The persimmons in Hongyan Village, Gongcheng, are ripe.
I harvested a lot of persimmons in Hongyan Village, Gongcheng
The persimmons in Hongyan Village, Gongcheng, are ripe
I drove from Haiyang Township to Hongyan Village at 4 pm. It got dark quickly, and there were no street lights on the last section of the national highway, so I suggest you set off early.
I stayed at a Yao family homestay, which was very beautiful, and the aunt there was super nice. The fried noodles for breakfast were very suitable for a Guangdong stomach, with a slightly sweet taste.
I set off early in the morning to visit the persimmon orchard before the crowds arrived. I recommend two persimmon orchards. One is at the entrance of the village before reaching the Hongyan Village stone, and the fruit trees are the tallest. The other orchard is on the right at the innermost part, and the trees have been pruned, making it suitable for taking photos.
I took photos in the innermost orchard, where the fruit trees are shorter and suitable for foreground shots. When I got tired of taking photos, I enjoyed coffee and croissants, which were delicious and filling!
After taking photos, I strolled around Hongyan Village, where every household was drying persimmons, creating a lively atmosphere. On the Fengyu Bridge, there was an old lady selling her own soup ingredients, and I unexpectedly bought a lot, so much that my suitcase couldn't fit them all!
Goodbye, Gongcheng. I went home while watching the sunset.
A persimmon tree with beautiful aesthetics, worth visiting a city for!
Persimmons are an important part of the autumn scenery in Jiangnan, but how can these red fruits be shown in their most beautiful form? The surrounding landscape must complement them. Here are some hidden gems for taking photos of persimmons in late autumn. Chinese aesthetics will be easily presented on your phone!
Location 1: Hongyan Village, Gongcheng, Guilin, Guangxi
Transportation: Take a high-speed train to Gongcheng Station, then take a taxi to Hongyan Village. Food and accommodation are convenient. Gongcheng is the hometown of persimmons in Guilin. The persimmons are turning red this season, and there are not many tourists on weekdays.

Location 2: Jingshan Village, Xinchang, Shaoxing, Zhejiang
Self-driving: Navigate to Jingshan Village
High-speed train: Shengzhou Xinchang Station, then take a taxi to Jingshan Village.
The persimmon garden is about 1 hour from Hangzhou. The small village is full of persimmon trees, like lanterns hanging on branches. After visiting, you can go to the nearby Tianmu Mountain Scenic Area or the Great Buddha Temple.
Location 3: Dalan Town, Yuyao, Ningbo, Zhejiang
Late October to early November is the persimmon harvest season and the most beautiful time for the ancient village. Countless ripe persimmons hang on the trees like small red lanterns, which are very beautiful and festive. The persimmons here are of good quality. First, they are red, and second, the leaves fall off after the persimmons ripen, which is convenient for viewing.
This guesthouse in Gongcheng is a hit on social media.
The Gongcheng Persimmon Festival is in full swing, and a one-day trip is a bit rushed, so we booked a guesthouse in Hongyan Village in advance to enjoy a slow life.
This Yao guesthouse is the same one I saw on CCTV, and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to book it, so I booked it about half a month in advance, and I was amazed when I stayed there.
The breakfast is very rich, you can drink authentic Yao intangible cultural heritage oil tea, and you can also eat Yao's specialty sticky rice cake, very satisfying!
The service attitude is impeccable, every staff member is friendly and approachable, from the attentive front desk lady to the enthusiastic and attentive cleaning aunt, every detail makes you feel comfortable.
The facilities are also very nice, the room design is a bit Japanese, the bathing facilities are all smart, and the key ⚠️ every corner is very photogenic, the parents who traveled with us were very happy.
Overall, I had a great time staying here, and if I had the financial means, I would have liked to stay a few more days.
Stroll through the historic Yao Autonomous County and feel the traces of time...

Fall in love with Gongcheng, check in at Gongcheng Yao Family Homestay and Hongyan Village 👍
I happened to find this homestay recommended by CCTV, and since I was passing through Gongcheng on my trip to Guangxi, I decided to check it out. 👌
Since it was the National Day holiday, I booked a room on Trip.com two weeks in advance. The price was higher than usual, but still acceptable. I arrived at the homestay after 9 pm, and the Yao auntie helped me with my luggage. There is a parking lot at the entrance. Check-in was quick, the room was clean, and the experience was good. 💕
Breakfast is included, and the auntie will book a time for you in advance. There is no extra charge for children. Breakfast is hearty, and you can try oil tea on site. Homestay photo tips 💗

🚄 You can also take a bullet train to Gongcheng Station. It takes about 20 minutes to take a taxi from the high-speed rail station to Hongyan Village.
