Hidden Gems in Xiata for a Reverse Lunar New Year Trip

How can I make the most of my limited time and experience the essence of Ili? In this post, I've selected five must-visit attractions in Ili during July and August, perfect for first-time visitors or those seeking an in-depth experience. 1. Sayram Lake: Sayram Lake is unique in Xinjiang, offering a rich tapestry of scenery with both grasslands and a lake. It's also close to Yining, making it ideal for a day trip. The weather is usually better in the morning. Guozigou Valley and Huanghu Village are conveniently located between Yining and Sayram Lake, making them worthwhile stops along the way. 2. Xiata: By July and August, the snow lines on other mountains have receded significantly or disappeared altogether. However, Xiata's snow-capped peaks remain majestic year-round. During these months, you can take the Yizhao Highway directly to Xiata. It's best to stay near the scenic area entrance the day before and start early the next day to avoid crowds and enjoy the typically better morning weather. 3. Joan Kushtai: If May and June are the time to visit Kalajun Grassland, then July and August belong to Joan Kushtai. Located next to Kalajun, Joan Kushtai is known as a real-life version of Zelda. Be sure to stay overnight and immerse yourself in the dreamy landscapes reminiscent of the movie "Heidi." 4. Kurdening: Kurdening is adjacent to Qasi, and both grasslands offer similar scenery. However, Kurdening boasts larger and more extensive spruce forests, creating a more layered landscape. The scenic area has well-established glamping sites, offering a fantastic overnight experience. 5. Nalati: This is a very popular attraction, but its scenery lives up to its reputation. With the Aerial Grassland, River Valley Grassland, and Panlong Ancient Road, Nalati offers a diverse range of landscapes. What other grasslands have, Nalati has, and what Nalati has, other grasslands may not. Due to its popularity, it can get crowded, especially the shuttle buses. For a better experience, consider staying within the scenic area and exploring by car.
