They were even more stunning in real life than we could have imagined. Bright red lanterns hanging from a cliffside rest-stop contrasted vibrantly against the ethereal blues all around us. The surroundings were quiet, as very few tourists travel to Enshi. We found ourselves wrapped in the sounds of the river’s gentle flow. While in Enshi, we also went to visit the stunning Stone Forest, as well as the canonical Grand Canyons. This is only one of the many natural wonders in Enshi. You can easily spend half-day exploring this mountain. And like all other mountains tourists’ destinations in China, you can take the cable-car up, the path is well-built with clear signs, there are plenty of stairs to climb (instead of hiking through bushes and wilderness). Nevertheless, the view is wonderful. Take some time to stop and just look around -and breathe. One of the must-visit, underrated, destination of China! Tips: as this is not an internationally known tourist spot (like Guilin or Zhangjiaje), most restaurants and hotels staff are unable to understand any English. Get yourself a good translator or just master a basic conversational skills :) Tips 2: this place may not bee too popular to international tourists, but really popular among locals! we started from cable car down to up station and did 6k on the top of the ridge until escalators. followed by few kilometers bus ride from escalator down station to cable car down station back. then walked down the stairs to follow the green path on the bottom of the valley. all together 15 km GPS measured was gold. highly recommended for hiking lovers ! The Grand Canyon is approximately 2 hours by car from Enshi. The total trek is around 10 kilometres and takes around 4-5 hours. Do take the cable car as it covers a lo of grounds over a not very scenic part of the mountains. Choosing a private car tour in Western Hubei was the smartest decision of this trip! Enshi and Yichang have attractions that are far apart and involve many mountain roads. The local driver is familiar with the routes and drives steadily, so there’s no need to check directions or rush for buses. The whole trip was worry-free and relaxing, emphasizing an immersive scenic experience. On the first day, we went straight to Pingshan Canyon. The "floating boat" scene was even more stunning than in photos, with clear water and green mountains like a fairyland. Hiking and sightseeing were very healing. In the evening, we headed to Xuan’en and stayed at a riverside guesthouse (about 150 RMB per person). We strolled around the night scene on foot, enjoying the lights and fountains paired with Tujia cuisine—super cozy. On the second day, we arrived at the entrance of Enshi Grand Canyon, visited Yunlong Rift, and climbed Qixingzhai to watch the "One Incense Stick" view. The cliff scenery was so breathtaking it left us speechless. We stayed at a scenic guesthouse in Mufu Town (about 350 RMB per person), close to the attractions, where we could also enjoy authentic farmhouse dishes to relieve hiking fatigue. On the third day, the Earth Heart Valley exceeded expectations. The glass bridge and waterside boardwalk were great for photos and stress relief. 🚗 Zigui to Enshi: Road conditions are average, drive cautiously at night! 🏨 Stay at a hotel near Daughter City 🍜 Food: Took a taxi to the hotel front desk where the young lady recommended Xintiandi Night Market. It’s very lively at night, parking nearby is difficult. Bought fried bean curd skin, Enshi small potatoes, and Jianshi cold noodles. Prices are reasonable and the taste is pretty good. Day 2 Enshi Luyuanping 🚗 Self-driving route: Chose the route "See Enshi Grand Canyon without tiring your legs." Start from the hotel and navigate to Luyuanping Scenic Area, adding a waypoint at Maliaoxi. Along the way, you can view Enshi Grand Canyon Yunlong Rift and Yizhuxiang from a distance, pass the Hanging Road, and at the end, see the waterfall steps at Maliaoxi. All mountain roads, difficult to drive! Narrow roads, many curves, basically no parking while driving. Driving skills are highly tested, choose carefully! Without the elevator, you must walk over 1,800 steps. The elevator takes about 2 minutes to reach the valley bottom.