In addition to its world-famous scenery, Guilin is also known for its sweet persimmons.
Every year from October to December, Hongyan Village in Gongcheng is at its busiest.
Pick a sunny day and set off!
For foodies, there are plenty of "mountain goods" here. In addition to the many ways to eat the "star" persimmons, there are also local hawthorn fruits, chestnuts, Chinese dates, peach gum, dried bamboo shoots, camellia leaves, mushrooms, and more. You'll wish you could carry more!
1. The photos shared are all taken from the stone tablet in Hongyan Village. Walk into the village and go downhill. When you are about to reach the rolling dam, turn right and keep walking. The middle and end of the road are great places to take photos.
2. If you want to take photos of the persimmon forest, face the stone tablet in Hongyan Village, and walk up along the road and stalls on the left. This is the viewing platform, but the leaves on the trees have not yet fallen, so the photos taken with a phone are average. (There is a private persimmon forest along the way. You can buy a ticket to enter the garden and take photos. The leaves on the trees have been cut off.)
[Transportation tips]
1. You can drive directly to the village, but there may be traffic jams on weekends!
2. Take the high-speed train directly to Gongcheng Station (super convenient). A taxi from the high-speed train station to Hongyan Village costs about CNY 40.
In Guangxi! Recommended off-the-beaten-path travel destinations, unpopular but beautiful.
📍Hongyan Village, Gongcheng, Guangxi
From November to February of the following year, it is the beautiful season of persimmons. In this village, the mountains are covered with red persimmons! Basically, there are several persimmon trees in front of every house, and the heavy fruits hang on the branches, like cute little lanterns🍅🍅
There are not many people in the village, and the degree of commercialization is very low. The original and simple natural atmosphere is completely preserved here. You can walk around here at will, and every place is like a natural photo studio, with great photo effects. Moreover, many persimmon gardens can be visited and photographed for free! There are mountains and rivers here, and being in it, you feel that your body and mind are healed, and it is extremely comfortable🍃🍃
🚝Transportation: If you depart from Guangzhou, you can take the high-speed train from Guangzhou South to Gongcheng Station. We drove there, and it took about four and a half hours from Guangzhou.
🏨Accommodation: Recommended Shiyuanlou Homestay in Hongyan Village. Standing on the balcony of the room, you can see large persimmon gardens, and those persimmons seem to be within reach! (But be careful, the persimmons on the tree taste astringent.)
🍲Food: The local oil tea hot pot is very famous, and everyone jokingly calls it "Chinese Coffee". The clear soup chicken is also very good! Local villagers will make some bacon, sausages, and persimmon cakes, and the prices are very affordable. The crispy persimmons we bought are only 2 yuan per catty.
Go to Gongcheng to pick persimmons on the weekend... It's so beautiful and photogenic!
I've been thinking about the Persimmon Festival for years, and I finally went!
I took photos at a persimmon grove owned by a farmer at the entrance of Hongyan Village.
The entrance fee is CNY 5 per person, but you can't pick persimmons.
The persimmons in the grove are very photogenic!
The whole village has persimmons 🍅 for sale.
Crisp persimmons are CNY 2–3 per 500g, and dried persimmons are CNY 7–10 per 500g.
The current situation of the Gongcheng Hongyan Village Persimmon Festival on October 25...
The leaves in the persimmon grove haven't fallen yet, and the persimmons aren't red enough.
I suggest going in November or December when it's colder.

Gaogui Ancient Village, Gongcheng, Guangxi.
The name "Gaogui" originated from the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. Our ancestors moved here from Shanglu Tun, Pingling Village, Lianhua Town, and found that the scenery here was not only good, but the geographical feng shui was also very good. At the same time, they believed that the local customs were simple and the character was noble, and they must be noble. Hence the name "Gaogui". However, later generations felt that the word "Gaogui" was too high-profile, and Guilin was named after "Gui". The village was also surrounded by osmanthus trees and osmanthus forests, so the word "Gui" in Gaogui was changed to the "Gui" of osmanthus, and the name Gaogui has been used ever since. Gaogui Village is a traditional Yao village with a unique architectural style. It retains a large number of buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. These buildings are not only a testimony to history, but also an important carrier of cultural heritage. The ancient houses, ancient buildings, and traditional lifestyles in the village together constitute a vivid historical picture, providing valuable physical materials for the study of local history and culture. Among them, the Guiling Diaolou in the village is the best display of these ancient houses. The houses face south and the doors face the "Fengtou" in the east. The halls, courtyards, and rooms of each house are all flat and long, with a width of no more than 2-3 meters. There are many arcade buildings in the ancient residential complex of Fengyan Village, which show a strong Yao style and are also a perfect fusion of Yao and Han culture. According to the genealogy of the Fang family in the village, in the late Kangxi period, the ancestors Hou Chang and Hou Sheng moved from Qianjiadong to Fengyan to reclaim wasteland, and now they have reached the 15th generation. Guangxi Gongcheng Lewan Village Chen Family Mansion.
