A One-Day Self-Driving Tour on the Great Ocean Road in Melbourne, Australia: Capture Every Moment
I planned a one-day self-driving tour with a group of friends to the Great Ocean Road in Melbourne, Australia. This was an unforgettable journey. The Great Ocean Road is famous for its magnificent coastline and natural scenery, and I was eager to explore this beautiful land even before we set off.
Located on the southeastern coast of Victoria, Australia, the Great Ocean Road stretches about 243 kilometers. Through the car window, you can see long stretches of beach, with the blue sea contrasting sharply with the golden sand. The waves crash against the shore, creating a pleasant sound.
Next, we arrived at the famous Twelve Apostles. These towering rock formations stand in the sea like natural sculptures, showcasing the grandeur and power of nature.
Later, we reached Apollo Bay, a charming small town with beautiful beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. I had lunch at a local Chinese restaurant, the only one open because we arrived late for lunch. 🍚
After lunch, we headed to the coast of Apollo Bay! Walking along the coast, our steps were accompanied by the sound of the waves, feeling the gentle touch of the sea on the sand.
Next, we visited the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch, a landmark that attracts countless tourists. Finally, we arrived at the Cape Otway Lightstation, a cute lighthouse perched on a spectacular coastline, making it a highlight of the Great Ocean Road and a great spot for photos.
Must-visit: Great Ocean Road, Melbourne 🇦🇺
#wheretogo
It was my first time doing a road trip to visit the Great Ocean Road in Melbourne Australia, and it was an unforgettable experience!
An extremely scenic drive, the top attraction at the Great Ocean Road is without a doubt is the Twelve Apostles rock formations – in fact there are less than twelve, with the others having collapsed into the sea.
This is one of the world’s most famous coastal journeys you won’t want to miss!
My rating of this attraction: 5 ⭐️ out of 5!
The world's most beautiful coastal road | Classic must-play travel route
Presumably, it is the first checkpoint for many people to visit Melbourne, and it is easy to reach the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne.
Our itinerary follows the coastal road, and we drove and played for more than 6 hours until we reached the Twelve Apostles. The Great Ocean Road is about 1-1.5 hours' drive from Melbourne (about 75 kilometers).
The Great Ocean Road can be said to be a paradise for nature lovers, with spectacular coastlines and dense tropical rainforests intertwined. Along this road, you can easily capture various Instagram-worthy scenery.
Route: Great Ocean Road Memorial Archway - Split Point Lighthouse - The Grotto - Gibson Steps - Twelve Apostles and many other attractions that I can't remember. I heard that the rocks of the Twelve Apostles are slowly disappearing, so I really really have to go once in my lifetime.

the wreck
#celebratewithtrip
the next stop of my great ocean road road trip was actually the wreck. it is also very beautiful over here and you can take some nice pictures. this is a must visit as the pictures would turn out great too. and there isn’t much people hence easy to take pictures. similarly it is very easy to reach here with no steep slopes and a straight route from the car park hence suitable and manageable for people of all ages. highly recommended to come here if you have the chance to visit during your great ocean road road trip. sea was very blue and beautiful. together with the rocks it was mesmerizing and pretty.
The Great Ocean Road is really great!
This was our first time driving overseas, and boy was it a memorable one! We had entire beaches to ourselves, we witnessed magnificent waterfalls, we were greeted by rainbows and wondrous sea scapes every day. We loved the long walks by the beach, and the treks in the Great Otways, and looking out for wildlife like kangaroos and koalas. The locals were so friendly, and the food was simply delicious too - try the scallop pies, they’re simply out of this world! We never knew the ocean could be such a calming yet majestic presence, until the Great Ocean Road showed us so.. we’re humbled by the huge expanse of this world, and have captured many amazing memories which we’ll fondly look back upon! so blessed. 🥰#nationalpark #selfdrive #ocean #aussietourist#
Traveling the Great Ocean Road
The great ocean road is one of the world's most scenic drives, running along the south coast of Australia between Melbourne and Adelaide. You could see part of it on a day tour from either city, but if you want to see the whole thing, you'll need at least two or three days. If you don't have access to your own car, there are plenty of tours running from both Melbourne and Adelaide.
Along the way you can stop at a number of spots for some amazing views. The Grampians is a great spot as are the Twelve Apostles. The twelve apostles are a collection of stone pillars rising up from the ocean. If you're lucky you might even come across some wildlife along the way like koalas, kangaroos and wallabies.
The Greatest Drive in Australia
-Great Ocean Road, Melbourne Australia -
No Melbourne trip is complete without going on a road trip to the spectacular Great Ocean Road!
The Great Ocean Road is an extremely scenic drive stretching more than 240km from the coastal town of Torquay to Warrnambool. To be honest, the drive along the coast is the most enjoyable drive I have done in my life due to the amazing scenery along the way but also the many bends of the road, making it a really interesting and fun road to drive on!
There are many iconic landmarks along the way with 2 of the most popular ones to be the 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge. Both destinations offers breaktaking sea view with each of its own unique flavours. They are just 3mins drive away from each other, so I’ll highly recommend to visit both places!

