All Moments About Favignana
Favognana island - sicily to live
The island is famous for its caves of calcarenite rock (locally known as "tufo") and the ancient fishing technique of tonnara, with the trapping and mattanza (slaughter) of bluefin tuna. It hosts the historical Tonnara di Favignana.
At most I would stay three to four days, meaning two to three nights. This should be enough time to give you an adequate visit and enough ability to see the attractions of Favignana and make wonderful memories.
is easy to say that beyond being the largest of the islands in this archipelago, this is also the liveliest and probably the most attractive. Don't get me wrong: Marettimo is wilder and beautiful, and you have the Levanzo Islands that are also amazing and beautiful, but Favignana stands out.
You can get around the island is by car, by scooter or foot. But I believe renting a scooter is for sure the best solution.
Therefore bike, both normal and electric, is the main mean of transport on the island. It is also possible to get around by other vehicles, from scooter to car. You can also opt for the tourist train or traditional private mini bus.
The most famous of the swimming spots in Favignana. According to legend, the “rossa” of the name refers to the red blood staining the crystalline waters of the cove during a battle between the Romans and Carthaginians in 241 BC. But it's hard to imagine that this place was ever anything but serene.

Favignana is a hidden gem near Sicily
I went to Favignana from Palermo.
A bus 🚌 to Trapani then ferry ⛴️ to Favignana porto.
Bus 9 EUR, ferry 14€, not complicated and cheap. It took 30 min by ferry and around 1 hour 40 min by bus.
Favignana has a city centre where everything is happening, so it’s a place to go in the evening for a nice restaurant.
I stayed 2 km from a city centre and didn’t regret it.
My agenda for 3 days was:
Day 1
Check in at 12:30, riding a bicycle to get familiar with a surroundings, chilling near some cliffs, a dinner in a city centre
Day 2
I divided it into 2 parts
First half - riding a bike 🚲 lunch in the city centre, then hiking the cliffs, dinner in the city centre
Day 3
2 halves: sunbathing and swimming in the southern part of the island
Second half of the day: lunch in the city centre and bicycling around cliffs
I love riding a bike and Favignana is PERFECT for that. I thought i’d swim and sunbathe more but I’m happy for my plan changes 😛
Definitely recommend trying food with tonno - it’s super delicious on the island 🏝️ and staying further from the city centre is a good idea. Have a power bank because you’ll be taking photos of everything around. It’s just too beautiful 🤩
And also about the beaches, I went on a sand beach but I saw people playing around cliffs - it’s just not for me. Water is clearer in the first half of the day and for the second half it’s more wild - more waves and you feel the power of the sea.
