Authentic Chinese village courtyard homestay.
Loess cave dwellings on the Yellow River in Northern Shaanxi! Authentic Chinese village courtyard homestay
Hidden in the countryside, this homestay is located in a rural village in Northern Shaanxi, on the banks of the Yellow River, in a thousand-year-old jujube forest.
Located in Nihegou, Jiaxian County, Yulin, Shaanxi, this simple Northern Shaanxi village is surrounded by mountains, with the Yellow River flowing in front of the door.
The village is full of fallen jujubes, and the air is filled with the fragrance of jujubes. The homestay is named after the fragrance of jujube flowers, which is truly well-deserved.
This is what the land of Northern Shaanxi used to look like, with no sense of commercialization.
In the countryside, there is smoke from cooking, jujube trees, and villagers living behind the houses.
Rows of stone cave dwellings are built along the loess plateau.
In the lowlands, you can experience the tranquility of rural life.
In the highlands, you can enjoy the vastness of the land.
In the large courtyard,
the courtyard walls and gates show the passage of time. The cave dwellings inside are warm in winter and cool in summer, and the modern design makes the vacation more comfortable.
Two-bedroom and three-bedroom accommodations are more suitable for warm group vacations. Each small courtyard has its own butler service.
The butlers are all simple and friendly women from the village. The stay includes afternoon tea, dinner, and breakfast the next day.
Here,
in the quiet and comfortable days of the ancient village, the quiet years flow by quietly.
It seems that the passage of time has become traceable, day after day, year after year.

Living in a Cave Dwelling B&B by the Yellow River: A Guide to Jia County, a Small Town in Northern Shaanxi
Mao Mao Dad's Version of Northern Shaanxi's Small Town - Yulin Jia County
Living in a Stunning Cave Dwelling B&B by the Yellow River
Three Days and Two Nights Guide
First Day
Departing from Xi'an, heading all the way north
We passed through Yan'an and entered Yulin
Driving onto the road along the Yellow River
The scenery before us began to become majestic and vast
As we approached Jia County,
On one side were steep cliffs, and on the other, the surging Yellow River,
Driving on the winding road ahead
The self-driving experience was truly amazing
In the afternoon,
We stopped by the vast and boundless Yellow River bank
Sitting by the riverbank, watching the sunset slowly sink below the horizon
It's hard not to feel a sense of loneliness
The ancient poets' 'Yellow River Sunset Round',
Probably describes this kind of mood
Tonight we stayed at a cave dwelling B&B - Hidden in the Countryside: Jujube Blossom Fragrance
The B&B is right by the Yellow River
Built in a small village in Northern Shaanxi full of jujube trees
Each cave dwelling has a unique design
They only made 7 small courtyards
Even the names are interesting, Jujube Nest / Sand Fruit / Against the Dam...
All are Northern Shaanxi dialects
I stayed in Courtyard No. 5,
It has a living room, dining room, and 2 spacious and bright large rooms
Can accommodate 4 adults + children,
Especially suitable for a family vacation
Each courtyard is equipped with a dedicated housekeeper aunt
Who cooks authentic Northern Shaanxi home-cooked dishes
The lamb stew with radish was incredibly delicious~
Second Day
Waking up in the morning
We can stroll around the small village
Walk the paths, wander the alleys
Go to the village coffee shop for a drink
Chat with the strolling Northern Shaanxi grandpas
Talk about the stories of the jujube orchards
Feeling completely relaxed,
It has a very slow-paced countryside life vibe
Then we headed to Jia County
This small county town by the Yellow River
Is actually built on the cliff top of a whole mountain
The entire county's east, south, and west sides are sheer cliffs,
Below is the turbulent Yellow River
Very spectacular
Jia County is a place with very dense attractions,
I recommend you visit Xianglu Temple and Baiyun Mountain
Xianglu Temple echoes with the Yellow River
Standing on a giant rock suspended on the mountain
It is a very thrilling temple
Extremely magnificent
The scenery at sunset is particularly beautiful,
You will definitely marvel here
At the wonders of nature creating such a spectacle
Baiyun Mountain has the largest ancient architectural complex of the Ming and Qing dynasties in the northwest
You can drive directly to the mountainside,
The temples on the mountain,
Feel the tranquility of burning incense and worshiping Buddha
Third Day
We went to the Yellow River Culture Museum
It just opened last year
This is a relatively niche but completely beyond expectations place
It is currently the first Yellow River culture-themed museum in the country
The Yellow River flows through Shaanxi
Entering Shaanxi from Qiangtou Village, Fugu County, Yulin City,
And among them, the length of the Yellow River within Jia County accounts for 10% of the Yellow River's Shaanxi section
The museum is particularly large
You can see inside
Yellow River elephants/dinosaur fossils from tens of millions of years ago
Pottery jars from thousands of years ago
As well as the hydrology, ecology protection, and folk customs along the Yellow River
And so on
Very detailed understanding of the culture and stories of the entire Yellow River basin
Highly recommend you to take a look
If you drive fast
You can complete this route in two days
But I still suggest you
Slow down
Really feel the magnificent scenery along the Yellow River in Northern Shaanxi Yulin

