You can see Durham cathedral from almost any point in the city of Durham itself. It is an iconic landmark which is free to visit and a still a working religious building. The staff are always very friendly in the cathedral and are happy to talk about some of the history. Visiting the cathedral requires a walk up a steep bank but this is all part of the charm of Durham city. Is highly recommend going for a walk along the River Wear in Durham city after a visit to really get a sense of the scale of the building. Durham cathedral is also famous as a filming location for Harry Potter several years ago. There are many famous religious buildings in the UK such as York Minster and Canterbury Cathedral. I often think because of its northern location Durham cathedral can be overlooked by tourists, however, it is well worth a visit to enjoy the city and it’s amazing old cathedral.

Little Sicily Restaurant in Durham was a wonderful, friendly restaurant. The food was delicious, fresh, reasonably priced, and Daniel, the host, was fantastic. We had an extremely funny night in this fascinating old restaurant, which incorporates parts of a railway station which closed 180 years ago.
