I stood in front of the statue, feeling the sacred aura it exudes and the historical weight it carries. Leaving Notre Dame, I strolled to Dijon’s central market (Marché de Dijon). This is the heart of the city, full of vitality. The wide variety of goods, from fresh agricultural products to local specialties, is dazzling. I savored fresh strawberries and savored their sweet flavor, I picked up a few bottles of Burgundy wine, looking forward to sharing them with friends that evening, and of course, I bought a few jars of the famous Dijon mustard to take home and enjoy with my family. The hustle and bustle of the market and the enthusiasm of the people made me feel the vitality and warmth of Dijon. However, the beauty of Dijon is not only reflected in the city, but also extends to the natural scenery outside the city. I strolled along the Ouche River, admiring the beauty of the river flowing and the green trees on both sides. The riverside trail is a great place for citizens to take a leisurely walk. I saw many people riding bicycles, walking their dogs, or just sitting quietly by the river, enjoying the tranquility of the afternoon. The breeze blowing on your face and the sunshine shining down, all of this makes people feel relaxed and happy. Shopping is also a pleasure in Dijon. From high-end boutiques to antique shops, from souvenir shops to local craft stores, there is everything. I bought some postcards featuring Dijon's landmarks, as well as some local handicrafts as souvenirs of my trip. Shopping is not just consumption, it is also a cultural experience. It allows me to have a deeper understanding of the characteristics and culture of Dijon. Besides the historic center and the banks of the Auch River, I also visited the Dijon Botanical Garden (Jardin botanique de Dijon). A variety of plants are planted here, making it a green paradise. In the botanical garden, I can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and feel the tranquility and beauty of nature. Stroll along the tree-lined path, admire the colorful flowers, breathe the fresh air, and fully relax your body and mind. During my few days in Dijon, I also participated in a local wine tasting event. Under the guidance of professionals, I tasted different types of Burgundy wines and felt their unique flavors and aromas. Unexpected discovery: In an inconspicuous alley, I found a small bakery. The bread there was fragrant and soft, and it was one of the most delicious breads I have ever eaten. Quiet time by the Auch River: In the evening, I sat by the Auch River, watching the sunset, feeling the flow of the river and the gentle breeze. The tranquility and peace make me feel extremely comfortable and relaxed. The beauty of Dijon at night: As night falls, the lights of Dijon light up, and the goose yellow buildings appear even warmer and softer in the night. #francetrip I just got back from a fantastic trip to Dijon, France, and I can't stop raving about it! 🥂 Dijon is the capital of Burgundy, and it's famous for its mustard, wine, and beautiful medieval architecture. We started our day in the heart of the city, exploring the Place de la Libération, with its stunning fountains and views of the Palais des Ducs. The entrance fee to the Ducal Palace was just €4.50, and it was worth every cent to see the beautiful art and historical exhibits. 🏰 Next, we visited the Musée des Beaux-Arts, located right in the palace. The museum was free, and it had an incredible collection of European paintings and sculptures. From there, we walked down the cobbled streets of the old town, stopping by Les Halles market to sample local cheeses, charcuterie, and, of course, the famous Dijon mustard! 🧀🥖 For lunch, we tried a traditional Burgundy dish called boeuf bourguignon at a cozy bistro, paired with a glass of local Pinot Noir. It was absolutely delicious! 🍷 In the afternoon, we climbed the Tour Philippe le Bon (entrance fee €3.50) for a panoramic view of the city, which was breathtaking, especially with the sun setting over the rooftops. 🌇 Dijon is also the starting point of the Route des Grands Crus, so we took a short drive to the nearby vineyards, which were beautiful even in winter. #francetrip Just got back from a delightful trip to Bourgogne (Burgundy), France, and I’m still dreaming about the rolling vineyards and medieval towns! 🍇🍷 We started our journey in Beaune, the wine capital of the region. The entrance to the famous Hôtel-Dieu (Hospices de Beaune) was just €12, and it’s a must-see! The history, colorful tiled roofs, and stunning architecture were so impressive. 🏰 Afterward, we wandered through the cobbled streets, stopping by local wine shops for tastings. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines were divine, and each glass seemed to tell its own story. We then drove through the Route des Grands Crus, a scenic road lined with endless vineyards. The views were breathtaking, and we made stops at small, family-owned wineries to learn about wine-making and, of course, taste more wine! 🍷 We visited the village of Chablis, known for its crisp white wines, and had a delicious lunch at a local bistro, where I tried escargot for the first time. It was surprisingly tasty! 