A hot spring near Guangzhou that you'll want to visit again and again
Hezhou Xixi Forest Hot Spring is a great place that every Guangdong housewife recommends. The only downside is that it's a bit far away (4 hours by car).
👉 First of all, the spring water is real hot spring water, not boiler water.
The hot spring is divided into three main areas, located on a mountain. There are many different types of hot springs, and you won't be able to try them all in two days. Each hot spring has a different view.
👉 Each hot spring is very clean, because there are staff who come to clean and change the water regularly. If you think the spring water is not hot enough, you can ask the staff to open the valve and add hot water (the housewives say that because it's a real hot spring, they can afford to offer unlimited refills to guests).
👉 Clean + authentic, these two points alone beat many hot spring hotels in the province.
👉 My favorite is the mountain top area. Other hotels have infinity pools at most, but here there is an infinity hot spring pool! You can take great photos even in winter.
👉 There are also all-day self-service fruit, snacks, and tea on the mountain top. Even though it's free, the quality is very good.
I think everything else is great. I've been there twice at my own expense. If I say too much, people will think I'm a promoter. If you have any questions, you can ask in the comments section, and I'll answer what I know.
🙋♀️ Ps: The latest news is that the Hezhou-Guangdong Expressway will open on January 1, and it will only take 3 hours to get there from Guangzhou. Our family is planning to go there again during the Spring Festival.
Ancestral Hall Guide.
We were lucky to visit the former residence of Zhang Tingfu, a close advisor to Sun Yat-sen. On the way there, we met the village secretary, who was very enthusiastic and showed us the way. He even let us into the Zhang Ancestral Hall. My friend had been here several times but had never been able to enter the ancestral hall. We were lucky to enter the ancestral hall this time. The Zhang family was a prominent family in the local area during the reign of Emperor Guangxu in the late Qing Dynasty. The old lady of the family was even granted the title of Madam by Empress Dowager Cixi. The family was one of the most prominent families at that time. The next day, we went to Hexian County to see the largest Confucian Temple in Asia and the Luo Ancestral Hall. The ancestral hall culture in Hezhou is really strong. There is a large open space in front of the entrance, and the scenery is beautiful. Compared with many places, the cultural heritage is very strong. We also went to see Guihua Well, one of the eight scenic spots in Hezhou. Huangyao Ancient Town is just a cultural epitome. If you come to Hezhou in summer, you must try the famous Mafeng jelly. It melts in your mouth and is cool and delicious. It is simply amazing. It is also very pleasant to go to Ailian Lake for a walk in the evening.

✔ Great location and convenient transportation, just a few minutes' walk from the subway station. The hotel is well-equipped, the rooms are clean and tidy, and the stay is very comfortable. The front desk staff are very good, proactive, and enthusiastic. The breakfast is good, with a variety of options, and I personally think it is very cost-effective.
✔ The price is not expensive in the city, and the accommodation environment and hygiene are much better than other budget hotels at the same price. The service attitude is standardized and worth recommending. Although the renovation time is relatively long, there is no odor, which is a good point. There are also party members at the front desk, which is unexpected.
✔ Very cost-effective three-star hotel, the room is very clean, and the service at the front desk is enthusiastic. The attitude is very friendly, and the service is also very good. I will choose here again next time.

