I visited Tomonoura, a nostalgic port town in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, in search of beautiful scenery😊 This port town, which has been used as a location for movies and dramas, is as beautiful as rumored, and I was continuously moved☺️ The Joyato (photos 2 and 8) is the symbol of this port town. This is a 220-year-old townhouse in Tomonoura. It is a historic location that was used by Sakamoto Ryoma as the place for negotiations over the "Iroha Maru Incident." However, it became vacant and was at risk of being demolished, but with the cooperation of local residents, including director Miyazaki Hayao, it was renovated into a lodging and restaurant in 2010. Lol-I went to Tomonoura, where the "Tomo Town Doll Festival" is being held until March 24th🎎 During the period, about 100 townhouses, merchant houses, and temples will be exhibiting a variety of precious and rare Hina dolls, including gorgeous seven-tiered decorations from the Edo period, large-scale and elaborate palace decorations from the Meiji period, Oshie Hina dolls, Tachi Hina dolls, and Nagashi Hina dolls. Tomonoura, also known as "the most relaxing port town in Japan," is a port town with a nostalgic atmosphere that was the setting for Ponyo on the Cliff. It was my first time visiting during Hinamatsuri, but the whole town was lively and I was able to see various Hina dolls of different sizes and eras everywhere I went. Everything has a sense of history, from personal collections to those borrowed from local people only for this period, to those left in town houses. Some places have an entrance fee, while others are free to enter and exit. The streets here are complicated, and some parts are quite maze-like for me, who has no sense of direction (lol), but it's quite fun to just rely on your senses and walk around, stopping at various shops and having casual conversations with the shopkeepers. If you go to a cafe or take your time looking around, 3-4 hours will easily pass! The sprawling temple complex, dating back to A.D. 940, greeted me with its majestic structures, intricate statues, and revered sacred objects. As I wandered through the grounds, I felt a profound sense of reverence and awe, surrounded by the spiritual aura of the place. Each step seemed to unveil a new layer of its hidden treasures, inviting me on a sacred treasure hunt through time. The ancient architecture whispered stories of devotion, resilience, and cultural richness, echoing through the corridors of the temple. From the impressive pagoda to the serene gardens, every corner held a piece of history waiting to be discovered. Naritasan Shinshoji Temple truly stood as a testament to the enduring legacy of Japanese spirituality and craftsmanship.

#2024wish I went there for the first time in several years. Although the admission fee has gone up a bit, it's still quite cheap compared to other zoos, and it's a good idea if it's free for junior high school students and younger and those over 65. The sense of scale is just right for entertaining small children. The animals themselves are almost the same as they were in the past, and I felt that the number of individuals has actually decreased. I want to visit this place again in 2024.

Most people go to Hiroshima memorial park to see the history of the Second World War and how Japan was affected at that time. Of course that’s an important place to visit. What’s surprising is, right next to the memorial park there is a touristy centre with lots of local delicacies (both in restaurants and souvenir shops) - its famous oysters are really no disappointment- I had the best cooked oyster ever ! Its raw oysters were also good, but I just never had such fat and juicy well-cooked oysters before! The size didn’t shrink after they were cooked, and the little salty taste of the sea water was still there. It is also famous for its charcoal grilles leeks and lemons - so don’t leave without trying a leek dish and a fresh lemonade! 🍋 #hiroshima #oysters #japan
