Huangguoshu: Journey Through a Water Curtain Wonderland into a Real-life Fairy Tale

Scenic Area Overview Huangguoshu Scenic Area is located in Zhenning Bouyei and Miao Autonomous County, Anshun City, Guizhou Province. It is one of the world's famous waterfalls, with Huangguoshu Waterfall as its centerpiece, surrounded by several distinctive attractions including Doupotang Waterfall and Tianxing Bridge. Best Time to Visit Wet season: Generally from June to October, when the waterfall has a large volume of water, creating a magnificent and spectacular scene, though visitor numbers are higher. In October, the waterfall usually reaches its peak flow for the year, presenting a breathtaking view. Note that the Water Curtain Cave may be closed for safety reasons, so check park announcements in advance. Dry season: December to February of the following year, when the waterfall flow is smaller, splitting into several streams cascading down from the cliff top, presenting a different kind of elegant beauty. There are also fewer visitors during this time, allowing for a more leisurely appreciation of the scenery. Transportation Guide Self-driving: You can use navigation apps to plan your route to the scenic area. Parking lots are available for convenience. Public transportation: Independent travelers can take long-distance buses or trains to Anshun City, then transfer to local tourist buses that go directly to the scenic area. Tickets and Fees Peak season (March 1 to November 30): Entrance ticket is RMB 160 per person, sightseeing bus ticket is 50 yuan per person, insurance is 10 yuan per person, one-way escalator is 30 yuan per person, round-trip escalator is 50 yuan per person, and cable car is 10 yuan per person, available for purchase as needed. Typically, basic ticket packages include entrance ticket (with sightseeing bus) at 220 yuan per person; entrance ticket (with sightseeing bus + escalator) at 270 yuan per person. Off-season (December 1 to February 28): Entrance ticket is 150 yuan per person, with other fees remaining the same. Touring Route The scenic area is divided into three main areas: the Great Waterfall, Tianxing Bridge, and Doupotang. The recommended visiting order is: Morning: First, visit the Doupotang Scenic Area, which features the widest natural dam-type waterfall in the Huangguoshu waterfall group, 105 meters wide and 21 meters high. Here you can appreciate the breadth and magnificence of the waterfall and experience the scene described by Xu Xiake: "Hearing the rumbling water from afar, looking north through the mountain gap, suddenly water cascades down from the northeast mountain slope, plunging into the deep pool, with only its upper part visible as a horizontal white expanse several zhang wide, like snow surging in the air, while the lower part is hidden by the opposite cliff." Noon: Have lunch at restaurants or food stalls in the scenic area, tasting local specialties such as Zhi Ji beef noodles and sour soup beef. Afternoon: Next, tour the Tianxing Bridge Scenic Area, which features dense stone pillars and lush vegetation, combining mountains, water, forests, and caves. Stroll through this area to appreciate various unique karst landforms and feel the wonders of nature. Finally, visit the Great Waterfall Scenic Area. The waterfall is about 77.8 meters high and 101.0 meters wide, making it the largest waterfall in Asia. First, take the elevator or climb the mountain path to the viewing platform above the waterfall to overlook the spectacular scene and feel its magnificent momentum. Then walk down along the waterfall viewing path to the bottom of the waterfall to experience its grandeur and roaring sound up close. You can also pass through the Water Curtain Cave to hear, see, and touch the waterfall from inside and outside, experiencing the waterfall's charm from all perspectives. However, please pay attention to safety, follow the park's visiting rules, and do not climb or enter prohibited areas. Important Notes Due to the heavy mist around Huangguoshu Waterfall, it's recommended to bring a raincoat or waterproof jacket to avoid getting wet. The paths in the scenic area are quite steep, so comfortable shoes are recommended for walking. The sunlight in Guizhou is strong, so bring sunscreen, sun hats, and other sun protection items. Protect the environment by not littering, keeping the scenic area clean and beautiful. Tickets for Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area need to be reserved in advance, up to 15 days ahead and at least 1 day before your visit.
