Basum Tso in Tibet | A little Switzerland hidden in Tibet
"Basum Tso" also known as Cuogao Lake🌊, in Tibetan means "green water". The lake is at an altitude of 3480 meters, located 36 kilometers from Bahe Town, Gongbujiangda County, in the upper reaches of the Bahe River in the high mountain valley, it is a famous sacred lake and holy land of the Red Sect. In August 2017, it became the first natural scenic 5A tourist area in Tibet.
🎡 Attractions:
1⃣ Island in the heart of Basum Tso
A small island in the middle of Basum Tso, connected to the land by a floating bridge. Tourists can walk up via this bridge or take a small boat. Legend has it that the island is a "hollow island", i.e., it is not connected to the lake bottom and floats on the lake. Although it is just a legend, it makes people feel the magic of nature.
2⃣ Cuozong Gongba Temple
Located on the island in the lake, it is a famous Red Sect Nyingma temple in Tibet, built in the late Tang Dynasty, with a history of more than 1500 years. There is a peach and pine tree in the south of the temple. In spring, the peach blossoms and green pines contrast each other, which is very beautiful.
3⃣ Jieba Village
At the foot of the scenic area of Basum Tso, there is an ancient village hidden -- Jieba Village, located deep in the scenic area in Cuogao Township. Only when you explore deep into the scenic area, you will find a paradise at the end of the lake.
4⃣ Xinco (very beautiful, worth a visit)✨
Xinco is an extended scenic spot inside Basum Tso, very beautiful, suitable for hiking, 6 kilometers, about 3 hours. Xinco is quite far from Basum Tso, about 20~30 kilometers, and the road conditions are poor.
🎈 Admission: 115 yuan/person, sightseeing car 50 yuan/person
🎈 Opening hours of the scenic area:
3.15-10.15, 8:30--20:30
10.16-next year 3.14, 9:30-19:30
🚘 Transportation: Self-driving or group tour
You can also take a train from Lhasa to Nyingchi, and then take a bus from Nyingchi City Passenger Transport Center to Basum Tso, about 120 kilometers, ticket price 62 yuan, journey 2-2.5 hours
🏠 Food and accommodation: Basum Tso has developed into a relatively mature tourist resort in recent years, with convenient food and accommodation. The prices in the restaurants in the scenic area are relatively high, and the sanitary conditions are general
🌟 Best viewing season: Spring, Autumn.
In spring, Basum Tso will present a charming blue, as if it were the blue tears of Nyenchen Tanglha. If you also like blue, why not go and see Basum Tso in spring!
Every autumn, when the air is crisp and clear, the forest is dyed and the lake water is pure and clear.
Super real Songzanlin (Basongtso Store)
1, The hardware is impeccable, the room has a smart toilet, electric towel rack, projector, ambient night light (it's the most reasonable lighting design in the hotels I've stayed in recently), but the standard room bed is tiny! 1.2m X 1.8m, isn't it impossible for tall people to stretch their legs?
2, Some thoughtful little things, goodnight drink (in a thermos), prepared a variety of drinks coffee and so on that you can make yourself
3, The scenery is stunning, the swimming pool under the snow mountain, the restaurant with a 270-degree view, the dock where you can sail on the lake, and the horse farm and so on, the soon-to-open Ancestor Bird, it's only a matter of time before it becomes a stop on the journey rather than a night at a hotel
4, Food, dinner is not bad, ordered mushroom stewed rice and vegetables and so on, apart from being expensive there is no problem, breakfast is very rich and delicious, afternoon tea is a bit perfunctory, probably considering that not many guests eat it
5, Service, the biggest complaint this time, the night before they said it was quite good, we checked in very late and didn't get afternoon tea, the room can be delayed until 2 o'clock to check out, if we leave early they can help us pack, breakfast until 10 o'clock and so on, the next morning, they first called to urge us to check out at 11 o'clock, because there are new guests booked? We disagreed, then said that afternoon tea can't be packed, only dine in, and said that breakfast is only until 9 o'clock, our communication process also said that we are very difficult to communicate, can't understand a bit.
Above, can experience, encounter a good manager may have a better experience.