🐌 Our last stop was Dijon, famous for its mustard. The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, with its impressive art collection, had free entry, which was a pleasant surprise. #myhiddengems During my travels in the Burgundy region, Dijon was yet another beautiful place I ended up in without any prior plans. I was then trying to get to newer places and avoid the crowds. Dijon did turn out to be pleasant. It's the type of place that offers something for everyone. What is absolutely noticeable when you spend your time here is that it has a rich history of art with the likes of Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne and Dijon’s Notre Dame Cathedral. Another interesting thing i realised when socialising with people. A lot of tourists here were also doing the nearby countryside when visiting Dijon. Belvédère de Talant, which is under an hour of walking is a great example of that. Along with Beaune, Besançon, and Semur-en-Auxois in driving distances. A thing i loved about Dijon, was the number of parks and open spaces. This gave the city a more laid back vibe. A personal favourite is the garden called Jardin Darcy. I also explored the outdoors when visiting lake kir and of course there are the Arquebuse botanical gardens with walking paths and lovely gardens. As for the food scene, an important aspect of my stays in foreign lands. Let me tell you the food in Dijon is delightful. With over two dozen Michelin rated restaurants, there is no dearth of places to pick. Should you want to treat yourself to something special. And the traditional offerings like coq au vin or more modern cuisine like tartare de boeuf shouldn't be missed. This is a bakery that I went into because it looked delicious while traveling in Dijon, France. It has a clean atmosphere and is really delicious, so I recommend it!! I ate financier and mini brioche In particular, the acorn-shaped mini brioche was really delicious. The top part felt like a small pastry, and when you cut it in half, there was cream inside. Dijon, the largest city in the Bourgogne region of France, is famous for its gourmet food. I recommend a good restaurant for lunch in Dijon. I had jambon persillé as an appetizer. It is a local dish, and it was really delicious when eaten with bread with ham and parsley! I had beef steak as a main dish. The sauce was Bourgogne red wine sauce and it was delicious! I recommend this cafe that I visited twice while traveling in Dijon, France. There are various types of tea and coffee. If you usually order coffee, you get the coffee of the day! The tea was 5 euros and came with a small pound cake, which was nice. I had a croissant for breakfast, which was big and chewy and really delicious. The French say that humans created Bordeaux, and God created Burgundy. Burgundy is the land that God loves the most, and Dijon is the capital of Burgundy. Many years ago, the first stop of my study abroad journey to France was in Dijon, where I studied at the University of Dijon and later worked as a Chinese teacher at the same university. Dijon left a very deep impression on me. Dijon, located about 290 kilometers southeast of Paris, is the capital of the Burgundy region and the capital of the Côte-d'Or department. It is also the most populous city in the region with a long history dating back to the Roman era. During the Middle Ages, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Burgundy and has preserved a large number of historical and cultural heritage sites within the city. From Paris to Dijon by train, after leaving the Dijon train station, you can quickly see a quiet urban park along the main road. It's very retro, with towering trees and water systems. Walking in it is very relaxing and comfortable. But it is said that this was a madhouse in the 14th century. (Photos 1-6) Continuing forward is the beginning of the city of Dijon, the Porte Guillaume triumphal arch (photos 7, 8). This is an 18th century triumphal arch named in honor of the 11th century reformer Guillaume. Its extension is the Rue de la Liberté, the busiest commercial street in Dijon. From here, arrows and the city symbol of Dijon, the owl (photo 9), are marked on the pedestrian street, guiding tourists to explore the old town of Dijon. Following the owl route, passing through the small square (photo 10), you will arrive at the Cathedral of Dijon (photos 11, 12), a Gothic-style Roman Catholic church built between 1281 and 1325. The exterior of the cathedral is intricate and majestic, but the inside is somewhat chilly. As a non-Catholic, I have only been inside once and only took a quick glance. The owl represents wisdom and luck in Dijon, so if you come to Dijon, you must touch the owl on the outer wall of the Dijon Cathedral (photo 13) to bring good luck. The owl statue is on the outer wall facing the left side of the cathedral. Every day, there are endless people queuing up to touch the owl statue, yearning for luck. In addition, the Cathedral is also decorated with another symbol of Dijon, the Jacquemart Clock (unfortunately there is no photo). In 1382, Philip II of Burgundy brought Jacquemart from Courtrai, Belgium, and installed it on the south tower of the Cathedral the following year. In 1651, Jacqueline was added to take turns ringing the bell with Jacquemart. In 1714 or shortly thereafter, at the request of local poet Aimé Pélisson, a boy named Jacquelinette was added. In 1884, a girl named Jacquelinette was added. In 1840, the Dijon Cathedral was listed as a French historical monument. Therefore, there are four little people on the Jacquemart clock who ring the bell at regular intervals: Jacquemart and Jacqueline ring the big bell on the hour, while their "children" Jacquelinette and Jacquelinette ring the small bell every quarter of an hour.
