2024 Hamburg Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Germany's second-largest city and biggest port is not shy wallflower: it has long taken pride in its history of trade with the world (and the wealth that has created) since joining medieval trading association the Hanseatic League in the Middle Ages. But despite its role as a wealthy economic stronghold, Hamburg isn't a boring, sterile business port: it's lively Reeperbahn red light district is one of the world’s most popular, filled with provocative bars, shops, and prostitutes, yet very safe for the tourist practicing common sense. Its maritime spirit shines through everywhere you look: from fantastic seafood to waterfront parks, port cruise tours to the shipping warehouse complex of Speicherstadt. It's here that you can also explore a miniature model town at Miniatur Wunderland. True to German culture, Hamburg loves its open-air markets: Rathausmarkt takes place in the central square and offers visitors a taste of authentic German food (though the American hamburger had its origins here, true Hamburger cuisine tends more to pan-fried fish and the regional pastry FranzbröThen.) The city has a long love affair with music as well, being the birthplace of Johannes Brahms and an primary incubator of the Beatles. For all its charms, Hamburg has maintained a relatively low profile on the world tourist map. Yet has plenty to dig into from historic buildings to modern theater.

Trip to Hamburg 🇩🇪
It was a short weekend trip to Hamburg, Germany 🇩🇪
We started our trip by visiting Rathaus (Hamburg City Hall). It was built between 1886 and 1897, this Neo-Renaissance building serves as the seat of the government of Hamburg. It stands on over 4,000 oak piles. We joined a guided tour to explore the grand halls and learnt about Hamburg's political history.
📍Rathausmarkt 1, 20095 Hamburg, Germany.
💰Around €5 for guided tours.
We also strolled around St. Michael's Church (Michel). A symbol of Hamburg, this Baroque church was originally built in the 17th century. It has been rebuilt several times due to fires and wars. We climbed to the tower for stunning views over the city and the harbor.
📍Englische Planke 1, 20459 Hamburg, Germany.
💰€5 for the tower
I would also suggest you to check out a restaurant, Brücke 10. We tried out the famous Fischbrötchen (fish sandwich with pickles, onions, and remoulade), shrimp rolls, and crab salad 🥗
📍St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 10, 20359 Hamburg, Germany.
💰 €5-€15 per sandwich.
Besides, we also visited Miniatur Wunderland. It is the largest model railway in the world, showcasing incredibly detailed miniature landscapes, including cities, countryside, and famous landmarks. Definitely worth your visit 💯
📍Kehrwieder 2-4/Block D, 20457 Hamburg, Germany.
💰€20.50 for adults.
We also explored Speicherstadt (Warehouse District). A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is the largest warehouse district in the world, built between 1883 and 1927. It's known for its red-brick buildings and neo-gothic architecture. We spent some time to walk around and explored the unique architecture.
📍 Speicherstadt, 20457 Hamburg, Germany.
Last but not least, if you at looking for a place for dinner, you can try out Das Dorf. They served mainly German Traditional Cuisine. We ordered Labskaus** (a traditional sailor's dish with corned beef, potatoes, onions, beetroot, and a fried egg), Matjesfilet (marinated herring), and Grünkohl mit Pinkel** (kale with smoked sausage) which were all very delicious.
📍Glashüttenstraße 20, 20357 Hamburg, Germany.

Should you be someone who travels and love to cook or miss home cooked home when you are at Hamburg, then can consider booking a hotel at Aparthotel Adaigo Access Hamburg.
It has good kitchen and cooking facilities as well as a well stocked board games areas. Worked well for me to keep kids entertained when it rained outside.

