Nujiang Gorge Tour (3) - Stone Moon.
The Stone Moon in Nujiang Gorge is a natural wonder located in Shiyueliang Township, Fugong County, Nujiang Prefecture. On the top of a mountain in the Gaoligong Mountains on the west bank of the Nujiang River, there is a large round cave with an altitude of over 3,200 meters. The blue sky and white clouds can be seen through the cave, and on a clear day, the white clouds behind the cave look like a bright moon, hence the name.
The Stone Moon is easy to see from afar but difficult to see up close. It can be seen from many places along the G219 National Highway in Shiyueliang Township. Getting close to the Stone Moon Mountain is not easy. First, drive across the suspension bridge and then drive up the winding mountain road for about half an hour. You need good driving skills and courage, as many of the sharp turns are smaller than the turning radius of a car, so you need to reverse the car before turning.
The end of the road is a mountain pass halfway up the mountain, with a few houses on one side and a row of climbers' cars parked on the side of the road. It is already far above the Nujiang River, but the Stone Moon is still not visible. There is a stone staircase leading to the Stone Moon. According to others, it takes four hours to reach the Stone Moon on foot. It was already past 2 pm, and we walked for two hours without seeing the Stone Moon, so we had to give up, or we wouldn't be able to get down the mountain before dark.
Yunnan Nujiang Prefecture Yaping Ancient Road.
A real primitive forest hike, a biodiversity conservation area.
Moss, ancient trees, vines, giant ferns, mushrooms, etc., there is too much to see.
A local guide is required, and it is impossible to walk without a guide.
Yaping Village is close to the China-Myanmar border, and it is located on the way to the border.
We are the hiking activity of Songzan Stone Moon, and the hotel arranges a driver guide.
There is only one highway, called the Yaping Border Trade Line. The mountain road winds up, and the highway is still being repaired from time to time.
There is actually no entrance or exit in the hiking area, just a small mountain road known to locals.
The hiking route feels customized, and there are actually many ways to walk.
The local guide took us on a relatively simple route.
Part of it has traces of stone roads, and part of it requires hands and feet.
The vegetation is dense like a tropical rainforest, with various vines, ancient trees and ferns intertwined, and the experience is quite magical.

The Nujiang Stone Moon is older than Mount Everest!
Over 500 million years ago, an ancient layer of rock formed on the seabed rose from the sea due to crustal movement. It continued to rise and eventually became the Gaoligong Mountains. In Fugong County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, there is a protrusion that has been weathered to form a cave about 40 meters wide and 60 meters high. From an aerial perspective, the cave stands tall in the Gaoligong Mountains. The local Lisu people call it "Yahaba", which means "Stone Moon". It is like a "full moon" high in the sky. The Lisu people regard the Stone Moon as a sacred stone. Famous geologist Fei Xuan said: If the Nujiang "Stone Moon" is considered a sister, Mount Everest can only be considered her younger brother, because the Himalayas were formed only about 40 million years ago.
I love Nujiang.
When taking photos, I didn't realize how unforgettable some scenes were. But when I got home and looked through my phone out of boredom, I saw these moments that had become memories and realized their uniqueness and irreplaceability. There might not be another chance to visit this place again, or if I do, things might have changed. The sincere faces in these landscapes might be a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Photos compensate for the fading of memories. Regret and helplessness are part of life. When I learned to observe calmly, I also found that they each have their own value.
City of Memory, Zhiziluo, Fugong, Yunnan
📍Attraction Address: Laomudeng Zhiziluo, under the jurisdiction of Pihe Nu Ethnic Township, Fugong County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is located on the ridge of Biluo Snow Mountain at an altitude of 2023 meters. From Liuku in Nujiang Prefecture, head north along the Nujiang Highway to Fugong. After passing Pihe Township, go forward for another 2 kilometers, turn into a side road on the right, and follow this road to reach.
🚗Transportation to the Attraction:
Driving is more convenient. Generally, after visiting Fugong and Laomudeng, you can conveniently reach Zhiziluo. There is a square for parking, which is very convenient, and you can also park on the sides of the road.
If you hike 🚶♀️ from Laomudeng to Zhiziluo, it takes about an hour. Public transportation is basically unavailable to the abandoned city.
