Some more #GrazLove as the city is a favourite in here and often comes up. I was back there two years ago .The beauty of it is that you never tire of the classic views, while always finding something new. In my case, the ARGOS building by Zaha Hadid had finally been completed and there's a Red Bull Racing car attached to the rocky walls of the Schloßberg. I also stayed in Lend and got to explore this edgy neighbourhood further, with more time.

The Peak of Graz City--Schlossberg
📍Attraction Address: Castle Hill rising from the old town of Graz
🚗Attraction Transportation: Overlooking the old town from Castle Hill is a must-do when visiting Graz. Castle Hill is 437 meters high, and you can take a cable car or walk up. There are three main ways to tour the hill: for a more relaxed experience, you can take the cable car that reaches the top in 2 minutes; a quicker option is the transparent elevator, which takes only half a minute to reach the top; finally, you can walk up the 260 steps of the Kries Path carved along the mountain wall.
👍️Must-visit Attractions: The main attractions on Castle Hill include the Chinese Pavilion, the Clock Tower, the Fortress Ruins, the Castle Hill Museum, the Kasematten Stage, the Battery, and the Starbast Prison.
Fortress Ruins: The castle ruins on Castle Hill are the oldest buildings in Graz, with nearly a thousand years of history; the German name of Graz originally means "castle." Graz initially developed into a small feudal town centered around this location. On the old site of the castle, four cannons are placed, overlooking the area with great majesty. During the Napoleonic era in the 19th century, when France invaded Austria, there was a fierce defensive battle on this hill. Although the Austrians were eventually defeated, they remembered this battle deeply. After this battle, France occupied Austria for eight years. Napoleon, unable to forget the heavy casualties of the French siege forces, ordered the castle to be completely destroyed, leaving only the remaining ruins. Today, the clock tower built on these ruins has become a symbol of the city. The winding paths built along the hill have also become a popular spot for young couples to stroll in the summer.
Observation Deck: Besides viewing the large clock, there is an observation deck at the top of the hill where you can overlook the entire city of Graz, with maps available to compare the city's layout. There are also several scenic cafes at the top where you can enjoy coffee while taking in the view, making for a very pleasant experience.
Clock Tower
Graz Clock Tower
Standing on Castle Hill, the Clock Tower is a landmark building of Graz, visible from anywhere in the city, with the time clearly marked on its clock face. For hundreds of years, the clock has silently witnessed and recorded the rise and fall of Graz like a guardian. The clock chimes three times a day (7:00, 12:00, and 19:00), each time striking 101 times, reminding people that it was cast from 101 cannonballs.
The Clock Tower was first built in the 13th century as a watchtower, and it was rebuilt in 1588 to its current form. At that time, its tasks were to give warnings and tell the time, with three different large bells hanging on the tower: the time bell, the fire alarm bell, and the death bell. In 1712, the time bell was replaced by a larger and newer wall clock, and the death bell was soon removed, leaving only the fire alarm bell in place.
Castle with Cosmic Elements - Eggenberg Palace
📍Attraction Address: Eggenberg Palace is located in the western part of Graz city.
🚗Attraction Transportation: Tram Line 1, Eggenberg Palace Station
👍️Must-visit Attraction: Eggenberg Palace was built starting in 1625 by Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg, one of the most influential politicians in Austria in the seventeenth century, on the basis of his original castle. Apart from a few halls that were redecorated in the Rococo style in the eighteenth century, the entire castle has remained unchanged for over three hundred years. Because of its well-preserved and magnificent splendor, Eggenberg Palace was included in the World Cultural Heritage Graz Historic Centre in 2011. The official name of this heritage in the UNESCO World Heritage List is the Graz Historic Centre and Eggenberg Palace.
The castle's four towers symbolize the four seasons, and it has a total of 365 windows, representing the 365 days of the year. Each floor has 31 rooms, representing the maximum number of days in a month. The third floor is the most exquisite part of the castle, with a total of 24 halls, symbolizing the 24 hours of a day. These halls have a total of 52 windows, exactly the number of weeks in a year. This palace is part of the Joanneum Universal Museum.
The palace also features an Old Gallery, a Coin Cabinet, a magnificent Planetary Garden, and a beautiful park. In the Coin Cabinet, coins from the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries are displayed, which are very exquisite.
Graz Museum
The Graz History Museum is located on the second floor of the historic Palais Herberstein building in the city center. The new permanent exhibition trilogy showcases the cultural heritage of Styria. Among them, the 'Schaudepot' exhibition hall is conceived as a 'display warehouse', covering cultural history collections and multimedia display areas. It, along with the '100×Steiermark' exhibition hall, is considered a milestone in the transformation of the Graz History Museum.
The first part of the exhibition hall displays a variety of industrial materials and historical artifacts. Despite the multifunctional and highly flexible exhibition space, the internal space maintains a consistent atmosphere. Exhibits of various shapes and sizes are presented to visitors, providing an unexpectedly rich spatial experience. The second part of the exhibition hall is a multimedia archive, a space that allows visitors to gain deep insights into the museum. Guided by the perspective space, visitors can embark on a wonderful journey of exploring multimedia materials. In the final part of the exhibition hall, all hidden treasures are presented to visitors. This space is filled with display cabinets woven from metal mesh, forming smooth transitions between each other, filling the entire space with a rugged industrial atmosphere, perfectly blending historical relics with modern design.
Graz Art Museum
📍Attraction Address: The building is located on the banks of the Mur River in the ancient European city of Graz,
👍️Must-visit Attraction: The construction of the Graz Art Museum was part of a series of celebrations held to commemorate Graz being named the 'European Capital of Culture' in 2003. Designed by Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, its biomorphic exterior surface is known as the 'BIX Facade.' The east side of the Graz Art Museum can serve as a giant display screen, presenting information related to the art and cultural activities held inside.
Its unusual shape is fundamentally different from traditional exhibition hall structures. This massive building is affectionately called the Friendly Alien by its creators. In terms of form and materials, it is deliberately contrasted with the surrounding Baroque-style red-tiled roofs.
Some think it looks like a bizarre submarine, while others say it resembles a 'gilled giant beast' surfacing from the water. The Graz Art Museum has three floors, with the top floor hall designed without columns. Natural light enters the interior through 15 pipes protruding from the roof. The hall features a movable ramp, allowing visitors to be slowly 'sucked' into the exhibition hall in the raised middle part, creating a feeling of being engulfed by art. It is very innovative and unique.
Austria's 'Little Castle'—Experience the Passage of Time in the Old Town of Graz
Graz is called Austria's 'Little Castle' because the word 'Graz' comes from the Slavic language, originally meaning a small castle. Today, Graz has become Austria's second-largest city, with the Mur River, a tributary of the Danube, flowing through it. The old town is located on the eastern bank of the Mur River—this is also where the attractions of Graz are concentrated.
🌟 Highlights:
The Armoury Museum
Graz is the hometown of Schwarzenegger, who was an actor before becoming a governor, and it happens to have the world's largest armoury museum, which is as tough in style as Schwarzenegger himself. The weapons here are well-preserved, many of them gleaming with a cold light, as if they are still imposing on the battlefield.
Schlossberg (Castle Hill)
Climb to the top of Schlossberg to overlook the entire little town of Graz and feel the serene atmosphere surrounding you. When descending the hill, you can choose to take a slide, which is both fun and exciting.
Graz, Styria
Graz, Styria is located within the Austrian state of Styria (Steiermark), and is the capital of the state. It is the second largest city in Austria, after Vienna. As a World Heritage Site and the European Capital of Culture in 2003, Graz is known for its advantageous southern resources and pleasant climate, making it an ideal leisure city. It is situated at the southern foothills of the Alps, a central European stronghold.

