#100WaysOfTravel
Another recommended hotel to stay in Malé while waiting for the seaplane arrangement to the private island. It is strategically located in the Hulhumale area which is only 10 min away from the Velana International Airport and free round trip airport transfer is offered by the hotel.
🏖️Ambiance/Facilities:
- the room is rather small but it is clean enough.
- some room type is facing the ocean view with balcony available.
- rooftop restaurant with sea view
- Artificial beach is right in front of the hotel and water-sports activities are avail.
👍🏻Service:
- All the staffs are friendly and willing to help.
- For the pick up service, they will also contact via whatsapps 1 day before to confirm and the POC is ready in the airport prior to us to make sure everything is in order.
💰Average Price per room: starting from RM 375 ++
🥰Overall Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Travelling to Maldives on budget 😍😍
#seascapes
Located strategically 10 min away from the Malé International Airport, Hulhumale is an artificial island created with white long beach and crystal water. If you have been dreaming for Maldives but concern about the high cost of travelling here, you may consider to stay in Hulhumale area instead of taking the seaplane or speedboat to other private islands.
Same as those resorts, there are beautiful beach and fantastic Indian Ocean View as well as a lot of watersports being offered here. During the sunset time, you can also go to the harbour or any western side in the island to experience the sky changing color and sun setting over the sea!!
A plus point, if you prefer a tranquil area over the bustling downtown, this is a perfect place for you as currently they are lesser tourists compared to the other side of Malé. Yet, it just takes around 15 min time by driving if you would like to have a short walk in the city centre. Coming back to Hulhumale, the sea is again right in front of you.
**** Most of the hotels here are offering FREE roundtrip airport transfer, do arrange it with them so that you can save more from using the AVAS ride.
Trip to Maldives 🇲🇻
Upon arrival at Malé International Airport, we went to our hotel via speedboat. We also explored around the resort’s facilities.
We then went for our most favorite place for Snorkeling Excursion. Most resorts offer guided snorkeling trips to nearby coral reefs. You may check with the hotel or resort in advance. For our case, we pay $50 per person. We also visited Malé. If you're staying near Malé, I would definitely recommend you to take a half-day trip to the capital. You can visit places like, Hukuru Miskiy (Old Friday Mosque), Sultan Park and Malé Fish Market.
We also spent lots of time to relax on the Beach, enjoying the pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Just to recommend some of my favorite restaurants 🏖️
One of my most favorite restaurant will be The Lighthouse Restaurant, Baros Maldives. They served very very fresh seafood. It offered a romantic dining with views over the lagoon We had very good experience and really enjoyed the food and view. Do try out their seafood chowder which I think it’s the best 🥰🥰🥰
💰 $150-250
I would also recommend you Reef Club, One&Only Reethi Rah. They served mainly Italian food. We tried the seafood and also Wood-fired pizzas which was recommended by the staff. It was really delicious, and the pizza was very crispy.
💰 $50-70 per person.
Aside from snorkeling, we also spent some time for Scuba Diving. The Maldives is famous for its world-class dive sites. You can also check out for
Banana Reef, Fish Head. I think the price is reasonable. All the staffs were really nice and professional.
💰 They charge about $100-150 per dive (including gear)
We also explored activities like Jet Skiing, Parasailing 🪂 Kayaking.
💰Normally it costs around $50-100 per activity.
After all the hectic activities, we also spent time to explore the Sunset Dolphin Cruise🚢 A relaxing way to end our trip.
Overall, the trip was very relaxing. We really enjoy it and hope to come back again soon.
Last but not least, if you’re a big fan of Yoga like me, definitely try out their Sunrise Yoga. Where you get to experience yoga session on the beach.
💰$20-50

Maldives Budget Travel Guide
1. Budget and Expenses
The budget for this trip to the Maldives is CNY 15,600 for two people. The details are as follows:
1. Airfare: Purchase three weeks in advance to get a lower price, about CNY 2,000–2,100 per person, only available on AirAsia and without checked baggage service. You need to bring your own diving equipment and a small amount of carry-on luggage.
