2025 East Khasi Hills Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in May)

Located in the northeastern part of India, the state of Meghalaya is renowned for its incredible natural diversity and stunning landscapes. Like we see in the fictional movies like Narnia, where even the plants🌴 would extend their support for greater humanitarian causes; one such scene is this in Khasi hills of Sikkim. As our exploration in North eastern part of India continued, we hiked on to explore this hanging living roots🌿 that provid the perfect bridge to cross across the small waterways. Although the very first such bridge was formed naturally some 300 years ago, later as tourism🥸 flourished the humans put out the roots together so in a span of 20 years they will be completely grown as a bridge binding together. You may need a good stamina to hike down some 4km and play in some water pools out there; again hike up then ! Quite a tedious effort, but totally worth it. Afternoon: Short trek to the Single Root Bridge (easy alternative to Double Decker). Optional for adventurers: Full-day trek to Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat (start very early & expect 7–8 hrs total). Evening: Return to Shillong. Dinner at your hotel or try City Hut Dhaba for a mix of Indian and local dishes. 📍 Overnight in Shillong 📅 Day 3: Mawlynnong + Dawki (Cleanest Village & Crystal River) Early Morning: Drive to Mawlynnong (about 2.5 hrs) – known as Asia’s cleanest village. Walk through the village, see bamboo dustbins and neat gardens. Visit the Sky Walk – a bamboo tower with views over Bangladesh plains. Late Morning: Head to Riwai to see the Single Living Root Bridge (short 10–15 min walk). Afternoon: Drive to Dawki (1 hr from Mawlynnong). Boat ride on the Umngot River – famed for its crystal-clear water. Enjoy a packed lunch or local meal by the riverbank. #OverseasTravel Located in the northeastern part of India, Meghalaya is considered one of the most beautiful natural destinations in India due to its lush green mountains and beautiful waterfalls. Upon arrival, I was invigorated by the fresh air and natural surroundings. 🌳💧 My adventure began with a visit to the amazing Nokratai Falls, where water flows beautifully between the rocks and the surrounding scenery was amazing. I spent some time taking photos while listening to the soothing sound of the water. 📸🌊 I also visited a local village and learned about the unique culture and heritage of the local people. The experience of hearing their stories and participating in their daily activities was amazing and added depth to my trip. 🏡👥 One of the most remarkable moments was exploring the hanging “Bridge of Life”, one of the natural bridges carved into the roots. Crossing this bridge was a unique experience as I enjoyed the view of the forest from above. 🌉🌺 You can’t forget the taste of local food while tasting traditional dishes that combine unique Indian flavors. The dining experience in a natural environment was amazing! 🍽️🌶️ Meghalaya is not just a tourist destination, it is a sanctuary of tranquility and natural beauty. My visit was filled with happy memories and special, unforgettable moments!

#Overseas travel Located in the Indian state of Meghalaya, Nokkalikai Falls is one of the highest waterfalls in India and is famous for its amazing beauty and charming natural scenery. As soon as I arrived, the scenery of clouds playing over the green mountains welcomed me, adding a special charm to the place. 🍃☁️ My adventure began with wandering the path leading to the waterfall where nature was around me. The sound of flowing water created a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere and made me feel a deep connection with nature. 🌳💧 When I arrived at the viewpoint, I was amazed by the beauty of the waterfall falling from a great height, and the water formed a blue puddle on the floor. The scenery of the surrounding forest was amazing and it was a great opportunity to take pictures. 📸🌈 The experience of enjoying the peace and nature while spending time appreciating and enjoying the beautiful scenery was unique. The beauty I witnessed there is unforgettable and is a sight worth seeing and experiencing. Nokalikai Falls is the ideal destination for true nature lovers, combining captivating beauty with a sense of tranquility that will rejuvenate your soul.

Nongriat is a well known treking point in Meghalaya. Its situated in East Khasi Hills. The main attraction is the living double decker root bridges. Its a 3500 concrete steps trekking. The other attractions is the blue lagoon. That particular lagoon is so soothing to the eye and its a wonder. The water is very clear, even we can jump into the water with a life jacket. Second trip to this jewel in the north eastern part of India! And what a trip this was. Managed to squeeze in a little personal travel time between the meetings and networking. Part from the lovely people and delicious food, Meghalaya has some of the world's best natural sights that I have ever seen! Personal opinion but true story. Really a wonderful place to visit and tour around.