👍️Must-visit Attractions:
Zhiziluo Village has multiple sightseeing and hiking routes, distributed in the left, middle, and right old building districts, interconnected. ✨The village retains many old buildings from the 1970s and 1980s, such as government office buildings, military barracks, Xinhua Bookstore, Transportation Bureau, stadium, etc. These buildings with blue bricks and white walls are full of the characteristics of the era, making you feel like you are back in the past, with time frozen. In the deserted old districts, you can capture the traces of time and the sediment of history, which is a very unique experience. ✨The entire village is located on a high-altitude ridge, offering good views. From the observation deck in the village, you can look far at Crown Mountain, overlook the Nujiang Gorge, and enjoy the magnificent scenery of the mountains and gorges, as well as the spectacle of clouds rising and drifting from the gorge.
🎟️Ticket Information: The attraction is free, parking is free
💗Other Tips: A Brief History of Zhiziluo Village
More than a thousand years ago, a branch of the Diqiang tribe, the Wuman tribe, crossed the Biluo Snow Mountain from the Lancang River and reached Zhiziluo above the Nujiang River to thrive. They called themselves "Nusu," the origin of the Nu people in Bijiang. In the past, it took only one day to travel from the ancient Nanzhao Kingdom (now Dali) through Zhiziluo, over the Biluo Snow Mountain, and to Gaoligong Mountain to enter Myanmar. Therefore, Zhiziluo became an important post and market on the ancient Tea Horse Road.
In 1912, the local government of Yunnan sent the Nuqiu Frontier Colonization Team to station here and established the Zhiziluo Frontier Colonization Office. In 1916, it was changed to the Zhiziluo Administrative Committee Office, and in 1932, it was changed to the Bijiang Administration Bureau. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, this place once became the core city of the Nujiang River Basin. The Nujiang Prefecture Government and the Bijiang County Government were both located here, making it the most prosperous political and economic center of Nujiang Prefecture. In 1974, the prefecture government moved to Liuku Town, and Zhiziluo was under the jurisdiction of Bijiang County and was designated as the county seat. In 1986, Bijiang County was abolished, and Zhiziluo was downgraded from the prefecture seat to a village.
In the 1970s and 1980s, geological experts discovered that the terrain of Biluo Snow Mountain behind Zhiziluo was not flat and was on a large landslide body. The geological conditions of the snow mountain itself were unstable. Once the terrain of the snow mountain changed, it could trigger severe landslides, mudslides, and other geological disasters, posing a danger to the residents. After this news was announced, people chose to move out for safety.
Many years have passed, and the predicted geological disasters have not occurred. A small number of people have begun to re-enter the village. The well-preserved Zhiziluo Village is a rare gem, not to be missed on a self-driving tour in Yunnan.
Seeking Coolness on a Summer Road Trip to Northwestern Yunnan | Friendship between Shanghai and Fugong County
Fugong County is paired with Shanghai. One of my friends just returned from teaching at Fugong No. 1 Middle School this year and has always wanted to visit Fugong. This time, we finally made it, and it was absolutely worth it. 👍
⛳ Self-driving route: Lushui City > Laomudeng Village, Fugong County
🚘 Mileage: 143KM on National Highway 219
♒ Altitude: 1800M
💧 Temperature: 21-30 degrees
👚 Dress code: Short sleeves
📍 Must-visit spots
1️⃣ Dengeng Bathhouse: Dengeng Bathhouse is located by the Nujiang River in Lushui. Within a 200-meter stretch of the riverbank, there are 18 hot springs of various sizes. The Lisu people hold a 'Bathhouse Festival' at Dengeng during their Kuoshi Festival (equivalent to the Han Chinese New Year), believing that bathing in the hot springs during these days will keep them healthy for the year. Unfortunately, we visited during the rainy season, and the high water level of the Nujiang River made it hard to find. 😹
2️⃣ Tiger Leaping Gorge: You can walk along the riverside boardwalk to the platform. The roaring Nujiang River is thunderous and turbulent, rushing down with great force, which is quite spectacular. 🌪
3️⃣ Zhiziluo (to be written in the next part)
4️⃣ Laomudeng Nu Village (to be written in the next part)
‼️ Recommended items: There is a small shop on the main street of Zhiziluo. When we passed by, we saw them peeling fresh walnuts from the mountains. We roasted them at home, and they were so fragrant that we regretted not buying more. 💯
🛏 Accommodation recommendation
Laomudeng Shangri-La Homestay, located at the highest point in the village. From the balcony, you can see Crown Mountain. There is a large platform on the third floor where you can enjoy the cool evening breeze. In the distance, the Nujiang River flows through the valleys of Biluo Snow Mountain and Gaoligong Mountain. The changing clouds, the sunset over Crown Mountain, the twinkling lights of the small mountain village, and a few old friends make for a beautiful moment. 😊 Paired with the phrase on the platform, 'Love this world with you,' it's perfect. 🌈
Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture - A Hidden Gem in Western Yunnan
Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture is located in the western part of Yunnan Province, within the Nujiang Gorge of the Hengduan Mountains, bordering Myanmar to the west. G219 serves as the main (and perhaps the only) transportation route running north-south through the prefecture. The road conditions on the Nujiang section of G219 are excellent, but as you continue from Bingzhongluo Town towards Chayu County in Nyingchi City, the road conditions suddenly deteriorate, turning into the famous 'Bingcha-Cha' crossing route.