Liushi Ancestral Hall in Zhidong Village, Hezhou, Guangxi.
Liushi Ancestral Hall in Zhidong was first built in the first year of the Wanli period of the Ming dynasty (1573). It was destroyed by fire during the Shunzhi period of the Qing dynasty. In the 15th year of the Qianlong period, Liu Wenbiao, a clansman, made a fortune and rebuilt it on the original site, with the original layout and orientation unchanged, covering an area of about 1,054 square meters. Its architectural layout is a typical Lingnan-style "three rooms and two corridors" and is symmetrical along the central axis. Entering the ancestral hall from the main gate, passing through the middle patio, you will reach the ancestral hall where the ancestors are worshiped. The ancestral tablets are displayed for the descendants to hold grand sacrificial activities during important solar terms and weddings and funerals to show the ancestors' noble status. The Liu Ancestral Hall also shows obvious Lingnan architectural features in terms of building materials. The upper and lower halls have gable roofs and wok ear gables, and the main hall has arches. The ancestral hall uses red sandstone pillars, which bear the weight of the roof and represent the auspicious meaning of "great fortune and luck," which is one of the important symbols of Lingnan ancestral halls. The wood carvings and paintings in the ancestral hall are exquisite. It is a key cultural relic in Hezhou.
Gongcheng Hongyan Village Persimmon Festival
I've lived for decades, and today is the first time I've seen persimmons covering the mountains and fields. There are crisp orange-yellow persimmons and bright red soft persimmons. The village roads are full of stalls selling persimmon cakes, dried persimmons, and fresh crisp persimmons, all available for tasting. There are also various agricultural products produced by the villagers themselves. We housewives love this kind of atmosphere. I took the high-speed train from Hezhou to Gongcheng Station. At the exit, there were many drivers soliciting passengers. It costs fifteen yuan per person for a shared ride to Hongyan Village, which is very convenient.
Luo Ancestral Hall in Linhe Ancient City, Hezhou, Guangxi.
Luo Ancestral Hall was built in the 17th year of the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty (1891), covering an area of about 2,300 square meters, with a building area of about 1,300 square meters. The plaque above the entrance is engraved with the words "Luo Ancestral Hall" on a bluestone slab, and the couplet on both sides is written in black regular script with relief carvings: "The surname comes from the Luo Kingdom, and the county is Yuzhang." These eight words accurately summarize the origin of the Luo surname, the hall name, and the county name. The most distinctive architectural feature is the gable of the ancestral hall, which resembles a wok ear. This type of Lingnan architecture is also known as a "wok ear house." The wok ear symbolizes the two ears of an official hat, meaning "to stand out from the crowd." Only families with official titles could use this architectural style, which was a symbol of the noble status of the Luo family at that time. The ancestral hall is made of blue bricks and tiles. Upon entering the main gate, there is a reception hall, where a special structure called the "Zhuangyuan Gate" is set up. The Zhuangyuan Gate is a unique structure not found in many ancestral halls. Behind the Zhuangyuan Gate is a courtyard, and beyond the courtyard is the council hall, where the Luo family held meetings and followed family rules. It was also the highest authority of the Luo family. On both sides of the council hall are side rooms, and further inside is a second courtyard. The rooms on both sides are called "loyalty and righteousness rooms." It is said that in feudal society, there was a clear hierarchy, with civil officials being more important than military officials. Therefore, the civil room was on the left, called the "loyalty hall," and the military room was on the right, called the "righteousness hall." Now, it has been changed to the "loyalty and filial piety hall," which has more contemporary significance. Further inside is the sacrificial hall, where 273 ancestral tablets of the Luo family are placed. The ancestral tablets are made of camphor wood and engraved with the names of the Luo ancestors. A large incense burner is placed on the sacrificial altar, and the incense burns all year round, turning the ancestral tablets a golden yellow, adding to the solemnity and majesty. Inside and outside the ancestral hall, there are many traditional landscape murals, with profound meanings and exquisite craftsmanship. Visitors cannot help but stop and admire them, praising them endlessly! Luo Ancestral Hall in Linhe Ancient City is ancient and solemn. Walking into the ancestral hall, people cannot help but marvel at its architectural beauty and experience the majesty of the Luo family shrine. Ancestral halls are a medium for spreading cultural awareness of surname blood relations, a witness to the rise and fall of families, and are regarded as sacred places by surnames. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.
Hakka Walled House in Renchong Village, Hezhou, Guangxi.
Built in 1881, the 11th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, the Hakka Walled House in Hezhou was completed in 8 years by Jiang Haiqing, a Yunnan Province inspector. The south part has 3 horizontal and 6 vertical rows, 8 halls, 18 patios, and 94 wing rooms; the north part has 4 horizontal and 6 vertical rows, 9 halls, 18 patios, and 132 wing rooms. The whole walled house is a square symmetrical structure, with a 3-meter-high wall separating it from the outside world. The houses, halls, and rooms are arranged in a reasonable layout, forming a whole. The halls are connected to the corridors, and the corridors are connected to the rooms. The layout is staggered, with the upper and lower floors connected. The eaves, corridors, screens, beams, and columns are carved with dragons and painted with phoenixes, making the house magnificent. It is a typical crystallization of Hakka architectural culture and art, known as the "Forbidden City" in Jiangnan. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

The height from the ground to the top of the ridge is 9.28 meters, the height from the ground to the stage floor is 2.01 meters, and there are three board doors on the back eaves wall. The main structure of the stage is a beam structure, with a hipped roof, green glazed tile roof, and a pair of fish on the ridge. As part of the Hunan Guild Hall, Huangtian Stage is used for important ceremonies and festivals, not only to worship gods and pray for blessings but also to connect with fellow villagers. In the long history, the people of Hunan brought the custom of worshiping Dayu to this place, which has lasted for hundreds of years. Nowadays, during the Zhuang "Flower Festival" on the second day of the second lunar month, the local "Food Festival" and "Dayu's Birthday" and other festivals, the guild hall will welcome Hunan people who have migrated to Hezhou, where they hold theatrical performances, dragon and lion dances, and worship Dayu. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Hezhou City.

Longjing Ancient Village, Hezhou, Guangxi
Longjing Village was first settled by the Hu family, followed by the Zhu, Mo, Huang, and Zhang families. According to the Huang family genealogy, the ancient dwellings of Longjing Village were first built during the Wanli period of the Ming dynasty, about 400 years ago. Although the Zhang family was the last to settle in Longjing Village, they had a feng shui master who saw a dragon vein in the village and bought the land from the Hu family to build a house. Since then, the Zhang family has prospered and become the largest family in Longjing Village.
Today, Longjing Village still retains a large number of ancient dwellings from the Tongzhi to Guangxu periods of the Qing dynasty, including the former residence of Zhang Tingfu, an advisor to three presidents of the Republic of China. The village has a 400-year-old archway-style gatehouse, inscribed with "Xusheng Building," which was the entrance to the village in ancient times. Walking on the cobblestone village road, worn uneven by hundreds of years of history, you feel like you are walking into a maze, stepping into an ancient "bewildering array," losing your sense of direction. These winding alleys were used to resist foreign invaders in ancient times, with a distinct military flavor. In the courtyards of some ancient dignitaries, there was a "horse-riding path" for their exclusive use, where you can still seem to hear the sound of horse hooves. On both sides of the main road, there are gatehouses inscribed with "Zhenlong Alley" and "Gongbei Alley," and it is said that the two cobblestone alleys connected to the gatehouses were exclusively for men and women. The ancient dwellings of Longjing are scattered along the winding alleys, with two-entry structures and side rooms, and a courtyard paved with bluestone bricks in the middle for drainage and lighting. Due to the long history and well-preserved ancient dwellings of Longjing Village, many tourists come to visit, and several TV dramas have been filmed here.
