Church of Santa María de la Mesa

It is located at Plaza de Zahara, s/n 11688 Zahara de la Sierra s/n 11688 Cadiz, and is 105 kilometers away from Seville. The church, completed in 1779, is an example of Andalusia style of religious architecture, coinciding with the highly decorated and heavily ornamented style of the height of the Baroque periods. The bell tower which stands on the foot of the right hand nave, in two parts, the tower and the belfry. The altarpiece is beautifully carved in wood, full of ornamentation which attracts the observer's eye. Turning from the crossing to face the opposite end of the church, one can admire the choir, the place reserve for clergy to chant prayers and celebrate divine offices. The church is small but beautiful and impressive in the centre of the historic monumental centre of picturesque Zahara de la Sierra.