Our trip focused on Nujiang Prefecture and was conducted in winter. Daytime temperatures in the dry-hot valley can exceed 20 degrees Celsius, but nighttime temperatures are low, so be sure to adjust your clothing accordingly.
The Nu River is majestic and grand during the summer flood season, while in winter, it shows a quieter side. Without the influx of rainwater carrying sediment, the quiet waters of the Nu River in winter reveal a rare blue color, like a gemstone.
Not far into Nujiang Prefecture, you will reach the capital, Lushui City. The county town is built along the Nujiang Gorge, with a narrow and long structure. The local economy is not highly developed, and the roads in the town are narrow with compact houses due to the terrain.
Less than an hour's drive from Lushui City, you can reach Dengeng Bathhouse. Dengeng Bathhouse is a free natural hot spring located by the Nu River. During the flood season, the rising waters of the Nu River submerge it, while in the dry season, it emerges. Many local Nu and Lisu people enjoy soaking in the hot spring and are very enthusiastic about introducing the area to visitors. The hot spring is highly recommended.
Near the hot spring, you can also experience the Nu River zip line, a paid activity developed by local villagers. The zip line is a traditional way for locals to cross the river before bridges were built. A round trip costs 50 yuan and is quite thrilling.
Heading upstream along G219, you can stay in Laomudeng Village. It is recommended to stay in a high-altitude guesthouse to enjoy views of the Nujiang Gorge, Crown Mountain, and even the perennial snow on Gaoligong Mountain. The local people are simple and honest, and prices are not high. The guesthouse owner where we stayed was a Nu girl who was very hospitable and cooked delicious traditional local food.
Further up from Laomudeng Village is the former capital of Nujiang Prefecture, the lost town of Zhiziluo. Zhiziluo was once a major transportation hub connecting Nujiang Prefecture with the outside world, with frequent trade and gradual development. However, due to geological factors, all residents moved to Lushui City, leaving behind an empty town that still retains the appearance of the last century.
Continuing south, you will pass Shiyueliang. Shiyueliang is a rock formation with a large circular hole in the middle, formed by erosion. Later, the mountain body uplifted, pushing it to the top of the mountain, resembling a full moon. You can view it from a viewing platform beside G219, and you should also be able to climb up if you enter the scenic area.
The innermost part of Nujiang Prefecture is the famous Bingzhongluo Township. Overlooking from the viewing platform, it is indeed a place where immortals reside. The houses on the dam are scattered, with snow-capped mountains above and the rushing Nu River below. Occasionally, you can hear the crowing of roosters and barking of dogs, with smoke curling up from the rooftops, presenting a peaceful scene. The first bend of the Nu River is also spectacular, and it is recommended to go to the viewing platform on the mountain top, which all the guesthouse owners know how to reach.
Crossing the Nujiang Gorge to the west, you can reach Dulongjiang Township. If you are lucky, you may see tattooed women, but the road conditions are poor, and you need to make a reservation to enter.
Precautions:
1. Driving in the valley, be cautious of falling rocks on cliffside roads.
2. There are many blind turns, so slow down and drive carefully.
3. Adjust your clothing in a timely manner.
4. Respect religious beliefs. French missionaries preached in Nujiang Prefecture in the last century, and there are churches and a certain number of Christians in the area (such as in Laomudeng). After passing Bingzhongluo, you will soon enter the Tibetan area, where Tibetan Buddhism also appears as you go further in.