Great Ocean Drive 12 Apostles
A long and very scenic drive around 4-5 hours away from#melbourneaustralia lies the world famous Great Ocean Drive 12 Apostles. Do time your drive properly if you are not doing a stay at the towns near the Great Ocean Road.
This amazing natural beauty lies by the ocean and never fails to draw a crowd. May be best to visit earlier to avoid your buses. It is also possible to do a helicopter tour there.

Australia | Must-see hotel on the Great Ocean Road to see the scenery starry sky alpaca
This time the Great Ocean Road chooses to live in Seafarers Getaway in Apollo Bay, this hotel is built on the hillside of the road, the bedroom is the floor-to-ceiling windows The scenery is beautiful!
Room type must book a two-bedroom villa, the one bedroom is at the bottom, not high enough to be wide. We are very fortunate to get the highest row of three rooms on the side (there is only one side in the middle), the main bedroom is full of large glass windows on both sides, it is super beautiful!
The room is apartment-style, you can cook for yourself. Driving in 5 minutes is the town of Apollo Bay. There are restaurants and supermarkets. It is highly recommended to buy food and come back to do it yourself, then look at the scenery on the outside terrace, and suddenly feel that this is life, only one night is really reluctant to leave.
The Great Ocean Road has very little light pollution, the air is clear, and you can see the starry sky at night. It is a pity that there was a cloud that night, and only one of them was photographed in the gap between the clouds. In the Milky Way, the stars were shining. It turns out that the stars are really blue, and the book is not a lie.
There are all pastures around the house. You can also tease and watch the alpacas you want to laugh at.
This hotel is very red. It is said that the peak season should be booked a few months in advance. The off-season is much better. We booked it almost ten days in advance.

Australia's Great Ocean Road Self-driving | Apollo Bay's net red hotel with grass mud horse ranch
This Great Ocean Road self-driving We stayed at Seafarers Gateway Resort in Apollo Bay for one night, this hotel is real Facing the sea, the sea view is super beautiful, and it also comes with a grass mud horse ranch. It is great to scribble mud horses!
If you live in this house, it is recommended to choose the family room on the top of the mountain like us. It is very quiet. It is surrounded by the green grass slope of the sea. The floor-to-ceiling windows can overlook Apollo. The view is full of fried chicken. It is real. Facing the sea. In the evening, you can look up at the stars, because there is no light pollution, you can see the stars in the sky, the beautiful cry! On the second day, I went to the balcony on the doorstep to eat breakfast on the background of the South Pacific Ocean. ~
This hotel also has an alpaca ranch, where you can happily scribble mud horses at any time. Be careful when you are born!
Speaking of the Great Ocean Road, its a bit of a day to drive back and forth, or staying for one night is better. If you are driving for two days and one night, it is recommended to live in this net red hotel with grass mud horse~