Tibet Travelogue (3) —— Gongbu Jiangda County, Nyingchi
About 5 kilometers southeast of Nyingchi city, there is a 20-hectare King Cypress Garden, which contains many ancient cypresses that are over a thousand years old. The largest one is more than 3,200 years old, 50 meters tall, and has a circumference of 15 meters. Unfortunately, the garden was closed for renovation, and we missed the chance to see it in person. Another 5 kilometers to the southeast is the Gala Peach Garden, which is open to the public for free. However, the season had passed, and the peach blossoms had all fallen, leaving a lush green landscape. To appreciate the peach blossoms of Nyingchi, one should visit in late March when the garden must be a captivating sight of spring. Our next destination was the thousand-year-old castle in Xiuba Village, Bahetown, Gongbu Jiangda County, about 90 kilometers from the Gala Peach Garden.
There is a fairly large parking lot next to the G318 national highway outside Xiuba Village, which offers free parking but was completely empty. A yellow cow was wandering around the lot and approached us curiously when we arrived. At the exit stands a multi-tiered square prayer tower with a prayer wheel inside that is 4 to 5 meters tall, said to be the largest in Tibet. On the hillside inside the parking lot, there are terraced houses with the golden characters 'Xiuba Thousand-Year-Old Castle' in both Chinese and Tibetan hanging prominently on the base wall. Climbing the stone steps leads up to the building. Xiuba Village is located on the mountaintop behind the ancient castle. To the west of the prayer tower, there is an asphalt road leading to Xiuba Village, and at the intersection, there is a ticket booth where people over the age of 60 get half-price tickets for 20 yuan, and one can drive up the mountain into the village. Once in the village, you can see the thousand-year-old castle of Xiuba, which are towers on the mountain. Originally there were seven, said to be arranged in the pattern of the Big Dipper, but now only five remain, with a history of 1,600 years, standing as an architectural marvel. The towers are 20 to 30 meters high conical columns, with convex-shaped fronts on all sides. The walls are built of slab stones, about 2 meters thick, and the interior was originally divided into nine floors with wooden boards, all of which have decayed. There is no written record of who built the towers or why, but it may be related to ancient wars or religious prayers.
After visiting the Xiuba Thousand-Year-Old Castle, we took the provincial road S504 to the Basong Lake scenic area, located northeast of Xiuba Village, in the canyon upstream of the Cuogu Langge River, about 43 kilometers from the road. Basong Lake is a sacred place for the Red Sect (Nyingma) of Tibetan Buddhism with a long history. Tickets for the scenic area, including the sightseeing bus, cost 105 yuan per person for those over 60 years old. The sightseeing bus has three stops: the viewing platform, the heart of the lake island, and Jieba Village. We first took the bus to Jieba Village deep in the scenic area, about 11 kilometers from the entrance. 'Jieba' in Tibetan means 'forgotten' and is not related to the Chinese term for stuttering. Legend has it that it was the place where a devout pilgrim who circled the lake to worship Buddha lost and then found his saddle. When asked the name of the place, he laughed and said 'Jieba,' and that's how it got its name. Jieba Village is a local eco-tourism demonstration village, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lakes, and forests, with wild Tibetan pigs roaming the hills, houses in the style of the Gongbu Tibetan people, and more than 80 simple and sincere Tibetan residents, known as a forgotten paradise. If not for the tight schedule, this would be a place to stay and savor.
Leaving Jieba Village by bus and traveling about 7 kilometers towards the entrance of the scenic area, we arrived at the main attraction of the Basong Lake scenic area, the heart of the lake island. According to mythology, beneath the island is the palace of the Basong Lake Dragon Princess, and one can only hope she still resides there in peace. The heart of the lake island is a few dozen meters from the shore, and two floating bridges have been built for the convenience of visitors, which have also become popular photo spots. The Tsokung Garba Monastery on the island is a thousand-year-old ancient monastery of the Nyingma sect. It is not very large, but it contains ancient murals that are still recognizable, and in front of the monastery stands a tall prayer flag pole. The island is home to many thousand-year-old oak trees with twisted branches and dragon-like claws, which have a unique appearance and seem different from the same species elsewhere. On the island, one can also learn about the cultural customs of fertility worship and sky burial.
