The history of "Wat Sri Thammaram" is a temple built during the reign of King Rama IV of Rattanakosin. The original name was "Wat Tha Chi or Wat Sri Thammahay Sok". Later, when His Royal Highness Prince Damrong Rajanubhab traveled to Yasothon or Yasothon, he visited Wat Tha Chi or Wat Sri Thammahay Sok. He changed the name to "Wat Asokaram".