Go to Germany and visit the top 5 places worth visiting.
1.) Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Picture 123
With centuries of history, Cologne is one of the best cities in Germany to explore. Located on the western edge of the country, this city blends everything together and is perfect for a weekend getaway. For me, the most impressive landmark must be Cologne Cathedral. Located on the banks of the Rhine River, it overlooks Cologne and is well worth a visit. Not only that, but there is also a lot of history within its walls. The Gothic architecture of the cathedral is the most ambitious building project since the Middle Ages.
2.) Rottenburg, Plot 456
One of the most vibrant and colorful places in Germany is Rothenburg. Well, at least in my opinion!
Rothenburg is located on the edge of the state of Bavaria in northern Germany, and is one of the best tourist destinations in Germany. For many years, it has been included in the route of the Romantic Road.
3.) Burger Figure 7
One of the treasures of the Elbe River is the city of Hamburg. Trust me, Hamburg has too many epic sights!
Although it may not have the "advantages" of Berlin, as one of the best destinations for city travel in Germany, it has a strong influence.
4.) Dresden Figure 8
Dresden is located in the Saxony region of Germany and is a city about the size of Edinburgh in the UK. This makes it big enough to be vibrant and full of things to do, but also small enough to explore over a long weekend.
Dresden was once known as the "Jewel Box", housing several luxurious buildings and artworks.
5.) Munich Figure 9
Munich is known as the capital of Bavaria and is undoubtedly a very beautiful city, as well as one of the most worthwhile places to visit in Germany. Not only that, Munich can be the gateway to the wider Bavarian region, and can also easily become the starting or ending point of your travels.
St. Catherine's Church
One of the landmarks and best bird's-eye view points of Hamburg. Take the elevator up the tower, which is 105.8 meters high. From the top, you can overlook the entire city of Hamburg, and the scenery of the port city is particularly special.
Hamburg is such an attractive city!
Came to Hamburg on a clear day in January and I was truly amazed by the beauty of this city. Its modernity respects its history, which reflects how people here respect their heritage.
Walking within the town center is manageable, and you'lll get some surprises along the way. There were some stores on wheels, selling hot sandwiches and sausages, plus in my last picture was a fruit stand that sold produce that's much cheaper than supermarkets. But there's so much attractions that a day isn't enough to visit the attractions in the town center.
Getting There - metro trains from the airport run until late in the evening, and cost around EUR 1.90. If you arrive late, give yourself at least a 30 min buffer time to pick up your luggage and then swoosh towards the metro line (which takes you around 30 min to downtown)
Attractions - the Hamburg Rathaus (Town Hall) is definitely a must. For kids, bring them to Miniatur Wunderland.
Hotels - I booked a solo room at a&o Hostel Hamburg Hauptbanhog downtown that's 10 min by walk from the train/bus station. It's a nice and cheap place to stay in.
Food & Restaurants - check around the streets to see the mobile food carts!

With sunny day, definitely you can spend enjoyable memory and time here!

The trio to Hamburg from Bonn in a nutshell was marvelous. it featured the celebration of summer party of Leibniz institute at the Zoological museum of Hamburg. The summer party included the lecture series from different delegates across all over the world. plethora of researchers from Professor to techinal staff of the museum showed up. The party included good, culinary food and drinks within the museum featuring animals. It was an absolute natural vibe to share an experience with animals and talk about them. later we visited the famous bar and restaurant city of Hamburg.
In short, It was worth visiting recent trip of mine.

Picturesque Hamburg
Hamburg is a port city in Germany that has a nice industrial feel. The city center is especially iconic with a lot of brown brick buildings lining the surrounding canals.
Many of these buildings are still warehouses, but there are other uses as well, ranging from museums to warehouses. I think it's worth spending a morning or afternoon strolling along these canals and finding your perfect Instagram shot with these rustic buildings serving as the background.
Hamburg is also a very bike friendly city and you can bike along these canals as well as the city through the bike paths.
I think Hamburg is worth a visit; its main attractions are really concentrated along the canals and rivers. They are a lovely place to stroll around and various restaurants and dining options line them.
#mynovgetaway Hamburg, a major port city in northern Germany, is connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River. It's crossed by hundreds of canals, and also contains large areas of parkland. Near its core, Inner Alster lake is dotted with boats and surrounded by cafes. The city's central Jungfernstieg boulevard connects the Neustadt (new town) with the Altstadt (old town), home to landmarks like 18th-century St. Michael’s Church.
One of Germany's 16 federal states, it is surrounded by Schleswig-Holstein to the north and Lower Saxony to the south. The city's metropolitan region is home to more than five million people. Hamburg lies on the River Elbe and two of its tributaries, the River Alster and the River Bille.
The official name reflects Hamburg's history as a member of the medieval Hanseatic League and a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire. Before the 1871 Unification of Germany, it was a fully sovereign city state, and before 1919 formed a civic republic headed constitutionally by a class of hereditary grand burghers or Hanseaten. Beset by disasters such as the Great Fire of Hamburg, North Sea flood of 1962 and military conflicts including World War II bombing raids, the city has managed to recover and emerge wealthier after each catastrophe.
Hamburg is Europe's third-largest port. Major regional broadcaster NDR, the printing and publishing firm Gruner + Jahr and the newspapers Der Spiegel and Die Zeit are based in the city. Hamburg is the seat of Germany's oldest stock exchange and the world's oldest merchant bank, Berenberg Bank. Media, commercial, logistical, and industrial firms with significant locations in the city include multinationals Airbus, Blohm + Voss, Aurubis, Beiersdorf, and Unilever. Hamburg is also a major European science, research, and education hub, with several universities and institutions. The city enjoys a very high quality of living, being ranked 19th in the 2019 Mercer Quality of Living Survey.
The location are very good. It is very easily accessible via few minutes walk. I was impressed with Plaza view! I wish it was better weather outside. Anyway I have enjoyed the view. Worth seeing it at least from inside even without having tickets for a performance. Great view on the city from there. #wintergetaway

