Captivated by the Ancient Architecture

Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, located on the island of Central Java. This temple was built in the ninth century AD. At that time, Indonesia was still a Buddhist kingdom (Syailendra dynasty). The temple was built to serve as a place of worship for Buddhists. Seen from above, Borobudur looks like a large Mandala, representing the human journey from reincarnation (samsara) to nirvana (nirvana). The Borobudur Temple has 9 floors (6 square terraces and 3 circular terraces). This terraced world is divided into three levels: Kamadhatu (the lowest is the world of desire), Rupadhatu (the middle is the real world) and Arupadhatu (the circular platform is the world of spirit). The platform of Borobudur Temple is higher and smaller. There are also four staircases in four sections (east, south, west, north). Borobudur consists of 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues.