Canyon Mystery - Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Residence
🛏【Hotel Guide】
📍Detailed address: Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Residence, Aluodi Chisa Village, Lumadeng Township, Fugong County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province
🚗Transportation Guide: About 280 kilometers from Baoshan Cloud Airport, approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes by car; about 405 kilometers from Dali Fengyi Airport, approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes by car
🌟Highlights: Canyon hotel
⛱Hotel environment: Above the canyon, Nujiang River flows
💰Average consumption: 1688 yuan/room
📌Little Tips:
As the first canyon hotel of Songzan, 'Standing above the sea of clouds, on the top of the cliff, away from the hustle and bustle', it brings the ultimate canyon landscape and a comfortable vacation experience.
From any room in the hotel looking north, you can see a perpetual bright moon hanging in the distant mountains, which is the sacred 'Stone Moon' in the hearts of the Lisu people.
Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Residence is a typical mountain architecture, with a settlement-style layout that follows the mountain's shape, arranged in an orderly fashion.
Staying at Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Residence is like hiding in a secluded sanctuary in the canyon, where the weariness of the journey is washed away.
Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Residence has a total of 55 guest rooms, including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, two-bedroom deluxe suites, and four-bedroom deluxe suites, all facing the Nujiang Grand Canyon.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the bedding customized by King Koil for Songzan, each room is also equipped with B&O portable Bluetooth speakers, TV, and other leisure items, and some rooms are equipped with coffee machines.
Bars, SPA, gym, multi-function hall, boutique and other functional areas expand the experience of the resort hotel. The infinity pool with a panoramic view of the canyon reflects the ever-changing sky and clouds.
Breathing meditation, tea garden strolls, and other local experiences enrich the long vacation on top of the sea of clouds.
The Sanjiang River basin is rich in products, and precious ingredients are also abundant. The culinary team of the mountain residence uses local specialties such as truffles, matsutake, tsao-ko, and lacquer oil to carefully prepare unique Western Yunnan creative fusion dishes.
In a slightly tipsy moment, play billiards in the Kunica bar, listen to a small concert, watch an open-air movie under the stars. As dusk falls, the quiet canyon night will also be full of fun.
Let's head to the mountains this summer
It's a one and a half hour journey to Yaping, where you can see snow-capped mountains, meadows, and blooming rhododendrons. Especially when you reach the top of the mountain, you can see the spread of a mountain range. Just 18km away, you can reach the China-Myanmar border park. The presence of this mountain range blocks the moisture coming from the southwest.
Along the way, you can see many waterfalls, and if the weather is good, the sunlight is incredibly beautiful in Yaping village.
Deep in the Canyon|From Shiyueliang to Bingzhongluo.
From Shiyueliang to Bingzhongluo. Fortunately, the beautiful Nujiang Highway, which is the Nujiang section of the new National Highway 219, connects Bingzhongluo with the upstream and downstream destinations of the river. The road to Bingzhongluo has never been so smooth.
Starting from Baoshan, a major town in western Yunnan, and heading upstream along the Nujiang Grand Canyon, the Gaoligong Mountains that accompany you all the way become increasingly magnificent.
Awakening from the amazement of the 'high mountains and deep valleys,' a moon that will never set has already risen on the horizon—Shiyueliang Viewing Platform, a marble perforation on the cliff.
It stands guard at an altitude of more than 3,300 meters in the Gaoligong Mountains, looming in the mist, waxing and waning with the distance.
Shiyueliang is also a sacred place for the main ethnic group of Nujiang, the Lisu people. They believe that during the ancient great flood, their ancestors drew their bows and shot the Shiyueliang from the top of the mountains, causing the flood to recede.
Since then, the Lisu people have had a home to settle down, and later generations respectfully call Shiyueliang the 'Root of the Lisu.'
Regardless of the truth of such a Genesis-like legend, the majestic Gaoligong Mountains are indeed a sanctuary for countless living beings.
In the many days of exploring Shiyueliang, you can follow Songtsam into the hidden Yapin Nature Reserve, strolling through the primeval forests of the Gaoligong Mountains.
Yapin, meaning 'cliff' in Lisu language, is rarely visited, mysterious, and serene, with 'four seasons in one mountain, different weather every ten miles.' While encountering the four seasons of Nujiang, countless rare flora and fauna await your discovery.