2. Transit Hotel: It is recommended to choose a hotel in Hulhumale, which is close to the sea and you can go to the beach at night. Stay at The Whiteharp, which offers airport pick-up and drop-off services, but the soundproofing is slightly poor, the air conditioning is sufficient, and the breakfast is well-reviewed.
3. Resort Hotel: The budget is CNY 5,000 per person, including accommodation and some meals.
2. Itinerary
1. After arriving in the Maldives, check in to the transit hotel first. The Whiteharp Hotel provides airport pick-up and drop-off services, which is very convenient.
2. Early the next morning, the transit hotel will wake you up and take you to the airport speedboat terminal. Take a speedboat from the terminal to Thulhagiri Island.
3. The accommodation environment on Thulhagiri Island is super cost-effective! The room is clean and hygienic, with large windows and a spacious deck, and you can go directly to the sea. Room 237 is recommended, although it is a little far from the restaurant, the location is excellent.
4. Enjoy the HB package on the island, including breakfast and dinner, but excluding alcoholic beverages. There is a wide variety of food such as chicken, duck, beef, and lamb, and the desserts are especially delicious. Please note that you can only get two bottles of free drinking water per day, so it is recommended to buy large bottles of water in Male and bring them to the island.
5. The island has a beautiful environment, clear water, fine sand, and coconut trees. You can see sharks, manta rays, and other marine life under the water house. When snorkeling to the side of the sea trench, you can see many corals and schools of fish, as well as sea turtles.
3. Consumption on the Island
The consumption level on the Maldives islands is relatively high, but there are also good and cheap products. For example, drinking water is CNY 2, Coke is CNY 4, refrigerator magnets are CNY 8, and shark wood carvings are CNY 17. Although the price is not high, it is recommended to save money and consume reasonably.
4. Summary
The sea view of the Maldives is overwhelmingly better than other islands! If you have been to Saipan, Bali, Semporna, Egypt, and the Mediterranean, you will still be shocked by the sea view of the Maldives. I hope this guide can help you enjoy your trip to the Maldives better!
Maldives Heaven in earth . Its like the most beautiful place to visit for me.

When traveling to the Maldives, many people will arrive on flights arriving at night, but if you don't want to go straight to the resort and don't want to waste money, the best option is to stay a night in Male Island or Hulhumale... In that case, I highly recommend Lonuveli. The rooms are a little old, but they are cleanly maintained and the bathrooms have been remodeled. There are no bugs in the rooms, they are clean, and the staff is friendly. Breakfast is free, and the French toast with lots of butter is really delicious. Highly recommended!!!

Half-day guide to a city walk in Malé, the capital of the Maldives.
Malé, the capital of the Maldives, is a compact and vibrant city. We spent half a day here before going to Kani Island. The sea here is also very beautiful! When you leave the airport, you will really feel that the ceiling of the glass sea is here! To be honest, you can stroll around slowly and finish it in one day~
Recommended attractions🚗:
Sultan Park: This is a quiet oasis in Malé, with the National Museum in the park. Here you can learn about the history and culture of the Maldives. After the visit, you can stroll in the park and enjoy a moment of tranquility.
- Friday Mosque, Hukuru Miskiy: This centuries-old coral stone mosque is one of the most famous landmarks in Malé. Remember to wear long pants and long-sleeved tops. Female tourists also need to wear a headscarf to visit.
- Fish Market: Located on the waterfront road, this is a good place to experience local life. In the afternoon, the fishermen will return with the day's catch, and the market is full of fresh seafood. Even if you don't buy it, you can watch the lively trading scene.
Recommended food👍🏻:
Try authentic Maldivian dishes. It is recommended to taste mas huni (tuna salad), garudhiya (fish soup) or various seafood barbecues. Malé has many good restaurants that offer these dishes.