[self-driving Great Ocean Road, beautiful coastline]
It is said that the Great Ocean Road often rains. When we go, most of them are sunny. When the twelve disciples approached the end of the day, they began to cloud, forming a special twelve-day disciple of Haitian. Wonderful scenery ~
Great Ocean Road is also very suitable for aerial photography ~
[time suggestion] one day from Melbourne to the twelve disciples time is enough, just a bit of a hurry, if time allows, you can spend 1 day and a half to drive, so half There is plenty of time to take pictures on the road~
[La Liga] Australia is driving on the left. Contrary to the domestic situation, it is best to find an empty section for a period of time before going on the road.
The Great Ocean Road, located in the west of Melbourne, was built by the Australian government for the soldiers who died in the First World War. Construction began in 1919 and was completed in 1932, with a total length of 276 kilometers. The
White Queen Lighthouse is the most beautiful of the eight lighthouses on the Great Ocean Road. It is not only an important navigational guide in Victoria, but also one of the many navigation warning lights on the coastline of the Great Ocean Road. The
Lorne Trestle Bridge extends to the center of the sea and the scenery is unique.
How can you not mention the twelve disciples in the Great Ocean Road? This is the landmark and the most enduring scenery. Although the twelve rocks have only seven remaining baptisms after thousands of years of sea breeze and waves, they have been carved into a human face by nature, seemingly sad, just like gentle, skillful. The
Loyard Valley is adjacent to the Twelve Apostles. It is a spectacular U-shaped canyon formed by towering cliffs with sandy beaches and azure waters. The reason why the
London Broken Bridge is famous is that it was once connected to the mainland by a natural bridge. The bridge collapsed in January 1990, and two frightened tourists were trapped on the newest island in the world. They were broadcast live on the whole process of being rescued by helicopters, so they are widely known and come here. Grotto is a natural cave formed by the erosion of limestone by seawater for thousands of years. It is covered with vegetation and is a wonder.
Driving on the Great Ocean Road, so many beautiful scenery can be said to be climax, surprisingly continuous, there is no second road in the world can be comparable.

On the way back to city
From the great ocean road to Melbourne very nice weather today
Road trip in Australia, Great Ocean Road
Going to the Great Ocean Road, it would be a pity not to have any road trip photos, so I will post them here.
- Renting a European car in Australia is much cheaper than in Thailand, so let's test drive it. Actually, I booked a Benz but got a BM, which was good.
- Right-hand drive, drive on the left lane like in Thailand, not difficult to drive.
- Thai driver's license is valid, no need to get an international driver's license.
- The speed limit in the city is 60, on highways 80 and expressways 100. People here like to accelerate hard to cross red lights and brake to avoid exceeding the speed limit, which is funny.
- Traffic laws here are quite strict and everyone follows them well. Luckily, I had experience clearing checkpoints in Morocco. When I came here, I was very careful. It's been a month since I came back and I still haven't gotten a ticket. I hope I'll be safe.
- Warning signs are very reliable. They say there's construction ahead, but there really are people working there. They say to watch out for animals crossing the road, but there's a dead kangaroo on the side of the road.
- Fill up the gas yourself and pay for it yourself at a minimart. First time filling up, I was a bit embarrassed because the queue was very long, but I still didn't forget to take a picture.
- There are both free and paid parking spaces (with a limited parking hours). You have to look at the signs and pay at the booth.
Finally, I don't love driving, even though I drive every day. End of review.

Joined a day tour from Melbourne city center, the tour lasts about twelve hours. Although the drive is long, it is definitely worth it. At every scenic spot, you can hear the pleasant sound of waves crashing against the shore, and enjoy the endless views and the natural scenery crafted by nature. Additionally, you may encounter unique local wildlife and plants at any time. On the way from the city to the Great Ocean Road, you will pass various farms where you can see adorable animals like sheep, cows, horses, and even alpacas. 😍 If you can only join one day tour in Melbourne, this is undoubtedly the best choice.
Great view great moment via Great Ocean Road
During your drive along Great Ocean Road dont forget to visit !
Great Ocean Road, Loch Ard Gorge
Here, there is an interesting history. It goes back to 1878. There was a large junk named Loch Ard sailing from England to Melbourne for more than three months. It crashed into Mutton Bird Island. In this area, almost everyone on the ship died. Only two teenage boys survived, a man named Tom Pearce and a woman named Eva Carmichael.
Therefore, there are 4 interesting points here. Three of them are on the cliffs:
1. Tom and Eva Lookout, two stone pillars named after the two surviving children.
2. The Razorback is a large, narrow cliff that juts out into the ocean. The overall view of this point is beautiful.
3. Mutton Bird Island Lookout, a viewpoint of Mutton Bird Island where the ship crashed and sank.
The other point is below, which is the main name of this place, Loch Ard Gorge. It is temporarily closed. You can only see from above.

