After driving 🚗 along twisting road we arrive at one of the highlight little towns of the province of 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲, south of 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮 - 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 - considered one of 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻's most beautiful towns Its narrow cobblestone-covered streets, whitewashed walls and the ubiquotous palmtrees leading the way towards a steep promontory with a castle guard tower certainly are proof of 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 beauty and the reason why this little town got such an accolade 🥇 As you get into the town, its streets are lined with cafes ☕️ restaurants 🍽 and souvenirs shops 🎁- you can even get swords ⚔️ and antique (decorative) guns in some of them -and as you walk towards the top the houses become intertwined in more difficult forms, defying gravity. After walking through a tunnel, you will arrive at the entrance that leads to the top of the castle🏰 with its iconic guard tower at the pinnacle of it. However, if you prefer continuing your walk through the village, you should make it left and keep walking until you arrive to a big square at the top. There we can find more than 70 instruments of torture, such as the chair or rack used during interrogations, or the guillotine or the rod used for executions. Seeing how Europeans lived hundreds of years ago is really horrifying and makes you realize how cruel the punishments were in ancient times. You will be thankful that you were born in this era. Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Alicante (Region) The castle is located high above the town. Its origins date back to the 11th century, but the surviving remains are from the 12th century. It was divided into two parts – one of them was used as a local cemetery and the other was used to protect the residents. It was originally a Muslim settlement and later became part of the Kingdom of Aragon. Most of the extant remains date from the time of Pedro IV. It is not well preserved as large parts of the castle were destroyed by two earthquakes. What’s unique about this fortress is that it houses an entire town – all of which forms part of the citadel, surrounded by mountains. In 1993 the castle was bought by the town’s Marchioness and declared a Historic-Artistic Monument. Set the Navigator to #El Castell de Guadalest from Albarracin 338 kg, travel time 3 hours 38 minutes. It was already 08:30 when I learned to set the Navigators in the car. Ready to go. The road is a small 2-lane road, like the entrance to the village. After a while, it cuts off to the main road, the highway between cities. Drive comfortably. At 1 pm, we reached the intersection from the main road, which is another small 2-lane road. This time, it is a winding road on a small mountain. It is a beautiful view. We met many small groups of mountain bikes and Big Bikes along the way. The driver had to drive more carefully than usual. After this section, the next road is quite straight along the side of the mountain. It is a high mountain range. The view in the distance is the sea. The view is similar to Doi Inthanon in my hometown. We drove for quite a long time because we did not want to drive fast. We drove slowly, looked at the view, and were careful of bicycles and Big Bikes. We arrived at El Castell de Guadalest Castle in the late afternoon, so we went up to see the castle. But the time to go up the castle was over. It will be open again in the evening. So I walked around to see the view and decided to check in to the hotel first, then I could come back to find something to eat here. The hotel was a few kilometers away, it was a room in a restaurant. After checking in, I felt hungry, so I went down to eat. I chose 1 grilled squid, it was quite delicious, with salad and some kind of soup. After eating, I went back to visit the castle again. Castle on the mountain #El Castell de Guadalest #Spain On both sides of the road to the castle, there were souvenir shops. As far as I could see, almost all of them were Spanish tourists. Most of them came as couples, some young people, some old people. There were not many children, probably because it was the beginning of the school term. Don't even mention tour buses. I didn't see any. The castle was built with each room and floor designed to match the existing mountain peak. The stairs wind and curve according to the shape of the rocks. The buildings and gardens were built to match the shape of the mountain with many sharp peaks. It was very late when we finished sightseeing. We returned to our accommodation at around 8 pm. We weren't hungry at all, so we skipped dinner, saving another meal. The sun was still shining, but it was too late to go anywhere else. I asked the owner where there was a place to walk in the evening. She said there was a small village in front of the castle, which I had been to, and in Benidorm, which was 22 km away, a 30-minute drive away. It was a seaside town that could be seen from the distance. It was clearly visible from our accommodation because it was a house on a mountain. We decided not to go because even though the sky was still bright, it was already late. The view here is overall OK, strangely enough, but what impressed me the most was the view along the drive. This place seems to be a tourist attraction for Spanish people in particular, because it is far from the tourist city. The hotels are not large enough to accommodate a large number of tourists. You have to stay here, not on the way like other places that are suitable for tourist attractions. No one spoke English with me. I had to use special skills to communicate, but it was no problem. The people were lovely and did not look down on us at all (unlike England, which I just went to). After 3-4 days, I feel like I like Spain more and more. #Spain #Europe
