Hongludi Nanshan Fude Temple

Hongludi Nanshan Fude Temple, commonly referred to as Hongludi Earth God Temple or simply Hongludi (the place name representing the temple), is a temple located in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City. It is situated on the mountainside of Nanshijiao Mountain (Hongludi Mountain) at an altitude of 330 meters, hence the name Nanshan. During the Qing Dynasty, the Lu family, Hakka people from Zhao'an, Fujian, crossed the sea to Taiwan. The second generation settled in the Nanshijiao area, which became the Lu family's property. Due to a large rock at the foot of Nanshijiao Mountain, the place was named Hongludi. Many tea farmers in the mountainous area built a small shrine to worship the Earth God for peace. At that time, the mountain roads were rugged and difficult to traverse, so few outsiders visited. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the temple underwent three reconstructions, gradually forming its current scale. The legend of the Earth God responding to prayers spread, making the temple increasingly popular and well-known. Visitors can not only worship the Earth God but also hike the Xiaobaiyue Nanshijiao Mountain behind the temple or enjoy the scenery in front of the main hall, with different charms during the day and night.
