rest when you come back. This time, we didn't get off the Enoden midway to explore, so I hope to have the opportunity to go again.

Kamakura - Enoden One-Day Trip

Kamakura ~ Kamakurakōkō-Mae ~ On the first day, we took a one-hour JR train from Tokyo to Kamakura City in Kanagawa Prefecture early in the morning. The most famous attraction in Kamakura City is undoubtedly Kamakurakōkō-Mae, the filming location for the anime 'Slam Dunk.' However, the entire coastal Enoden line has many relaxing and comfortable spots. Our first stop was the popular Kamakurakōkō-Mae. The seaside crossing, combined with the passing Enoden train and the backdrop of the popular manga 'Slam Dunk,' makes this spot extremely popular. You've probably seen many reports of hundreds of tourists crowding this small intersection, making it quite dangerous. As the saying goes, 'The early bird catches the worm,' so we arrived before 9 AM to capture a clear shot of the crossing. Honestly, if you plan to arrive after 10 AM, you might as well save your time and skip it, as the sight of the crowd will hardly put you in a good mood. Wait a minute, isn't this supposed to be a relaxing trip? Arriving before 9 AM means we had to leave by 7 AM. So, do I really want to visit the 'Slam Dunk' scene that badly? Well, it's the first day, so we should be full of energy, right? ~ Shichirigahama Beach ~ Since we arrived in Kamakura so early, we couldn't waste this sunny morning. Our next stop was Inamuragasaki Station on the Enoden line, where we planned to walk along the beach. The first sight that greeted us was the clear view of Mount Fuji. With the sun rising from the east, we looked westward from Kamakura, and the sunlight cast a golden hue on Mount Fuji, making the scene incredibly stunning. If you're patient, you can wait for the Enoden train to pass by and capture a shot with both the train and Mount Fuji in the frame. We continued walking westward until we reached Shichirigahama Beach. In front of us was the majestic Mount Fuji, to the left was the sparkling Pacific Ocean, and to the right, the vintage Enoden train. Walking on the beach was absolutely delightful. ~ Enoden ~ After a busy morning of photo ops, we boarded the nostalgic and retro Enoden train, heading towards Enoshima. Besides offering views of Mount Fuji and the 'Slam Dunk' backdrop, most of the Enoden line runs along the coast, providing unbeatable views of the Pacific Ocean from the train, making it a truly refreshing experience. If you plan to use the Enoden multiple times, be sure to get a one-day pass! ~ Enoshima ~ After a busy morning, we needed to replenish our energy. A 10-minute walk from Enoshima Station brought us to Enoshima Benten Bridge. Crossing the bridge, we officially arrived at Enoshima. Known for its seafood, Enoshima is famous for its seafood bowls. If you buy snacks to eat on the street, be wary of seagulls swooping down to steal your food! ~ Komachi-dori Street ~ In the afternoon, we returned to Kamakura City to visit the famous Komachi-dori Street, an outdoor pedestrian shopping street filled with various shops. Due to Kamakura's popularity, the shopping street is bustling with tourists every day, offering a wide variety of snack shops and cafes, making it a delightful surprise. ~ Zeniarai Benten Shrine ~ Our last stop for the day was Zeniarai Benten Shrine, which I call the 'Money Washing Shrine.' Why do I call it that? Because it's a shrine for wealth, where you wash money in the shrine's water, and it's said that the more you wash, the more money you'll make that year. People were washing all kinds of bills in the shrine's water, making it a fun experience. If it really works, even better, as it means more money for travel next year! After visiting the shrine, our day's itinerary came to an end. Since we started early, we headed back to the hotel to rest and prepare for the next day's adventures.

Tsurugaoka hachimangu

Tsurugaoka Hachimangū is the most important Shinto shrine in the city of Kamakura. The shrine is a cultural center of the city of Kamakura and serves as the venue of many of its most important festivals with two museums. The Kamakura period marked the birth of samurai society. Kamakura was once the center of the country. At that time, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu was the spiritual center of the people as the home of Hachiman kami, guardian deity of Kamakura and the guardian deity of the samurai.

"The Goddess of the White Robe"

Kamakura has not just one, but two huge two Bhuddist statues. This white is the "Goddess of Mercy of the White Robe". It is so huge and white that you can see it when you're going to the direction of Kamakura and Fujisawa. You can get off the West exit at Ofuna Station. Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu is a breathtaking site to behold during Sakura blossom season. With over 1,000 sakura trees, the shrine is transformed into a sea of white flowers from late March to early April. The blooming sakura trees serve as a beautiful backdrop to the many traditional buildings and structures in the shrine complex, creating a stunning contrast between the natural beauty of the sakura and the historical architecture of the shrine. Visitors can enjoy strolling through the various paths and trails within the shrine complex, taking in the incredible sight of the flower petals fluttering down like snowflakes. slam dunk train coming

#tokyo Having watched the anime "Slam Dunk" when we were just children, we were thrilled to be able to witness the rail crossing at Kokomae Station used in the introduction before each episode. We were a bit surprised that this rail crossing was crowded when we reached. Didn't know that it was so popular and that many fans just wanted to experience this. but It was really surreal when we saw the train go by, with the alarm siren from the signal. The local train runs every 12 minutes along the coastline, which makes this the perfect spot for railway enthusiasts to train-watch.

Slam Dunk 2022

This year 2022 the first slam dunk movie just brought back all those memories. Kamakurakōkōmae Station is at the top of every Slam Dunk pilgrim’s list. It’s one of the first things you’d see in the opening theme of every episode, from the picturesque railroad crossing and the green Enoden train to the railway platform, all backdropped by the sea. Due to its charms, the station is recognized as one of the best stations in the Kanto region.

#celebratewithtrip A really good traditional style Okonomiyaki restaurant near the main sights in Asakusa. The ambience and the traditional Okonomiyaki that i eat here was so delicious and authentic. Has English menu and the staff is friendly. You can either cook it yourself or ask the staff for assistant. Overall, highly recommended and will go back! #tokyo #friendstrip