Journey Along the Majestic Great Ocean Road
#australiatrip
Embarking on the Great Ocean Road tour was an exhilarating adventure through some of Australia's most spectacular coastal scenery. Starting from Melbourne, our journey hugged the rugged southern coastline of Victoria, offering breathtaking views at every turn.
The iconic Twelve Apostles stood as monumental sentinels against the crashing waves of the Southern Ocean, their limestone stacks glowing in the warm hues of sunrise. Nearby, the Loch Ard Gorge evoked a sense of maritime history, with its dramatic cliffs and tales of shipwrecks adding a poignant touch to the landscape.
Driving further along, the lush rainforests of the Otway Ranges provided a refreshing contrast, offering glimpses of native wildlife and tranquil waterfalls. The serenity of Apollo Bay and its pristine beaches invited moments of relaxation, while quaint seaside towns like Lorne and Port Campbell offered charming stops for local cuisine and souvenir shopping.
Exploring the Great Ocean Road wasn't just about its natural wonders; it was also a journey through history. The Memorial Arch commemorated the labor of World War I servicemen who built this iconic road, adding a layer of reverence to our scenic drive.
Each stop along the way revealed a new facet of Australia's natural beauty and cultural heritage, from the rugged cliffs of the Shipwreck Coast to the verdant hinterland dotted with quaint villages. The tour was expertly guided, with informative commentary enriching our understanding of the region's geology, ecology, and history.
Overall, the Great Ocean Road tour was an unforgettable experience that showcased the best of Australia's coastal landscapes. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking a scenic drive, this iconic route promises awe-inspiring vistas and memorable moments that will stay with you long after the journey ends.
Great Ocean Road
Enjoyable trip to Melbourne. Great scenery and food was nice. Loving the slow pace life. Will definitely be back again #melbourne
This is the ultimate way to experience the Great Ocean Road!
Visiting Melbourne without seeing the Great Ocean Road is a missed opportunity! After experiencing it myself, I've discovered the best way to explore this coastal highway!
🛬【Itinerary】: You can choose a one-day or two-day tour, but if you have enough time, I strongly recommend the two-day tour! Here's why:
The Great Ocean Road is filled with numerous small attractions. They may be small, but there are so many of them! A one-day tour only allows for a quick glance at less than half of the attractions, which isn't suitable for fully appreciating this beautiful scenic route.
A two-day tour allows the guide to take you on forest hikes, mountain top views, and even experience an Australian roadside BBQ. This is the true Next Level experience for your social media!
⛺【Must-Visit Attractions】: Twelve Apostles, Cape Otway Lighthouse, Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch, Gibson Steps, Loch Ard Gorge, and the town of Lorne...
🍩【Must-Try Food】: For lunch, you can visit Long Hua Chinese Restaurant in one of the small towns (see photo 4). The lobster is very fresh, and the braised beef instantly transports you back to China.
Right next door is the famous Australian ice cream shop Dooleys (see photo 5). The portions are large and delicious!
🏨【Accommodation Tips】: For a two-day tour, you can stay in the town of Lorne, which has many B&Bs.
🚌【Transportation Tips】: The Great Ocean Road is over 600KM round trip. You can either drive yourself or hire a car.
🧡【Here's the Key!】: We are a team of Ctrip Gold Medal Guides based in Melbourne. We can take you to all the attractions on the Great Ocean Road! It's currently summer special season, and you can enjoy additional discounts on our Great Ocean Road products if you book now. Contact me to learn more!