Around 5 p.m., the sky was filled with thick clouds, and it was getting dark on the ground. We were reluctant to leave, so we took the bus to the viewing platform between the heart of the lake island and the entrance to the scenic area. The viewing platform is not on flat ground but requires climbing two or three hundred steps. From the high platform, one can see the clouds hanging low, the snow-capped mountains towering, the highland lake setting off the heart of the lake island, and the dense forest all in view. However, the strong mountain wind made it difficult to stand still, and the cold was piercing, so we had to hurry down from the viewing platform and end our visit to the Basong Lake scenic area.
Nyingchi is a great destination for you to visit.

.

The lake water is as green as jade, clear, and tranquil, with birds in the sky and fish in the water. You can stroll along the lake to feel the tranquility of Basum Lake, or you can visit the ancient temple on the island. Although the space of the ancient temple is small, it is fully equipped with Buddha statues, prayer flags, butter lamps, etc. Two old monks chant scriptures continuously, and the thousand-year-old temple has left many legends, waiting for you to explore.
.
🎀 Xincuo: Xincuo is hidden in the snow-capped mountains and primitive forests, about 35 kilometers from Basum Lake, with an altitude of about 3600 meters. The 3-kilometer experience is quite friendly to hiking beginners, with picturesque scenery along the way, babbling streams, and yaks, horses, and Tibetan pigs appearing from time to time. Walking through the forest, the scenery along the way brings you a visual feast of deep nature. However, before that, you need to endure about 2 hours of bumpy road. Although, but!! If you persist until the last moment, you will find that everything is worth it.

Xin Cuo - A serene place where you can hear your own heartbeat
Step by step, we have come to Xin Cuo, a nearly pristine holy lake.
Around the holy lake, a small village, a few herding families, and a dozen yaks.
The grassland under your feet, the blue sky above your head, the Tibetan tents nearby and the snow-capped mountains in the distance, a series of oil paintings are presented before your eyes.
The most intoxicating thing for me is the pristine nature and simple people here, and the silence that can only be broken by a few bird calls.
Here I really heard my heartbeat! If you don't believe it, you can try it too...

The Songzan Basongtso Linka Hotel is just too photogenic
The Songzan Basongtso Linka Hotel is just too photogenic, including dining and accommodation experiences.
I stayed at the Songzan Basongtso Linka Hotel for two nights. I arrived at the hotel around six o'clock in the afternoon on the first day, where the welcome staff presented us with Hada and highland barley wine. After checking in, I went back to my room to take a few quick photos before heading to the backyard by the lake to build a Mani stone pile.
The next day was sunny, and in the morning, I went hiking at New Tso, followed by a visit to the Cuo Gao village. I got back to the hotel quite early and took more photos inside the hotel, where every step revealed a beautiful scene. In the evening, I even saw the golden rays of the sunset on the mountain.
Regarding dining, the breakfast options were quite diverse, similar to other Songzan hotels. For dinner on the first day, I had stir-fried dishes, which were mediocre in taste. I ordered twice-cooked pork with pickled vegetables, which was expensive and not tasty, with the pork being too fatty. The beef buns were good, with a crispy crust and quite delicious. On the second night, I had a sauerkraut pork knuckle hotpot, which was fairly tasty, and the portion was so large that two people couldn't finish it. The highland barley cake with honey was also quite delicious. See photos 13, 14.
Regarding the room, the location was excellent, with a view of the snow-capped mountains from inside the room. There was a projector in the room, which was nice for watching shows at night. The only downside was that the toilet took too long to refill after flushing.
Other amenities included a free nightly bedtime drink, similar to other Songzan hotels. There was also a free afternoon tea available every day from two to four-thirty.
Songzan Basongtso Linka Check-in at the tenth Songzan Hotel
At an altitude of 3480m, it is located in the historic Jieba Village, where villagers still retain the living traditions of the Gongbo Tibetan people.
The hotel is adjacent to the Basongtso Lake, where the emerald-like waters reflect snow-capped mountains, forests, glaciers, and grasslands. The varying shades of green ripple out, connecting with the sky and distant mountains.
If you come to Tibet, be sure to stay a night at the Songtsam Hotel
Our stay at the Songtsam Basongtso Linka Hotel, located in Jieba Village within the Basongtso scenic area, was very enjoyable from the first experience; unfortunately, when we later went to Suosong Village, we were short on funds and only had a meal at the Songtsam Namchabarwa store, without the chance to stay.