The only temple in the world built on a cliff by the Yellow River
🔶 Located at the 'S' shaped bend in the middle section of the Yellow River, separating two provinces—Shaanxi and Shanxi, coming from the Shanxi side, crossing the Jia County Yellow River Bridge into the territory of Jia County, Yulin, Shaanxi, you can see a temple rising into the sky, perched on the cliff—Xianglu Temple, which is also the first stop to check in this thousand-year-old mountain city.
🔶 Winding upwards, a 15-minute drive will take you to the entrance of Xianglu Temple, where you can look down along the stone road and see it, bordering the Yanhuang Highway, facing the Yellow River, and looking across to Shanxi. People living in Lin County on the opposite bank can walk over, often worship at this temple, and overlook the rolling Yellow River.
🔶 You can take a close look at the existing relics inside the temple: the Holy Mother Shrine, side halls, the mountain gate, stone stele pavilions, etc.
🔶 You can also view it from a distance, feel its coolness and absoluteness👍🏻 The section of the plank road in front of the opposite cliff is an excellent spot for viewing and photography, it is recommended to come in the afternoon, wait for a golden sunset, shining on the loess mountains and rivers, that is the spectacular scene of 'Xianglu Temple in the Evening Light'🔆🔆
📍 Address: Xianglu Peak, 200 meters east of Jia County, Shaanxi
👉🏻 Ticket price: 20 yuan
🔶 Construction period: the 42nd year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty
🔴 Type: Ming Dynasty building in the style of a courtyard house.
Northern Shaanxi also has a snowy wonderland - Mutouyu, this thousand-year-old town can't hide anymore!
There's no need to go to Harbin Ice and Snow World
Nor to Shirakawa-go in Japan
You can see the fairy-tale town of snow - Mutouyu Ancient Town
It is the real-life oil painting ancient town of the people of Northern Shaanxi🏞
·
20+ ice and snow activities
Let you fully enjoy the moments of ice and snow
My favorite is the ice slide🛝
You can race on the ice
Enjoy the thrill in the cold wind!!
Winter here is the best time to play with snow!
·
Covered by snow, the Snow Town❄ is silent
But the dreamy light show makes it feel warm
In the dazzling and colorful light atmosphere
The fiery light makes people naturally gather around the stove
Looking up at the starry sky🌌 Experience a unique joyous time~
·
At night in Mutouyu Ancient Town
Go eat the most authentic stewed mutton, Shaanbei big mixed dish, Hele noodles...
After eating, join the bonfire party
Sing and dance to spend a wonderful time~
·
At night, you can choose a homestay in the ancient town
Here, I highly recommend the secluded mountain homestay!!
Behind the homestay, there is a viewing platform to appreciate
The scenery of the Qinjin Grand Canyon and the Yellow River!⛰
·
It's not that Harbin is unaffordable, but Mutouyu is more cost-effective!
This winter, go to Mutouyu Ancient Town to experience the joy of the snowy world~❄
Shaanxi, how can you not promote this place! The neglected millennium grottoes
Shaanxi Province is vast, and what people often mention are mostly Guanzhong and southern Shaanxi.
But in northern Shaanxi, there are still many treasures worth paying attention to.
Last autumn, due to work, I accidentally discovered a thousand-year-old temple hidden in the gullies of Jia County, Yulin, Shaanxi—Buddha Hall Temple.
● The temple is built on the hillside of the loess plateau, with morning bells and evening drums, eaves and tiles, old and simple. The pines and cypresses are lush, quiet and peaceful.
● From the outside, it doesn't look very special, but inside there are 4️⃣ very hidden millennium grottoes (see picture 8️⃣).
● The first grotto, starting from the north, is the main grotto, containing seven exquisitely carved stone deities and one stele, with the main deity being Sakyamuni.
● The second grotto houses Ksitigarbha; this grotto is the largest, with a depth of 7 meters, a width of 6 meters, and a height of 4 meters.
● The third grotto houses Guanyin, and the fourth grotto houses the Three Skies Goddesses.
▶️ Written at the end
The temple was built during the Song Dynasty, and the most valuable part should be the grottoes. After a thousand years, the remaining colors on the Buddha statues and the naturally formed patterns on the stone walls, like the Milky Way and the universe, seem to tell the glory of that era.
Although the grottoes are exposed to the natural environment, making them feel like the most authentic existence, I also hope that these cultural heritages can be scientifically protected like the relics in museums.🙏🏻

【Folklore Location】
Zaohuaxiang Rural Resort Folklore, hidden between the Jin-Shaan Grand Canyon, the Yellow River is at the foot, here still retains the taste of the past, the cave dwellings are built along the loess slope, the thousand-year-old jujube forest, the simple villagers.
【Folklore Introduction】
There are seven courtyards here, and the courtyard doors of each courtyard have retained the look of the past, which is very historical and story-like. The name of each courtyard is the local dialect of northern Shaanxi. We can walk from the courtyard to the Yellow River.
Before I came here, I was very worried about the accommodation environment, but after I came here, I found that the interior of the room has been carefully designed, it can be said that it is warm in winter and cool in summer and the modern style of beautiful design, it seems that I can have a perfect holiday.
【Recommendations for playing around Zaohuaxiang】
Walk in the village for 10-30 minutes: Non-heritage thousand-year-old jujube forest, River God Temple, Silver Elephant Mountain Viewing Platform

