Crossing the Bohai Sea: From the Jiaodong Peninsula to the Liaodong Peninsula

On the morning of August 15, 2024, to reach Northeast China as quickly as possible, I drove from Gaomi directly to Yantai Port and boarded the Changshan Island ferry. Amidst the sound of the ship's horn, we set sail for Dalian. The straight-line distance from Yantai to Dalian is 89 nautical miles (approx. 164.8 km). Traveling around the Bohai Bay by land would be over 1,500 km, which is both strenuous and time-consuming. The ferry crossing the Bohai Sea takes about seven hours, which is relatively easier and faster. The Bohai Sea is China's inland sea, surrounded by land on three sides. Its eastern boundary with the Yellow Sea is a line drawn from Laotieshan Cape on the Liaodong Peninsula, through the Miaodao Islands, to Penglai Cape at the northern tip of the Shandong Peninsula. During the voyage, gazing at the blue expanse of the Bohai Sea from the deck, I was struck by its vastness and depth, a testament to the sea's infinite charm. As the sunset's afterglow spread across the water, the golden ripples shimmered, creating a dreamlike, enchanting scene… At 8pm, the ship docked at Dalian Port, where countless city lights already twinkled.