The environment: The hotel is secluded in its own corner, with an excellent viewing spot just out the back door, offering a more beautiful angle than the central scenic area of Basongtso Lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
The facilities: It has the feel of a resort, with full-length sliding glass doors that can be opened, wooden furniture decorations, and room locks made of copper keys, which are very tactile.
Breakfast: The variety is not particularly rich, but it is very tasty.
Service: One thing I really like about Songtsam is the staff's sense of pride and identification with Songtsam's corporate culture. The gentleman who received us at the front desk introduced us to Songtsam's philosophy and culture. He has worked in five Songtsam hotels and his love for the company was evident when he spoke about Songtsam. A hotel that can truly win the hearts of its employees makes us involuntarily full of good feelings towards Songtsam.
Our butler, Zhaxi Yangzong, was a young girl who looked even younger than us, but she was very attentive from check-in, dining, to check-out
The shuttle bus boy is always enthusiastic and smiling, with timely service.
All the staff are very good👍
The snow view of Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel is the ceiling of the wild luxury hotel
This is my second stay at the Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel in Tibet's 5A scenic area. The hotel is located next to a lake where the snow from the sacred mountain called Burning Flame and Throne melts. Basongcuo is a sacred lake in the hearts of Tibetans. The emerald-like lake reflects the snow mountain. Even in the cold winter, the sacred lake of Basongcuo does not freeze, and the snow mountain is even more beautiful and majestic. The Senpu glacier grassland also nourishes the beautiful village.
The Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel, which started trial operation in July 23 years ago, is the latest hotel opened by Songzan. It took 8 years to build. In the series of Songzan hotels, the hotels called Linka are larger in area, have more rooms, and have more complete facilities. The Tibetan word for Linka means a family picnic.
Just like the Songzan Linka Hotel in Shangri-La, Songzan Basongcuo Linka has more than 130 rooms and suites. The facilities are very complete, including outdoor swimming pool, gym, western restaurant, coffee shop, bar, boutique shop, outdoor camp, etc.
Because the Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel is located in the Basongcuo scenic area, no matter whether you are in the room or in the hotel lobby, restaurant, or by the pool, you can see the full view. On the second day of our stay, it started to snow. When we got up the next morning, the whole hotel was covered with snow, which was very beautiful.
The hotel is new and has very complete facilities. The breakfast is very rich, and there are many choices for lunch and dinner. It can be said to be a food paradise. In addition, this time the hotel arranged for us to go to the new scenic area for forest hiking and shooting experience in Zalagou scenic area. The hotel can also experience off-road electric motorcycles, which feels super cool. I will introduce it later.
In short, the Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel in winter is definitely the ceiling of the snow view wild luxury hotel. Every shot is a big picture...

Nyingchi: A Peach Blossom Paradise on the Snowy Plateau
Nyingchi is known as the 'Jiangnan of Tibet', hiding more than 500 acres of the world's largest wild peach blossom colony, stretching along the Nyang River all the way to the snow-capped mountains of Nyingchi, a pink sea of flowers that extends for hundreds of miles!

Tibet is back, travel guide for the Linzhi Lai Gu line
🏆Route section:
The first day: Depart from Lhasa → Niyang River Wetland Fairyland → Magnificent spectacle of Namjagbarwa Peak → Arrive at Suosong Village (For friends who suffer from altitude sickness on higher altitude sections, please prepare glucose or corresponding medicines in advance. The accommodation experience in Suosong Village is decent, not as luxurious as in the city, but has its own charm. Pay attention to keeping warm in winter and avoid bathing to prevent catching a cold! Thermometer💪Glacier medicine box)
The second day: Explore the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon → Check in at the Buddha Palm Sand Dune (The backstory is very interesting, a good place for taking photos, the scenery is relatively ordinary but still a sight to see) → Leisurely travel to Bomi
The third day: Depart from Bomi → Ranwu Lake like a poetic painting → Visit the mysterious and spectacular Laigu Glacier (Getting up early is wise, as the wind gets stronger and colder after noon, you can choose to ride a horse or hike for the adventure, Laigu Glacier is definitely a visual feast! Snowy mountains and glaciers🐎)
The fourth day: Depart from Bomi again → Pass by the tranquil hometown lake → Challenge the 4700 meters high Sejila Mountain (Occasionally encounter cute monkeys on the mountain top, remember to bring some snacks to feed them; if you encounter a snowy landscape, it is an excellent opportunity for photography, and with great luck, you may even have a distant view of Namjagbarwa Peak! Snowy mountains monkey group snowflakes❄️)
The fifth day: Depart from Linzhi → Enjoy a trip to Basong Lake (Regrettably did not reach the new lake, which is hidden deep in Basong Lake, requiring another hour's drive, the ticket is free, only a 10 yuan sanitation fee is charged, you can walk or ride a motorcycle, immerse yourself in the fresh air and lush greenery, forest oxygen bar🌿)
🌡️Temperature tip: The temperature in February is still acceptable, except for the Laigu Glacier which is colder, other places are fine to cope with.