Tips💡
- Don't miss buying some handicrafts when shopping in Malé, such as woven baskets, shell jewelry, etc. as souvenirs.
- Although English is widely used locally, learning a few simple Dhivehi greetings can help you communicate better with locals.
- Pay attention to respect local customs and habits, especially near religious places.

Maldives Transit Hotel Recommendation, Great Experience!
Maldives Transit Hotel Recommendation, Great Experience!
Hotel Name: Ocean Grand (Hulhumale Ocean Grand Hotel)
Because the arrival time in Male was too late to catch the flight to the island on the same day, I checked the guides in advance and saw that everyone online said that the hotels in Male are expensive and not good. I was very afraid of stepping on a mine, so after many comparisons, I booked this hotel.
Hotel Environment:
If you want to stay clean in Male, there are basically no hotels under 600 to choose from. Even a hotel that costs more than a thousand a night is at the level of a three-star hotel in China. I sincerely suggest that everyone should not be greedy for cheapness. Choose a hotel where you can rest well, so you will have the energy to play on the island the next day. This hotel has a very strong lemongrass smell when you enter. The hotel as a whole is just one building with a total of 7 floors (like a self-built house in China). The rooms are not big but clean and tidy.
Breakfast:
Basically, all online bookings include breakfast packages. The 7th floor is the breakfast room, with bread and vegetables, all in a buffet style (the variety and quantity are similar to Atour). It should be noted that drinks and egg preparations are specially asked by the waiter and made for you on the spot.
Airport Transfer:
From the airport pick-up in Male to the hotel, and the next day's transfer to the domestic flight are all included. You can write an email to the hotel in advance to confirm your flight number and the name of the hotel you are going to. The staff will hold a sign to pick you up at the airport (if you can't find them, you can go to the information desk to call, try not to pay attention to strangers who take the initiative to talk to you). The transfer for the next day will also be confirmed with you when you check in. Overall, the experience is very worry-free.
Service Attitude:
The service attitude of the staff is very good. They help with luggage during pick-up and drop-off, provide welcome drinks and towels to wipe your hands. Check-in is also one-on-one service. The hotel staff greet you when they see you, and they respond to emails quickly. Their English has a bit of an accent, but basic communication is not a problem.
The world's smallest capital—Malé
Recommended attractions on Malé Island (walking tour): Personally, I suggest not staying overnight. Really, you don't need to. You're in the Maldives... you should definitely stay on an island, no, all of them are islands 🏝️, you should definitely stay on a resort island! Unless your flight arrives late and there's no transfer. The expenses on the island are very high, and if they see you're Chinese, the menu prices might be even higher.
King Salman Mosque: Islam is the state religion of the Maldives. To understand the religious culture, you might want to check out this largest mosque in the country 🕌. The architecture is very avant-garde and modern! Don't be confused, it is the largest in the Maldives, it's that simple.
Islamic Centre: The Islamic Centre is named after the country's great hero and holds significant commemorative value for the locals. The grand golden dome of the mosque, exquisite wood carvings, and Arabic calligraphy wall decorations are all worth seeing.
Sultan Park: Built on the southern side of the old site of the Maldivian palace from the 16th century, part of the Sultan's palace still stands in the park, just this piece of land!
Old Mosque: Built in 1658, it is currently the oldest building in Malé. It is not only a spiritual pillar of faith for the locals but also a masterpiece of Maldivian craftsmen who used local materials—the mosque includes roofs, ceilings, and other structures made from coral blocks, coral pillars, coral carvings, traditional Maldivian wood carvings, and lacquerware.
National Museum: The National Museum houses many historical artifacts, from the Stone Age to the Buddhist era to the Islamic monarch period, including fragments of royal artifacts. You can even find porcelain sent by Zheng He during his voyages to the West.
Fish Market: The fish market is a very down-to-earth attraction 🎣. Nearby fishermen bring their daily catch here to sell. If you want to understand local life or buy fresh seafood, don't miss it 🦑.