You can also visit Laomudeng, a Nu village. Laomudeng means 'a place people like to come' in Nu language. If you happen to be there on a Sunday, you can enter the church to listen to the locals' hymns.
The four-part harmony, akin to the sound of nature, drifts through the valley, and newcomers to Nujiang are invariably moved by these devout and beautiful hymns.
Continuing along the beautiful highway, the Nujiang River rushes before you. After a quiet and elegant big bend, the Nujiang River is no longer 'angry.' When a vast rice field appears in front of you, you have arrived at Songtsam Bingzhongluo Lodge.
You can use the lodge as a starting point to continue northward, exploring the hidden depths of Bingzhongluo.
The World of Alpine Rhododendrons, a Paradise for Spiritual 'I' People.
Due to the high requirements for their growing environment, rhododendrons are often found in beautiful, sparsely populated spring mountains. The unpretentious and unapproachable alpine rhododendrons resonate with spiritual 'I' people who are more focused on their inner selves and yearn to immerse themselves in tranquil nature.
During this grand rhododendron season, they bloom leisurely at tunnel entrances, along hiking trails, and on the roadside, easily capturing your gaze with just a glance.
Leave behind the complexities of daily life and immerse yourself in a sea of rhododendrons.
In April, in the Nujiang area where Songtsam Stone Moon Mountain Lodge is located, the road winds up the middle section of the Gaoligong Mountains along the west bank, with peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, and pear blossoms lining the road, creating a colorful floral path.
In May, Pudacuo National Park, located in the core area of the ' ' Natural Heritage in northwest Yunnan, enters the highland spring.
Clusters of pink bright-leaved rhododendrons bloom among the lake wetlands and forest meadows, weaving a dust-free floral carpet.
Not far away, at the Washbasin Pass in Shangri-La, slopes are covered with blooming rhododendrons, with the whole tree of red-brown rhododendrons displaying a brilliant crimson, creating a breathtaking scene.
Every year from May to June, Qianhu Mountain hides the most spectacular sea of rhododendrons in Shangri-La. Over 300 alpine lakes of various sizes and shapes each have their own charm.
Hike lightly along the primitive forest trails of Qianhu Mountain, surrounded by lush green trees, with pale yellow, light purple, and red alpine rhododendrons changing around you, a stunning scenery that can only be seen by delving deep into it.
In June, the Niding Primitive Forest near the Deqin Songtsam Benzilan Hotel is cool, moist, and verdant.
Walk along and admire the large patches of hanging moss, rhododendrons, irises, and streams along the way, with new and interesting vegetation constantly stopping you in your tracks.
Zhizi Luo, an ancient village in Yunnan for summer retreat
Nestled between the raging Nu River, Biluo Snow Mountain, and Gaoligong Mountain in the Nu River Grand Canyon lies a forgotten 'abandoned city,' also known as the City of Memory by locals. It is a village located more than 2000 meters at the foot of the Biluo Snow Mountain, once the seat of the Nujiang Prefecture, called Zhizi Luo Village. It is high in altitude, cool in summer, and a perfect place to escape the heat, where you can see a sea of clouds during the summer.
Historically, it was also an important transit point on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, where a post station and market once made it a bustling place.
Transportation: Departing from Liuku Town, the seat of Nujiang Prefecture, and traveling along National Highway 219, it takes about two and a half hours to reach Laomu Village, and then about another 10 minutes to get there. The road conditions are good, with many winding mountain roads.
Yunnan Nujiang Prefecture, Fugong County, Zhizi Luo Village Admission is free
There is a parking lot at the tourist center, free of charge
Main attractions: Octagonal Tower, former site of the government office area
The Octagonal Tower, which was once the library here, has now been converted into the Zhizi Luo Museum
Accommodation: You can stay in Laomu Deng Village, where there are many homestays for around 200 yuan. It's very quiet, and you can stay for a few days.
Waking up in the embrace of the Nujiang River, I find myself at the Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Lodge
Yunnan's last secret realm, I have found the answer. Nestled in the embrace of the Biluo Snow Mountain, at an altitude of 1760 meters, isolated from the world, this is the Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Lodge.