The city of Hamburg a bit looks like Amsterdam or Venice because of the many canals passing through the town. They are part of Elba river and they make the city looks pretty different than any other city in #germany #europe
I will definitely go again there some day.

The philharmonie of Hamburg is very modern building and it is located on Elba river. It is one of the main attractions of this northern town. There are very big concert halls inside. The whole building is very big and spacious. It worth visiting...

The world's largest warehouse complex: Hamburg Warehouse City
is the best in Hamburg, the most worthwhile place, located in the warehouse city on the canal. It is the world of red brick buildings, looking at it, it is a uniform, square red brick building, and this building built at the end of the 19th century is the largest and oldest warehouse complex in the world.
Hamburg is also known as Venice on the water. Just like Venice, the warehouse city of Hamburg is divided by many canals. There are about 2,500 bridges in the city. So you come to Hamburg and travel on the bridges and enjoy the canal. The beauty and old buildings are the best gestures to unlock the beauty of Hamburg.
The red brick building in the warehouse city is beautiful from any angle. Originally a long-lost land, it became the largest urban development project in Europe. After decades of development and planning, it has become a gathering place for museums and restaurants. Figure 4 is a map of the attractions of various museums in the warehouse city. Friends who want to visit the museum can not spend a day here.
Walking in the warehouse city, you can often see the statues of these water-seekers. These statues are from the story of a water-seeker in Hamburg in the 19th century. They are also looking for these colorful diving statues on the streets. There is a lot of fun in the warehouse city.
Hamburg's most famous folk museum, formerly known as a small ethnographic collection, was founded in 1879 and is now Europe's largest folk museum. There are about 350,000 collections in the museum, which showcases traditional and modern crafts from Africa, Asia and the South Pacific, such as masks, costumes, musical instruments, etc., detailing the story history of folk art culture. .
Among the many museums in Hamburg, the folk museum is more recommended. The building itself is a historic building worth seeing. The entrance hall is like a palace. Most of the introductions are in German. It is recommended to buy tickets. Take a brochure on the exhibits to learn about the history of some of the more important cultural exhibits. Note that the museum's last caf is also a very comfortable place to rest, perfect for taking pictures!
opening time: 10am-18pm, extended to 21pm/hh on Thursday/ticket: 7, free for children, 3 on Friday
What fun is there in the northern part of Germany where few people have traveled?
There may not be as romantic as the Bavarian town, perhaps without the prosperity of Munich, perhaps without the industrial modernization of Cologne and the southwestern city of Frankfurt, but this place with a long history, for thousands of years, the mountains and the sea , has lived a simple life. If you like to explore new destinations, eager to learn about some non-popular attractions, or love nature and love human history, then choosing to come to North Germany is a vacation choice in your leisure time.
Hamburg: Germany's second largest city, also the largest port city, has a long history and is estimated to be numerous. The leisurely travel mode is integrated with the increasingly fast-paced work life of local young people.
Bremen: The birthplace of the Grimm Brothers fairy tale, street musicians are the symbol of this small town, suitable for a day-round exquisite German city.
Harts Mountain: Walking through countless exquisite and well-preserved fairy-tale towns, the legend of the witches is constantly spreading in this mountain, the undeveloped virgin forest park, the old castle town, the big size The small mountain lake makes it the most famous minority resort in North Germany.
Berlin: The capital of Germany, countless historical monuments are worth visiting. The museums on the island are worth a day or two to visit, and there is also the name of Bear City, which can be robbed. Search for the statues of the bears on the street.
Two euros let you experience the temptation of German uniforms.
Well, this is actually a niche museum in the warehouse city of Hamburg: the Customs Museum. The small and exquisite museum, the prototype is mainly about the past and present of the Hamburg customs, but the introduction of the whole German is still difficult to understand, but the grandfather sent a thick English introduction book when entering the hall. The exhibits are very interesting, because it is not just a simple narrative, but also the layout of the customs office and the uniforms that are unique to the officials of each period. I cant help but recall the beautiful agents in the SHIELD agents.