🌸March Peach Blossom Festival reminder: Friends who go to Linzhi to enjoy the Peach Blossom Festival in March, please note that the cost may be slightly higher, the leader revealed that accommodation is extremely tight, be sure to book hotels in advance. On 3.26, the Holy Elephant Gate will open, each season has its beauty, and the scenery along the way is also a captivating painting!
🚗Travel method suggestion: If you have companions and sufficient time, it is recommended to charter a car or self-drive to enjoy the scenery along the way at your own pace, stopping wherever you like.
About altitude sickness: Although I do not suffer from altitude sickness, for companions who do, it is a good choice to prepare glucose and adapt in Lhasa for two days. For minor discomfort, there is no need to rush to oxygen, consider oxygen only if really uncomfortable, and you can go to the hospital to get related medicines. Do not bathe, drink alcohol, or go clubbing upon first arriving in Lhasa, maintain sufficient good sleep, which helps to better adapt to the altitude sickness environment.
💕Solo travelers need not worry, you will surely encounter many like-minded new friends on the journey. Wishing every traveler a pleasant and unforgettable trip to Tibet! Encounter beauty🌈
Nyingchi: A Peach Blossom Paradise on the Snowy Plateau
In the distant snowy plateau, there is a land blessed by the heavens, which is Nyingchi, Tibet, a place full of mystery and vitality. Nyingchi, known as the 'Jiangnan of Tibet', is praised for its clear mountains and rivers, mild climate, and distinct seasons, making it more like a magical oasis compared to other regions of Tibet.
In spring, when the peach blossoms are in full bloom, Nyingchi turns into a pink ocean. The beautiful scenery of the blooming peach blossoms not only attracts thousands of tourists but has also captivated countless poets and scholars. The great Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu once dreamed of the peach blossoms of Nyingchi in his poems, and though he never set foot there, his heart had already taken flight. Here, every peach blossom seems to tell an ancient tale, narrating the changes of history.
Nyingchi is not only enchanting for its natural landscapes but is also one of the important birthplaces of Tibetan culture. The legendary stories of Pangu creating the world and Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs have left deep marks here. The predecessor of the Potala Palace, Tsongzanlin Monastery, is located here, witnessing the prosperity and development of Tibetan culture. Walking through the streets and alleys of Nyingchi, one can feel the strong religious atmosphere and ethnic characteristics everywhere. Every temple, every prayer flag, and every scripture speaks of the devotion to faith.
The natural beauty of Nyingchi is even more astonishing. The Yarlung Tsangpo River meanders here, with undulating mountains and swirling clouds, resembling a natural ink painting. Along the Nyang River, wildflowers are everywhere, the grass is green, and yaks and sheep graze leisurely by the river, presenting a peaceful and harmonious pastoral life. Every scene here is like a painting meticulously arranged by nature, bringing peace of mind and making one forget the troubles of the world.

Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Yarlung Zangbo, you are in the middle of autumn. With a total length of 504.6 kilometers and an average depth of 2268 meters, the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is the world's largest canyon. It is known as the "last human myth" and is regarded by scientists as "the keyhole that opens the door to the history of the earth." In the Tibetan language, Yaru refers to the sky from the sky. The autumn colors of
Yaluzang are very charming. Every year in late October, the golden and dark green leaves are intertwined, like a painting that attracts many photographers.
Today's weather is not ideal. After an afternoon, although I can't see the whole picture of Mount Kinabalu, I can still see the main peak of Mount Nanga Bawa. Waiting, just because it is worth it.
The Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world, is called the last secret on the earth. It has both the harsh and cold of the Himalayas and the warmth of the Amazon River. When you visit the Grand Canyon with the scenic car, you will arrive first. In the Love Square, you can see that the distant Nanjia Bawa Peak is like a shy girl who is finally unveiled, and the huge triangular peaks are clearly visible. The height of 7782 meters in Nanga Bawa is also proud of the world. Geographers like to analyze the peculiarity of Nanga Bawa from a scientific point of view. The Tibetans think it is a holy place and call it "the mountain." "As a general tourist, I just sigh for the beauty of its masculine beauty. The peaks of the triangle are vigorous and powerful, and the king is demeanor."
The Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is the formation of the Himalayas movement and the rushing of the river. After passing through two high valleys at an altitude of over 6,000 meters, it forms a peculiar U-shaped turn around the Nanga Bawa Peak, and the American branch. The Grand Canyon is exactly the same, but it is longer and deeper.
[Tips]
Transportation and tickets: The scenic spot is very large and there is no public transportation. So if you want to visit the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, you can only participate in the tour or chartered car. You can usually travel in Lhasa or Linzhi. The group, the group price generally includes tickets.
Diet: There are restaurants in the scenic spot, most of them are opened by Sichuanese. The taste is not bad
Note: Although the altitude is not too high, about 2880 meters, but after all, it is a plateau area, pay attention to high anti.
Tibet Travelogue (2) —— Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon in Nyingchi
After breakfast, we drove the rented Tank 300 from Lhasa to Sosong Village in Milin County, Nyingchi City, about 480 kilometers away. Soon we got on the Lalin Expressway without passing through a toll station, which was quite unexpected. Later, we learned that expressways in Tibet are free of charge. The first stop was the Ganden Monastery service area, where the surrounding mountains were covered with snow and white clouds floated in the blue sky. Many vehicles were queuing up for fuel in the service area. Our car needed fuel too, but not wanting to queue for a long time, we decided to refuel at the next service area. With snow-capped mountains ahead and continuous snow mountains on both sides, we couldn't contain our excitement and kept taking photos and videos to record the beautiful scenery along the way. However, when we passed through the Riduo, Bangjietang, and Gacai service areas without finding fuel services, we started to worry. A search on the phone revealed that the next refueling spot was the Gongbujangda service area, 115 kilometers ahead, meaning there were no gas stations within 227 kilometers from the Ganden Monastery service area to the Gongbujangda service area. Looking at the fuel gauge, the car could still travel 26 kilometers. Fortunately, we found a gas station in Jinda Town, Gongbujangda County, 28 kilometers away, so we turned onto Highway 318 and prepared ourselves mentally to push the car for 2 kilometers if necessary. We drove at a steady speed and finally reached the Jinda gas station without having to push the car. From this, we learned a lesson to always keep the fuel tank full.
With the tank filled, the Tank 300 became cheerful again. The Lalin Expressway connected to the Milin Airport Expressway and descended along the Niyang River, soon reaching the confluence of the Niyang River and the Yarlung Tsangpo River. The vast sandy beach was crisscrossed with river bends, presumably due to the low water level at the turn of spring and summer, which must present a completely different scene after the rainy season. This area belongs to Pai Town in Milin County, Nyingchi City, at an altitude of about 3,000 meters, about 600 meters lower than Lhasa, with a noticeably different climate. The mountains on both sides of the Yarlung Tsangpo River were lush and green, with attractive landscapes tempting us to stop and admire, but time did not permit. After driving about 60 kilometers, we reached the bridge next to Pai Town, where a checkpoint stopped us — it was the entrance to the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon scenic area. The Sosong Village we were heading to was just 7 kilometers ahead. To enter the village, each person had to buy a ticket for 150 yuan, with a half-price discount for those over 60.
In Sosong Village, we stayed at the Watch 7782 Inn, where we were received by a girl from Shanghai, apparently one of the owners. The number 7782 represents the altitude of Mount Namjagbarwa, showing the owners' affection for the peak or their insight into business opportunities. Before it got dark, we walked to the river to enjoy the view. Walking downstream, outside the village along the river was a large green field with net fences. About 1 kilometer ahead, there was an observation deck where we saw the Yarlung Tsangpo River winding through the canyon. The river breeze was strong, and the prayer flags tied to the railings fluttered loudly, along with a sign that read '318 Route, must drive in this life' trembling in the wind. At that moment, there were few tourists, but three barbecue stall owners were still waiting under the simple shacks. In the green field by the river, prayer flags fluttered on a prominent hilltop, where people intermittently went to listen to the wind, watch the water, and take photos with the snow-capped mountains. The revered Mount Namjagbarwa, however, was shrouded in thick clouds and did not show itself. As it got darker, a light rain began to fall.