Mulee Aage: Originally built as a palace by the last Sultan, it was transformed into the presidential office and residence after the republic was established. Although general tourists are not allowed inside, you can take photos at the entrance.
If you take a boat, you can store your luggage at the official luggage storage at the airport for $7 per item. After storing your luggage, go straight out to the left, cross the road, and on the left side, there's a small house where you can buy boat tickets for $1 per person. When returning, you can buy tickets from the same place where you got off the boat.
Walk towards the fish market after getting off the boat, passing by the Presidential Palace and Independence Square, which is filled with pigeons. Then you'll see a green house, which is their fruit and vegetable market. Pass through it, and on the left is the fish market. If you walk to the right towards the sea, you can see a large group of stingrays. It's said that seeing a devil ray brings good luck!
You can then take a loop walk, which takes 15-20 minutes, passing by the white mosque, the monument, Sultan Park, the blue-domed mosque, and next to it is the artificial beach. From there, you can see the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge in the distance. My panoramic photo is a bit distorted, haha.
After that, you can return to the pier and take a boat back to the airport. The whole trip takes just two hours! You can tour the entire administrative capital of the Maldives.

We booked this place as one of our transit hotels after our private island resort and before we head back to Malaysia.
This place is not far away from Male airport, it is only about 10-15mins drive away. Also, the hotel staff are all very friendly to serve and explain the hotel rooms during the check-in process.
Strongly recommend to stay here!
Male.
Male is the capital of the Maldives and the smallest capital in the world. It is the economic, political, and cultural center of the Maldives. It is also a transit point for tourists to the Maldives. If the flight arrives on the same day and cannot reach the island, you will need to spend one night in Male.
As the capital of the Maldives, Male is small but has a rich culture and historical sites. Only by visiting Male can you truly experience the lives of the people of the Maldives, which is one of the meanings and rewards of travel. You can fully experience the history and culture of the Maldives in just half a day.
Male Cuisine: The Maldives is a Muslim country and prohibits the consumption of pork. However, as an island country, it produces a lot of fish, shrimp, and crab. Western restaurants and Indian restaurants are the main types of restaurants.
Shopping: Male is the shopping center of the Maldives, where almost all shops are gathered. Worth buying souvenirs include various shell-made shell carvings, opal jewelry, and Sri Lankan black tea in various flavors.
Activities: Although Male is a small city, it has a unique charm. Whether you are shopping and enjoying the scenery, or communicating with local residents on the beach, you can feel the unique charm of this tropical island country. Many black tour guides charge US$20 for a guided tour. If you don't need it, you can visit it yourself. If you can't find your way, you can't go wrong by walking along the beach. Most religious, life, and political attractions are concentrated in the northern coastal area. The straight-line distance from east to west is about 2 kilometers, which can be covered on foot.
📍Address: Male is located on Male Island in the central Maldivian archipelago.
🚗Transportation: The streets are narrow, with people and cars mixed together. Speedboats are a common means of transportation in Male. You can also take a taxi and walk.
👍️Must-visit attractions: Old Friday Mosque, Sultan Park, National Art Gallery, Presidential Palace, National Museum of Male, etc.
🎟️Tickets: National Museum of Male tickets 155 Rufiyaa, Sultan Park free
💗Other tips: The best sightseeing route is to take the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge - Vegetable Market - Fish Market - Sea Ray Viewing - Friday Mosque - Sultan Park - Independence Square.

Hulhumale, Maldives
Very close to Male, the capital of the Maldives, Hulhumale did not even exist until a little over 20 years ago when the island was created by pumping sand up from the seabed.
However, another key point to this man-made land mass – dubbed the ‘City of Hope’ – was to offer greater protection from rising sea levels. With the low-lying Maldives notoriously vulnerable to the impact climate change is having on the oceans, Hulhumale has been created at two-metres above sea level – twice the average for the country’s other islands.