Austria’s Second Largest City
Graz is the second largest city of Australia and the capital of federal state Styria. I remember that our tour guide mentioned too that Graz is the is the birthplace of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
We went up to the 473-metre high Graz Schlossberg for the best vantage point to enjoy the view of the city. Aside from the picturesque views of the old and new Graz, the park features a 28 meter clock tower, which is the traditional and most beloved symbol of city.
Going down the park, one can take a leisure climb down via stairs to enjoy more of the view (which my husband and I chose) or take the Slide Graz going down for a very exciting 30-40secs. It is said to be the highest underground slide in the world 😊🍂.

The provincial capital of Styria, Graz, is the second largest city in Austria, spanning the banks of the Moor River, a tributary of the Danube, and was built in 1240. After 1379, he was the seat of the royal family of Leopold Habsburg. The seventeenth to eighteenth centuries were trade centers and developed rapidly in the 19th century.
Gratz is a bit strange to the average traveler, but for the Austrians, it has a different general meaning. For a long time, the Austrians have protected Graz as a "secret lover" - if Saying that Vienna and Salzburg belong to international travelers, then Graz is the Austrian's favorite city. The modern tram runs slowly through the well-preserved classical streets, between the Baroque buildings with gray walls and red tiles....The old town of Graz is in good condition and maintains its ancient style. It is said that its basic layout was in 1164. It has been formed and is the largest medieval inner city in Europe. In 1999, the city of Graz was included in the World Cultural Heritage.
The castle hill that rises from the city of Graz and the big clock that stands on it are the symbols of the city. Looking at the castle hill overlooking the old town is a check-in project to Graz. The Castle Hill is 437 meters high and can be reached by cable car, elevator or on foot. The
big clock tower, built in the 13th century, can be seen anywhere in the city and can clearly see the time of the clock mark. The big bell rings three times a day (7