The innkeeper started a Tibetan-style stove in the hall, and the thick logs burned inside. Sitting by the stove, the chill on our bodies gradually dissipated, and chatting with the owner and his friends added a touch of comfort. After a hearty meal, we slept until dawn. From the rooftop of the inn, we saw clouds forming in the canyon, drifting between the mountains, with nearby snow peaks appearing and disappearing above the clouds, while Mount Namjagbarwa remained hidden in the mist. We stood by the river, gazing in the direction of Mount Namjagbarwa for a long time, hoping for the wind to clear the clouds and reveal the snow peak. An hour passed, and the peak was still locked in thick clouds. However, if it were easy to catch a glimpse of, it wouldn't be Mount Namjagbarwa.
After breakfast, we drove downstream, traveling on the mountainside with steep peaks on one side and a deep canyon on the other. The narrow road made us hesitant to stop, fearing oncoming traffic. After driving 8 kilometers, we veered away from the Yarlung Tsangpo River canyon and reached a wide valley. The fields harvested last year were waiting to be plowed again, yaks dotted the base of the mountains searching for food, the forest was lush halfway up the mountain, and the mountaintops were crowned with white snow. The air was moist and fresh, and there was a village called Dalin Village. If one had no concerns for fame, fortune, or official duties, wouldn't this be an idyllic retreat for a peaceful life? Our car turned right at the head of the village and returned to the edge of the canyon. We drove down through a forest that blocked the sun and gradually approached the river, where we stopped where several cars were parked. According to the map, crossing the river would take us to Zhibai Village, but the reinforced concrete Dalin Bridge over the river had collapsed some time ago, which was frustrating. Whether it was a shoddy construction project or a once-in-a-millennium flood was unknown.
At noon, the weather gradually cleared up, and we eagerly awaited the emergence of Mount Namjagbarwa from the clouds. Although it did not happen as we hoped, we were still very satisfied as we bid farewell to Sosong Village. On the way, we saw the Buddha Palm Sand Dune in Danang Township, Milin County, across the river. On the return trip, following the right bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo River upstream, we got close to the sand dune. The dune was several tens of meters high and covered several hectares. After buying a ticket, one could slide down the sand for fun. We were not interested in this, but marveled at this masterpiece of wind and sand, the wonders of nature are truly unimaginable.
When we passed through Qiangna Township in Milin County, we stumbled upon a monastery and learned that it was Qiangna Monastery, founded in the 15th century. It had been destroyed twice by earthquakes and was relocated to its current location in 1956. The incense at Qiangna Monastery was not very strong, the central prayer flag pole was still bare, and the main hall door was locked. A young couple entered the monastery and found a monk to open the door. They worshipped devoutly in the main hall, sincere and reverent, and even brought back holy water from the monastery for their elderly family members. The religious faith of Tibetans is rooted from childhood, deeply ingrained by youth, and unwavering in old age. Thanks to the young couple, we were able to enter the hall for a look. The main Buddha in the hall was a child image of Jampa Buddha, and in the corner, there was an embroidered silk banner with Chairman Mao Zedong's handwritten inscription, which read 'All ethnic groups of the People's Republic of China unite'. Tibetan Buddhism does not have a vegetarian precept, so it is common for monasteries to keep chickens, but what was unusual was that the chickens in Qiangna Monastery rested in trees.
Leaving Qiangna Monastery, after passing the confluence of the Niyang River and the Yarlung Tsangpo River, we drove through a culvert to the river beach and touched the cold water of the Yarlung Tsangpo River with our own hands. The sky became overcast, and we navigated to the Grand Canyon Hotel in Bayi Town, Baxoi District, Nyingchi, via Gangpai Road, Milin Airport Expressway, and Lalin Expressway, covering a distance of about 50 kilometers. We passed through the Yak Square on the Welcome Avenue in Nyingchi City. It was a square on a central roundabout with a group of huge yak stone sculptures, which were quickly out of sight.
