Liaohe River

Liaohe River, a river in the southern part of Northeast China. Before the Han Dynasty it was called the Juli River, in the Han Dynasty it was called the Daliao River, and after the Five Dynasties it was called the Liao River. The Liaohe River originates from Guangtou Mountain in the Qilaotu Mountains in Pingquan City, Hebei Province. It flows through four provinces (autonomous regions) including Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Jilin and Liaoning, and flows into the Bohai Sea at the Shuangtaizi River estuary in Panshan County. It is 1,345 kilometers long and has a basin area of ​​219,000 square kilometers. It is one of the seven major rivers in China. Due to the influence of climate, floods are frequent in the Liaohe River Basin, with major floods occurring on average every 7 to 8 years and general floods occurring on average every 2 to 3 years. The Liaohe River Basin is one of China's water-scarce regions, especially in the middle and lower reaches, where water shortage is even more serious. Due to a large number of human factors, the Liaohe River has become one of the most polluted rivers in China. The water of the Liaohe River cannot support any living organisms, cannot be used for irrigation, and is not suitable for drinking by humans and animals. Since 1993, the Liaohe River remediation project has been launched, and pollution-discharging units that fail to meet the standards have been severely cracked down in accordance with the law, with certain results achieved.