Staying at the Songzan Moon Mountain Lodge with friends, as you open the door, the magnificent spring view of the Nujiang Gorge is fully in sight. For photography enthusiasts, every spot here is an excellent location for shooting; sea of clouds, sunrise, mountains and rivers, every casual snap is a masterpiece. There are several tourist attractions around the hotel, such as the Stone Moon Viewing Platform, Laomudeng Village, Zhiziluo, and Moon Mountain.
The Most Beautiful Cloud-Top Hideaway Hotel - Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Residence
Some landscapes are destined to be reached through arduous treks and long journeys.
I would never have come to Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture if it weren't for Songzan. Nestled between canyons and secluded from the hustle and bustle, perched atop cliffs with the Nu River at its feet, the Songzan Stone Moon Mountain Residence is the latest in the Songzan series of hotels I've unlocked after the Nanga Bawa Mountain Residence.
To get to the hotel, I recommend flying directly to Baoshan Airport from other regions and arranging a hotel transfer. Those who drive themselves from Tibet and like the Songzan brand can consider staying for a day.
Songzan - Stone Moon - Mountain Residence. Upon arrival, the staff invites you to sit down and welcomes you with papaya honey water, biscuits, and a warm towel. The holiday atmosphere is strong, and in addition to the check-in area, the lobby has a reception area and a boutique shop with many carefully selected items. I recommend the essential oil soap, geranium essential oil soap, with a very healthy ingredient list consisting of geranium oil, coconut oil, and olive oil, which doesn't dry out the skin when used for washing the face or bathing.
The Most Beautiful Cloud-Top Hideaway Hotel, where the houses are built on the cliffs, offers a stunning visual effect. The ecological vegetation is very good, and the climate is also suitable for living.
The hotel has an infinity pool. In the morning, the entire hotel is usually shrouded in clouds. When the weather is good, sitting outside reading, looking at the local village opposite, listening to the birds and smelling the faint scent of plants, every breath of air is very sweet. There are huge walnut trees. The distant Gaoligong Mountains. I stayed in a deluxe room with an area of 62 square meters, with a balcony view that is very direct, facing the Nu River and Stone Moon. Every Songzan guest room has a book called 'The Secret Door' on the desk.
The room is equipped with a B&O Bluetooth speaker, the bedding is soft and comfortable, and there are two fans on the bed. The mineral water used is 5100, and a special goodnight drink is delivered during the night bed service, with rice wine on the first day and silver ear red dates wolfberry on the second day.
The kettle used is Delonghi, the room fridge is free, and the tea bags are a co-branded version of Songzan and chali. The bathroom is very spacious, with double sinks and a large round bathtub, with a separate dry and wet area. The bath salt for soaking is Himalayan salt. The bath products are from the Thai brand Erb, and the soap is geranium essential oil soap, which I really like. The staff turns on the aromatherapy humidifier every day. There is a heating rod on the washstand, a small detail that guests like, so there's no need to worry about washed clothes not drying.
At night, looking out from the room, the village outside twinkles like fireflies. If the weather is good, you can see the sky full of stars.
The restaurant is on the second floor, and breakfast is also served here. You can order a la carte, and the dishes are consistently good in taste and presentation. The black truffle dumplings are delicious, the hand-grabbed rice is special, and the stinky tofu with cured meat is the most recommended dish, with the chef's understanding of it being spot-on. The desserts and ice cream are good, consistently performing well.
The hotel has a SPA and wellness center on the third floor, and Songzan seems to be in deep cooperation with La Mer. The view from the spa room is good, but I feel the prices for facial and body SPA are a bit high.
Staying at Songzan, each room comes with a double afternoon tea, which is served at the bar on the first floor.
The overall experience is still very good, and there is room for improvement in service. Some staff members are very enthusiastic, and choosing this place is more about the scenery and environment.
The expeditionary force returned to the crossing point
'The Story of My Battalion Commander, My Regiment' took place here.
Defeating the enemy but losing to the mountains, out of the hundred thousand expeditionary soldiers, only twenty thousand perished on the battlefield. However, after covering the retreat of the disorganized British forces to India, they received the order to withdraw. During the journey home, while crossing the Savage Mountain and the Gaoligong Mountains among others, over thirty thousand officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives amidst the towering peaks.
Now, many relics of the Chinese expeditionary force from those days along the border have gradually been restored, and a segment of the incredibly tragic history of the Chinese military and civilian resistance will be forever passed down.
