White Village

Zahara de la Sierra is a municipality in the province of Cadiz, in the hills of Andalusia, southern Spain around 105 kilometers away from Seville. It is perched on the mountain overlooking a valley and man-made lake formed by the dam that must be driven to access the town. It is considered to be one of the white villages, because most of the housings are painted in white. The Plaza Mayor represents the town centre and there are excellent views of the square from the 16th century clocktower, as well as the lake and surroundings countries side from the nearby mirador. The white village is an important and photogenic spot, there are some fascinating stone fountains and most of the 16th to 17th century houses are attractiveily decorated with flowers in colourful pots.
