2024 Doi Lo Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
🇹🇭 'Pha Cho', a must-see tourist attraction in Chiang Mai
‘Pha Cho’ is located in Mae Wang National Park. It was formed by geological changes. Thousands of years ago, the Ping River’s path changed direction, causing sediments to form in layers, with beautiful patterns and large sizes.
When you arrive at the park, if you stop by the tourist service point, you can stamp your park passport. There are also officers who will recommend routes for those who have never been there.
The nature study trail of Pha Cho is about 500 meters. For us, we don’t think it’s difficult because it’s mostly flat. There are some stairs that you have to walk up, but not too many.
Pha Cho has two viewing points: the top and the bottom. From the top, you can see the whole of Pha Cho. From the bottom, you can see the grandeur and beauty of nature.
Opening hours: 08.30 - 16.30
Advice
▪️We recommend wearing shoes that are quite comfortable. You can wear sneakers because most of the path is uneven rocks. There are some cement ones, but they’re not that smooth.
▪️The distance is quite short and easy. If you’re not someone who gets thirsty easily, you don’t have to bring a water bottle (we brought one and didn’t really sip it).
▪️Come in the morning when there are fewer people, so you don’t have to wait in line to take pictures. Plus the weather is cool.
Parking
There are 3 parking spots at Pha Cho. Spots 1 and 2 are close to each other. You can walk to the viewpoint and get off to Pha Cho. However, the staff recommended parking at spot 3, which is a bit further because the path to Pha Cho is flat, so you won't get too tired.
How to go
▪️We rented a car from Grand Car Rental to drop off at the Nakhonchaiair bus station and pick up the car at our accommodation (the shop is very cute. If you're visiting Chiang Mai and want to rent a car, we recommend this shop).
Accommodation
▪️B Innspire Hotel, accommodation near Chang Phuak Night Market, with private bathroom and balcony where you can sit and enjoy the city view. All amenities are provided. However, if you're driving or renting a car for several days, you must inform the accommodation in advance because there is very little parking. And there is no elevator
Expenses
▪️Park entrance fee 20.-
▪️Park car entrance fee 30.-
▪️Car rental fee 950.-/day
▪️Accommodation fee 950.-/night

Pha Cho, Unseen Thailand, the magnificent Grand Canyon
This is considered one of the most amazing geological phenomena in our country. It occurred naturally from sediments accumulated on the edges of the basin and at the foot of the mountain, forming a magnificent 30-meter-high cliff.
This has now become another check-in point for tourists in Chiang Mai. Everyone who visits must stop by to take a picture of the beauty of this place.

Magnificent Pha Cho
Pha Cho - Mae Wang National Park, Doi Lo District, Chiang Mai Province is a natural phenomenon caused by erosion by wind and rain. This area used to be a path for the Ping River, which can be seen from the large number of round pebbles scattered in the soil. Until the Ping River changed direction and flowed to another place, this area was raised to become a high hill. Ping River sediment accumulated in layers. Over time, it was eroded until it became a cliff and soil pillars with strange shapes, resulting in a beautiful red-orange sandstone cliff sculpture. #Pha Cho #Mae Wang National Park #Chiang Mai #Amazing Thailand

Pha Chor: Thailand's Grand Canyon Chiang Mai
Pha Chor is situated in the Mae Wang National Park, it's known for its striking vertical cliffs and layered sedimentary rock that has been shaped by erosion over time. Pha Chor is about a 1 to 1.5 hour drive from Chiang Mai city. You can reach by renting a motorcycle, car, hiring a taxi, or joining a tour group but public transportation options are limited, so private transport is often preferred.
The site is surrounded by lush vegetation and is a popular destination for hiking and photography, offering breathtaking views of the unique landscape. There are several trails that allow visitors to explore the area, offering panoramic views and a chance to connect with nature. Compared to more famous tourist spots in Thailand, Pha Chor tends to be less crowded, providing a more tranquil experience.

PhaCho is located in Mae Wang National Park
Doi Lo District, Chiang Mai Province. It is known as another Grand Canyon of Thailand because PhaCho was formed by wind and rain erosion. PhaCho is a steep cliff
about 30 meters high and there are strange and beautiful soil pillars nearby.
🏍🏍🏍 This trip, I rented a motorcycle from Chiang Mai city to drive with my younger sibling.
✅ Park entrance fee is 20 baht per person.
✅ Open from 08.00-16.00 hrs.
After paying the entrance fee at the ticket booth, I drove
straight to PhaCho viewpoint. There is a parking lot, a map sign and directions to the cliff point.
PhaCho is considered a very beautiful viewpoint and there is also a pavilion for resting and drinks for sale.
There are 2 ways to get from PhaCho viewpoint to the steep cliff point:
1. From the viewpoint at this pavilion, we can walk to PhaCho
by walking down the stairs for about 400 meters.
2. Driving down to the parking lot With toilets and entrances

⭐⭐⭐ The highlight of Pha Cho is that there are also many nature study trails.