The Chen Family Mansion, also known as Xianwei Public Ancestral Hall, was built in the Qing Dynasty. It faces east and is made of brick and wood. It is similar to the Fujian Tulou, but the style is different. According to the inscription: the Tulou is square, the outer wall is more than 8 meters high, the inner width is 44 meters, and the area is 2244 square meters.
The Chen Family Mansion is a Tulou, but most of the building materials are bluestone and green brick tiles. The middle three-in-one soil part is only 1 meter high. There are three halls, two patios and forty-eight rooms inside. Including the mill room, the stone mortar room, the livestock room for cattle and horses and the well. From the outside, the majestic mansion is backed by the steep Tiger Mountain, and there are several moats like moats in the southeast and north. The Chen family chose such a place to build a mansion, which is far-sighted and quite wise. As long as the gate is closed, it is easy to defend and difficult to attack, and it is a solid castle.
The Chen Family Mansion took a long time to build, just like the Tulou in Zhangzhou. This mansion took a full 19 years to build, which was almost a generation in the past. He said that our Chen family originated in Erdu Dongpu Village, Zhao'an County, Zhangzhou, Fujian. In the fourth year of Jiaqing (1799 AD), the tenth and eleventh ancestors of the Chen family led several groups of clans to travel thousands of miles and settled in Lewan Village, Gongcheng. It has been 213 years for 10 generations. Among them, their ancestor was Chen Shangguang, the first generation from Fujian, who built this mansion. From the beginning of Daoguang's preparation for construction, to the completion of Daoguang's mid-term, it took 19 years. This "mansion" is a deluxe version of Fujian's square "Tulou", but it is different from Fujian's "Tulou", with the garden atmosphere of Lingnan.
Experiencing 100 Different Lives Through Rural Teaching Support
On August 8, 2018, I participated in the teaching support activity organized by Greenway.
On August 8, 2024, I returned to the old house and met a new group of children.
Six years have passed, and the children who were in second or third grade back then are now in middle school.
The old house remains unchanged.
Fengyan Village in Gongcheng remains unchanged.
The blue sky, white clouds, and persimmon trees by the roadside remain unchanged.
What has changed is the mindset before and after turning 30.
Life is meant to be experienced.
Looking forward to reuniting with the old house every year 🌈
Gongcheng Yangxi
Gongcheng is not just about oil tea! The traditional villages are classical and melodious!
The Yangxi Village in Xiling Town is the third batch of Chinese traditional villages with overlapping eaves, recording the passage of time and the scattered human shadows, where the simplicity and unadorned beauty feel like a world apart.
The lanterns swaying in the wind tell of the joy of festivals, the bougainvillea trembles wildly in bloom, and the goldenrain trees are also full of little red beads.
Taking a leisurely stroll is not only about going to the bustling hot spots crowded with people.
Add a Splash of Color to Your Travel - Gongcheng Hongyan Village Persimmon Festival.
The most famous persimmons in Gongcheng are found in the Hongyan Scenic Area of Lianhua Town, which includes Hongyan Village and Zhushan Village. If you just want to casually browse the Hongyan Scenic Area, one day is enough.
Almost everyone in the village has a few trees for viewing, and they also have several acres of persimmon fields. Every year, they make a cut on the persimmon trees. There are knife marks at the roots of the trees, which serve two purposes: to calculate the age and to prevent the fruits from falling. It is said that after making the cut, the fruits will not fall off until the Spring Festival. You can check this by looking at the tree trunks yourself to see if this claim is true 😊.
The yellow-orange persimmons on the tree are not edible as they are very astringent. The red ones are edible, but be prepared to compete with the birds, as they are the best at identifying which fruits are ripe. The persimmons we usually eat are processed. In the past, they were treated with lime water, but now they are placed in large vacuum boxes for 40-60 hours. The difference between crispy and juicy persimmons lies in the processing method.
When we visited, every household was drying persimmons. Persimmons can be eaten directly or made into dried persimmons, which come in round, rose-shaped, patterned, block, and slice forms. To make dried persimmons, you first need to peel them. Nowadays, there are machines to help with peeling. The rotating machine peels the persimmons with a single cut. Then, they are left to dry in the sun for many days. Whether they are dry or not depends on the middle part.
Persimmons are valuable in every part. The dried persimmon peels are collected by factories to feed cattle. The fallen persimmon leaves can be used to make tea.