Settling into the Secret Realm of Nujiang | Songzan's First Canyon Hotel
hello, I am serena🌍 who is determined to live all over the world
Received a tip that Songzan is having a trial run of their mountain residence at Shiyueliang
Immediately rushed over from Dali by car🚗
This is the 6th Songzan hotel I have stayed at
Brass, raw wood, and rock slices are familiar ingredients
But there are more elements of the Lisu people in the details
Rich color blocks and pastoral-style fabrics are traditional extensions
I really like the contrasting woven baskets and fans in the room
Immediately went to the lobby's 'Songzan Features' to shop👓
The color tone of the mountain residence is like a girl from Renoir's paintings
Warm and delicate as jade under the sunlight, exquisite and elegant
The slender infinity pool holds the sea of clouds and morning mist
The entire hotel naturally integrates with the village
The Gaoligong Mountains and the Biluo Snow Mountain stand tall and face each other
The room faces the canyon directly, and you can quietly watch the clouds roll from the balcony
The scenic bathtub is super big, the view while bathing is jio beautiful
The distant Shiyueliang is really mysterious and unique 🌙
Super happy to encounter the Qilin batch manager who had guided me before at the hotel
And Teacher Cili who I learned yoga with in Shangri-La🧘
Coming to Songzan feels like coming home💖
I will give a proper review of the hotel in the next article!!
Enchanting Mountain Abode—The Pine Praise Stone Moon
My first experience at the Pine Praise Hotel left me with the following impressions:
1. The hotel's location truly offers an unbeatable view. Of course, getting there is not easy.
2. The service standard is high, warm yet respectful of personal boundaries.
3. During the Spring Festival, only set menus were available, which was a slight disappointment. However, the quality of the meals in the set menu sets high expectations for the regular meals.
4. The price is indeed a bit expensive.
The gods and humans dwell together in Bingzhongluo
Angry River originates from Tibet, flows through Yunnan into Myanmar, and finally empties into the Indian Ocean. The section in Tibet is called 'Nachu River', and in Myanmar, it is known as 'Salween River'.
We traveled north along the Angry River for three days, from Lushui City to Laomudeng Village in Fugong County, and then to Bingzhongluo in Gongshan County.
On the third day, we arrived at Bingzhongluo in Gongshan County.
G219 is well-maintained, with a cycling lane provided all the way, offering an experience of a section of Bingzhongluo. After crossing the Yunnan-Tibet border into Linzhi Chayu County, the road turns into a dirt track. Vehicles coming from the Tibet section to Yunnan are covered in mud. Landslides, falling rocks, and debris flows are the norm here, and it is really not recommended to visit during the rainy season.
Here, villages are called 'XX Luo' or 'XX Tong', depending on whether the Nu, Lisu, or Tibetan ethnic groups are the majority in the village; some are called 'Luo' and some 'Tong'. Trek through the ancient tea-horse road of Wuli Village, Qiunatong, overlooking the first and second bends of the Angry River. This place is known as where gods and humans dwell together, probably referring to the peaceful coexistence of multiple ethnicities and religions.
Standing above the sea of clouds, on the cliff top is the Songzan Shiyue Mountain Residence
Transportation
Shiyue Mountain Residence is located in Chishadi Village, Nujiang, Yunnan. It took me about five hours to drive from Baoshan Airport to the hotel. All the way along the 218 National Road and parallel to the Nujiang River, passing through the Tiger Leaping Gorge scenic area, I felt the charm of the Nujiang River along the way. After leaving the national road and winding up the mountain for about 7 kilometers, I arrived at the Shiyue Mountain Residence at an altitude of 1750 meters. Hotel and Room
The hotel is in the usual Songzan style, and the window view of each room is as beautiful as a painting. Staying in the room, you can see the Nujiang River and Shiyue, it's a pity that I didn't encounter the sea of clouds this time. If I could encounter the sea of clouds, it would definitely be like a fairyland. Food
The most surprising thing this time is the restaurant's food. I enjoyed every meal, especially the lacquer oil chicken hot pot. The chicken soup is rich and delicious, the chicken is tender and not woody, and the vegetables are also very fresh and sweet. The hotel is also very thoughtful, displaying some commonly used local spices and food on a specially made table at the entrance of the restaurant. When I stopped to admire it, the restaurant staff came over and explained the name and use of each spice to me. I particularly liked the scent of a pepper root, and I shamelessly asked for one to put in my office to refresh myself.
