During the half year of living in Groningen, most of the time I bought ingredients and went back to the dormitory to cook for myself or ate meals cooked by classmates from various countries. I only went to a coffee shop when I wanted to drink a cup of good coffee, and I loved it the most. The one I love and the one I go to most often is Food Matterz! Ever since I ordered a cup of the rarely seen Latte Macchiato one time, I have been addicted. The warm and fragrant fresh milk is mixed with a large layer of thick and dense milk foam, and finally a shot of coffee is poured into it. Everything goes together just right. There will also be a small cookie and a small cup of sinful sweet whipped cream on the side😌. From then on, this cup of Food Matterz’s Latte Macchiato has become my must-order every time. (In the photo, there is a cup of Latte at the table every time. Macchiato, I’m really not lying! 🤣) I used to wonder why this cup tastes so good and fragrant even though it’s all fresh milk, milk foam, and coffee. ⋯I even forgot that I was in the Netherlands🇳🇱! ! Isn't that the reason? ! On the European gastronomic map, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese cuisines are all world-famous, while Dutch cuisine is relatively unknown. The Dutch cuisine is unpretentious, so the Netherlands is often called a "food desert". However, the Dutch 🤩dairy products🤩 have become a bright spot in this "desert". Getting There - The Martinitower is located in the centre of the inner city. It is the easiest to get there by bike. There are many bikes parked next to the tower Attractions - The view from the Martinitower is great as it is the highest building in the City. From there you can look down on all the other buildings and plazas Hotels - Next to the martini tower there is a great hotel called the martini hotel. Getting There - The Library building of the University of Groningen is located right in the middle of the city center Attractions - The old University Building does not only look great in the day time, it even looks more magical when it gets dark and the lights go on. It was a trip to Groningen. Just to share some of the places that I have visited 🥰 Upon arrival, we visited Groninger Museum. It is a modern art museum established in 1874, known for its cutting-edge architecture and contemporary exhibits. 📍Museumeiland 1, 9711 ME Groningen 💰 €15 per person We then explored the Martinitoren (Martini Tower). It was built in the 15th century, the tower is the tallest in Groningen, offering panoramic views of the city. I think it is very worth to visit 🙌 📍Martinikerkhof 1, 9712 JG Groningen 💰 €5 per person (approx.) If you are looking for a good restaurant, I would recommend you to check out Humphrey's Groningen. We went for the 3-course set menu featuring Dutch specialties like "Stamppot" (a traditional mashed potato dish). It was very unique and delicious. 💰€29.95 per person 📍 Vismarkt 42, 9711 KV Groningen We also explored the Noordelijk Scheepvaart museum. A museum dedicated to the maritime history of Northern Netherlands, located in a medieval building from the 14th century. 📍Brugstraat 24, 9711 HZ Groningen 💰€9 per person (approx.) We also walked through the Prinsenhof Gardens 🌸. A Renaissance-style gardens dating back to the 17th century, once part of a monastery. 📍Turfsingel 86, 9712 KP Groningen We also went to University Museum. Museum of the University of Groningen, showcasing its history and scientific achievements. 📍Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat 7a, 9712 EA Groningen 💰€5 per person (approx.) I would also want to suggest one of my favourite restaurant, Pernikkel. We enjoyed their seasonal dishes or the popular "Pernikkel Burger." 🍔 The fries was so so good! A UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its mudflat hiking ("Wadlopen") and seal watching tours. My travel picks in Netherland were all over the place. Firstly, because I was very comfortable. Most places in Netherlands, it was easy to get by with English. And secondly I was constantly looking foe off beat spots. If a place had decent transport connections, accomodation options and no harsh reviews, i would give it a try. Also, I had exhausted the usual list of places people go to in Netherlands. Groningen made for an unusual but eventful break. Bicycles were big here as with many other places in Netherlands. And my preferred choice. This being the month of May, the weather was very nice. I picked a hostel outside the city center. I started off with a wonderful boat tour. Great way to absorb the sights and get a hang of the town. Rest of my travels were a combo of on foot and the bicycle. From the Groningen museum, to the fish market, martini tower, to cycling around town and trying a hand at indoor rock climbing.