Germany's largest port city: Hamburg, also known as "German gateway to the world"
stroll in the old town of Hamburg, surrounded by the perfect blend of vintage and modern architecture. The city hall, full of new literary style, looks very bright in the sun, and the crowd is always crowded, highlighting the vitality of the city. The historic warehouse district is now home to museums. Take a boat ride between the countless canals of the Old Town and be the best choice for a burger.
This is a city suitable for young people, but there is a full of vitality in the tranquility, and the increasingly commercial atmosphere also highlights the vitality of the city.
This is a city that has flourished due to shipping and warehousing. Goods from all over the world are piled up in the port of the Elbe River. The warehouse is built along the river. Gradually, the dazzling red brick building is full of the west bank of Hamburg, and the straight cube is just like design. The figure came out in general, and behind the thick walls, there were countless teas from Asia, coffee in Africa, cocoa in the Americas, tobacco in the Caribbean, carpets in the Middle East...
Warehouse City 100 years ago, still low The short shantytowns, densely inhabited by the city's craftsmen and seafarers, the damp air, the ubiquitous mice, the sanitation of the troughs ushered in a cholera, and 17,000 people were taken away. Life, the warehouse city is dead.
In view of this situation, the government finally made up its mind to transform this place, demolished the shanty town, and intended to rebuild it into a dock warehouse. Many merchants smelled the real estate business opportunities and joined the planning of the warehouse city. High, the motherland is built on the road.
Where the river is vertical and horizontal, at full tide, the cargo ship from the North Sea directly pulls the goods to the warehouse on the underground of the warehouse, tea from Asia, coffee from Africa, cocoa from the Americas, tobacco from the Caribbean, from the Middle East The carpet, a busy marina scene.
Coming to Hamburg, standing in the square of the town hall, the solemn atmosphere always haunts everyone coming here, there is no loud voice, no footsteps, and tourists visiting the town hall are light and light. Language, quietly admiring the building. On the square not far from the town hall, there is a clear water area, which is home to many white swans, foreheads, and ducks. Just bought a bag of whole-grain bread that I don't like very much, throwing waste, it's better to give these little guys. So I tried to throw a small piece of bread in the lake, and I was immediately robbed by a few swans. The last swan swiftly swallowed it... I fed a little duck that looked at me with my eyes. I swallowed it eagerly, and then I followed me. Where do I go, I look at you with pitiful eyes, my heart will be gone~ but don't feed too much, it is not good to eat them badly.
Perhaps God is too favored, and the burgers on the banks of the River Elbe enjoy the love and embrace of the ocean, the canals and the lake. Water has filled her with vitality and spirituality. The shipping of the world has been paralleled. The buildings all show extraordinary temperament. The music of genius is born here. The glory and splendor of Germany is witnessed by her again and again.
Hamburg is one of Germany's three state-level cities (Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen), Germany's second largest city, Germany's most important seaport and largest foreign trade center, Germany's second financial center, and The economic and cultural metropolis of northern Germany has the reputation of World Bridge City.
Three hundred and sixty-five days a year, the gateway to the world of miniature models is open to visitors every day: railroad tracks, trains, statues, buildings, landscapes the scenes and details are so spectacular that visitors are impressed. As of January 2011, the miniature landscape here is divided into seven major themes: Harz, Alps, Austria, Hamburg, USA, Scandinavia and Switzerland. Therefore, it is not surprising that the hamburger miniature landscape world has become the world's largest CNC railway model in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Hamburg's miniature landscape of 15,000-kilometer-long railroad tracks can reach 15,000 car skins. To this end, 5,000 houses and bridges, 250,000 trees and 250,000 single-person statues have created magnificent scenes in proportion to the H0 track. Nearly half a million lights have made this miniature railway beautiful and beautiful, making visitors unforgettable. In order to control the train operation, a total of sixty computers were used.
