Winding up into the misty mountains of Alishan, Taiwan, felt like entering a dream. As the train climbed through dense forests and past cascading waterfalls, the air turned crisp and pine-scented. We wandered along peaceful forest trails, surrounded by towering cypress trees that seemed to whisper ancient stories. The Sacred Tree and the serene Sisters Ponds felt like sacred relics of nature, standing still in time. At Alishan Old Street, we sampled local mountain tea and warm bowls of bamboo rice, savoring the quiet rhythm of village life. The charm of the small shops, filled with handmade goods and regional treats, added to the sense of being in a world far removed from the rush of the city. One of the most surreal moments was riding the vintage Alishan Forest Railway. Its red carriages wound through tunnels and curved along steep mountain edges, revealing breathtaking views at every turn.