Service
The Songzan family is still so lovely, everyone is very kind and simple, and they take good care of us. This time I especially want to thank the manager, Lao Kang, who would find us every day to chat and ask if we slept well and ate well. When we left, he specially prepared two boxes of sandwiches and snacks and fruits for us to take on the road back to Baoshan, which was really thoughtful.
【Hotel News】Canyon Hotel Trial Operation|Songzan Stone Moon Mountain House Starts Days in the Clouds
On January 20, Songzan Stone Moon Mountain House began trial operation, the beauty of the canyon, hidden. Mr. Baima Duoji, the founder of Songzan, has come to Nujiang several times to choose the location for the hotel.
In Mr. Baima Duoji's view, Songzan Stone Moon Mountain, as the first canyon hotel of Songzan, "stands above the sea of clouds, on the top of the cliff, far away from the hustle and bustle", will bring Songzan family members the ultimate canyon view and comfortable vacation experience.
Looking north from any room in the hotel, you can see a never-setting bright moon hanging in the distant mountains, that is the sacred 'Stone Moon' in the hearts of the Lisu people.
"The Most Beautiful Village" Laomudeng
When I arrived at Laomudeng, it was already evening. I put down my luggage and hurried out to take a few pictures.
The sun was setting, but it was exceptionally clear. The sky was filled with a blue background, reflecting the twinkling clouds on the western horizon. The snow mountain was also illuminated, especially beautiful and healing!
The entire village was gradually lit up by lights, extending up the slope.
After a round, it was almost seven o'clock. The lights in the church were also on, reflecting on the lake surface, as flat as a mirror, and my heart became quiet.
At seven thirty, the shell of the cannon in front of the church began to ring, and the pure natural unaccompanied four-part chorus also echoed in the canyon (the hymn sung in Lisu language, remember it is 7:30, not 8 o'clock).
The 'City of Memory' known as Zhi Zi Luo
The 'City of Memory' known as Zhi Zi Luo (also referred to as the 'Abandoned City', but it is currently revitalizing, this name has become a thing of the past).
Once the capital of Nujiang Prefecture and Bijiang County, it was evacuated overnight due to a mudslide forecast, leaving nearly a hundred buildings from the 70s and 80s, everything remains as it was over twenty years ago, as if time has frozen here.
For many years, it has been safe and sound, and now many residents have spontaneously returned. Many brick and wood structures have fallen into disrepair due to age, but a large number of reinforced concrete buildings from government departments are sturdy and durable, becoming a temporary residence for people.
The unique peace of Lao Mudeng Village
Lao Mudeng Village is one of the tourist attractions of the Nujiang Grand Canyon, with beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural landscapes.
Lao Mudeng Village is located in the Nujiang Canyon, a place full of rich cultural atmosphere and natural landscapes. Across from Lao Mudeng Village is the famous Crown Mountain in the northern section of the Gaoligong Mountains, with steep mountains and majestic momentum, which makes people marvel at the wonders of nature. In Lao Mudeng Village, in addition to enjoying the magnificent natural scenery, you can also visit the Lao Mudeng Christian Church. This church is one of the largest Christian churches in the Nujiang area and an important place for local Christian faith. The architectural style of the church is unique, full of the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, making people feel a different cultural atmosphere. Here, tourists can understand the development history of Christianity in the Nujiang area, and also feel the local people's faith and customs.
Lao Mudeng Village is a tourist attraction that combines natural scenery, cultural landscapes, and religious culture. If you want to experience a different travel experience, why not come here to explore!
Seeking the memory of time - Zhiziluo Old Town
The Lisu language calls 'Zhiziluo' a 'good place', located on the ridge of the Biluo Snow Mountain at an altitude of 2023 meters. It was once the capital of the Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province and the location of the former Bijiang County. In the 1970s, due to inconvenient transportation, the state government moved away first. In the 1980s, because it was predicted that there would be a major earthquake and landslide, the county moved. The residents of the county had to evacuate, and overnight it became a deserted city. More than 30 years have passed, and there has been no earthquake or landslide. So some mountain people moved in one after another. Zhiziluo still retains the small town border style of the 60s and 70s, so it is called the 'City of Memory'. In the old city of Zhiziluo, you can feel the traces of time. It is a good place for nostalgia, climbing and overlooking the Nujiang Valley scenery leisure tourism.
