Xijin Ancient Ferry

Song-Yuan Ancient Street, also known as Xijin Ancient Ferry Street, is located at the foot of Yuntai Mountain in western Zhenjiang. This millennium-old street was historically situated along the Yangtze River with its own dock, where the Italian traveler Marco Polo once disembarked to journey south of the river. The street is lined with interconnected carved wooden buildings that once housed incense shops. At its center stands the only Lamaist street-crossing stone pagoda in Jiangnan, built during the Yuan Dynasty. Along the street, you'll also find Ming Dynasty's Guanyin Cave, Qing Dynasty's Life-Saving Association, and the 1889-built British Consulate. Zhenjiang's Song-Yuan Ancient Street is a historical relic constructed along the Po Mountain Plank Road. Xijin Ferry Ancient Street preserves the most concentrated and intact collection of Zhenjiang's cultural relics, serving as the "cultural vein" of this historic city. Key attractions include the former British Consulate, Fifty-Three Steps, Life-Saving Association, Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda, Guanyin Cave, Waiting Ferry Pavilion, and Chaoyan Suan Mountain. While technological progress and social development have diminished Xijin Ferry's function as a port, its living fossil-like features have been remarkably well preserved.