#Get a discount without relying on luck
Come to Pha Cho, I didn't think it would be this tiring, but it's very worth it. It's beautiful and magnificent because nature created it.
Whoever comes, prepare your body.
The path is not difficult, just tired when climbing the stairs.
There is a pavilion to rest, knowing that you will be tired when you get here.
There are staff to give good advice after climbing the stairs to the end.
I'll share some history.
Pha Cho is formed from sediments that accumulate on the edge of the basin or the foot of the mountain of the Thanon Thong Chai mountain range in the late Tertiary period. Later, geological conditions caused the sediments at the foot of the mountain to be pushed up into a hilly area and a steep area. After the water eroded and washed away the soil surface, it became a beautiful cliff.
Pha Cho, returning from Doi Inthanon, randomly chose to continue my trip here.
#Get a discount without relying on luck
Because that day, I had time left and wanted to find another place to visit, so I randomly selected it from the map. I can tell you, it's so worth it. You have to come here at least once. The entrance fee for adults is 20 baht, and for cars it's 30 baht. There are 3 parking lots.
Parking lot 1 has a view of the reservoir. There is a small cafe. When I went, it was closed.
Parking lot 2 is a viewpoint. The staff provided very good service. There is a cafe here. You can sit and drink water and enjoy the view from above. The day I went was a bit hot. There is a nature study trail down to connect to the lower part where there is parking lot 3.
Pha Chor: A Natural Wonder
Pha Chor, located in Mae Wang National Park, is a hidden gem discovered by chance while returning from Doi Inthanon.
Pha Chor is a cliff that has been gradually eroded by water, revealing unique sediment layers. The round-trip walking path is approximately 1 kilometer.
There are parking areas at the top. Parking Area 1 and Area 2 are closer to the viewpoint, while Parking Area 3 offers an easier round-trip walk without the need to climb hills.
Along the way, there are stations to study geological formations. The path follows an old riverbed of the Ping River, filled with gravel and sand.
Before reaching Pha Chor, you need to climb a small cliff. There is a pavilion for resting along the way.
Once you reach Pha Chor, the fatigue will disappear instantly. It's surprising to find such a place in Thailand.
P.S. Don't forget to bring a bottle of water. The weather can be quite hot.
Trip to the North
Not finished yet, my northern trip. Today, we are going to Doi Lo, Pha Cho. This place must be in Mae Wang National Park, Doi Lo District. This place is considered a natural phenomenon that is amazing in geology and is another unseen place in Chiang Mai Province. #VisitChiangMai It is considered a wonder because geologists estimate that this place is more than 5,000 years old. Therefore, it is a place that you must not miss if you come to Chiang Mai. It takes about 2 hours to drive from the city. It is a bit far, but it is worth it.
Pha Cho, Mae Wang National Park
The area of Pha Cho, if the ecosystem of plants and animals were studied first, it would be great. But since it has been declared a national park, in the academic study stage, it is still preliminary. If professors or academics from the university come to help with the study, it would be great because it is specialized. There will be plants and animals. These plants will be all dry dipterocarp trees. For example, the matter of succession would be good. It will allow us to know the growth and death ratio of the plants in the Pha Cho area. Another thing is that the ecosystem that we have learned about in the beginning is that it is a local ecosystem. Therefore, the plants and animals will be different from other dry dipterocarp forests, especially the dry dipterocarp forest, which has a lot of them. If there is no study of plants,
other places may become extinct or may be stolen. But here, it is still a large area of several thousand rai, which is very fertile and hard to find. It is a place with a large area. Another thing is that it is a deciduous forest near the community. It is mostly encroached by villagers because during the dry season, if the forest sheds its leaves, it will look like a degraded forest that is empty. But here, we will receive cooperation from the community. #100 ways to travel #Natural attractions
The Rock Cliff of Mae Wang National Park🪨
Pha Chor is located in Mae Wang National Park, about a 1-hour drive from Chiang Mai city. There is parking available.
The nature trail is about 500 meters long, easy to walk, with informative signs along the way. The beauty of the sedimentary rock layers that have been deposited and eroded has earned this place the nickname 'Thailand's Grand Canyon' (though personally, I think it resembles Bryce Canyon more).
🕰️Operating hours: Open daily from 08:30 to 16:30.
💰Average cost per person: Entrance fee for adults is 20฿.

Pha Cho
- It is a place that is created by nature.
- It is created by the accumulation and deposition of ancient river sediments from the Tertiary period that are more than 5 million years old. After going through natural processes, both rain, wind and water currents help erode, causing the surface of the sediment layer to form grooves, columns, and curves that create beautiful patterns according to nature.
- Good staff, providing excellent information, available at intervals.
- Easy and convenient walking path.
- Beautiful photo spots.
- Plenty of parking.
- The entrance fee is not expensive (The price is posted in the last picture.)

Especially in the rainy season, the trees and cliffs are beautiful and clean.
A famous tourist attraction "Pha Cho"
is another natural sculpture
that is very impressive
resulting from sediment accumulated on the

Thanon Thongchai Klang mountain range
since the late Tertiary period.
It is assumed that this area
was once a river flow path

Pha Cho, Mae Wang, Chiang Mai, so beautiful that you have to tell others.
💞Reason for recommendation: #VisitChiangMai Travel from Chiang Mai city and drive along the irrigation canal road until you reach the end of the road, you will find a three-way intersection, turn right towards Doi Lor, drive a short distance, look for the sign for Pha Cho National Park, turn right. When you arrive, there will be a large parking lot, then walk to buy a ticket, there will be a park officer, smiling, recommending tourist attractions and the distance to walk to us. Along the way, it will take time because it is tiring, but when you walk to the end of the road, everyone will say wow because it is worth the effort when seeing the beauty of nature :) :)

A real canyon in the north of Thailand
The north of Thailand is an amazing place. Here you can find such different and unusual places that your head is spinning. For example, the stunning Pha Chor Canyon. This is certainly not the Grand Canyon from the USA, but it also looks very impressive. There is a canyon near the city of Chiang Mai, on the territory of the national park. The ticket price is 100 Thai baht and this place is definitely worth it!