40 minutes to 1 hour by car: Incense Burner Temple, Baiyun View, Yellow River Museum, Dongfanghong Cultural Industry Park, Chiniuwei Folk Culture Village, Traditional Village of Northern Shaanxi Mutouyu
During the National Day holiday, it's worth visiting the lesser-known treasure routes in Northern Shaanxi
The most comfortable holiday is to avoid the crowd, find a quiet homestay, observe the local customs, relax, let the body and mind return to nature, and enjoy the leisurely time.🍃
Not long ago, I drove to Jiayin, Yulin with my friends. It took about three hours to drive from the city. We stayed in the first cave-themed homestay - Zao Hua Xiang, located in the thousand-year-old jujube forest and the Jin-Shaan Grand Canyon, along the Yellow River sightseeing route.
🏠This homestay continues the traditional form of Northern Shaanxi cave, while solving the problems of poor lighting, leaking, and poor ventilation in the old cave. The new cave-themed homestay is bright and comfortable to live in, with green, jujube flower color, and rammed earth color as the overall display, making you feel relaxed.

Is a typical northern Shaanxi village,
Hidden between the Jinshaan Grand Canyon,
The Yellow River flows past the village.
🍃Here still retains the past appearance:
Large thousand-year-old date forests, simple villagers,
And many cave dwellings built along the loess high slope.

.
🏡Zaohuaxiang Homestay has a total of 7 cave-style courtyards,
The names all come from the northern Shaanxi dialect.
The courtyard walls and doors retain the past appearance,
With a sense of story.
The interior of the room is redesigned,
It retains the advantages of traditional cave dwellings that are warm in winter and cool in summer,
Also considered the aesthetic design of modern houses,
The combination of old and new is just right.

By the Yellow River | Picking red dates, living in cave dwellings, life in an ordinary world
| Picking red dates, living in cave dwellings, life in an ordinary world. ◇ After staying in so many different styles of homestays, this time, I moved into a cave dwelling.
-
◇ Heading north along the Yellow River Highway, passing through the thousand-year-old date forest, you will reach the destination of this trip - Zao Hua Xiang Homestay. The cave dwelling homestays stacked in the village look a bit messy at first glance, but when you walk into it, you can find its beauty: small courtyards dotted with flowers, tall cave arches, and comfortable indoor spaces. This is a warm and beautiful homestay carefully designed and renovated.
-
◇ The homestay is located in the date forest. Without leaving the small courtyard, you can pick the thousand-year-old red dates at the door and under the window. The dates are clear and sweet. On this trip, I ate several pounds of red dates; at the Buddha Temple behind the village, I saw the Buddha made in the Song Dynasty. The Buddha's drooping eyebrows and smile give people a sense of time travel; the Golden Lion Mountain viewing platform in front of the village is the best place to watch the sunrise of the Yellow River. The homestay can also provide you with a cliffside coffee experience here, drinking coffee while watching the magnificent scenery of the Yellow River rushing, it is the most unforgettable experience of this trip.
-
◇ Between the Yellow River and the date forest, it is an 'ordinary world', and it is also a clear and idyllic paradise.

The ancient city of Yulin Jiaxian, where the Yellow River flows
When mentioning Shaanxi, one would think of Chang'an, the Tang Dynasty, and the Terracotta Warriors... This time I came to Jiaxian, Yulin, Shaanxi, and I gained new knowledge. The thick loess land, the winding Yellow River, and the authentic Shaanxi northern folk customs... Like reading a book, I turned the pages from this ancient city of Jiaxian one by one. Jiaxian, also known as Jiastate in ancient times, was named after the reeds (reeds) that grew on both sides of the Yellow River that flowed through the county. Those who like ancient humanistic buildings may have heard of the strange sight of 'Incense Burner Temple', yes, it is in Jiaxian county. The modern one is the well-known song 'The East is Red', which was born here. Those who like self-driving tours may have heard of the 'Yellow River Sightseeing Route', known as the Chinese version of 'Highway One', with different sceneries for hundreds of miles, it is in Jiaxian. Those who understand geology and geography may know the 'Shanxi-Shaanxi Grand Canyon', the magnificent landform of northern Shaanxi washed out by the Yellow River, is also here. Those who understand folk songs must have heard the song 'The Yellow River has Ninety-nine Bends', yes, it is also sung from Jiaxian to all over the world. Of course, there is also the earliest discovered ancient jujube forest in the world, the niche and treasure-filled Buddha Hall Temple, ...... Now Jiaxian is known by more and more people. They come here to find the 'Ordinary World' under Lu Yao's pen, enjoy the lively umbrella head Yangko and waist drum, check in the art exhibition of the Renaissance in the countryside, stay in the cave dwelling homestay to experience the local life......
