Exploring the serenity of Yuntai, intoxicated amidst the mountains and waters In the heart of the Taihang Mountain range lies a secret realm that combines grandeur and elegance—Yuntai Mountain. The moment I set foot on this land, I was deeply captivated by nature’s craftsmanship and the charm shaped by time. Every step felt like walking through a poem and painting, every glance froze into an eternal memory. The essence of Yuntai Mountain is Red Stone Gorge. The instant you enter the canyon, the cool air dispels the heat of the journey. The crimson cliffs on both sides burn like fire, marks left by 1.2 billion years of geological changes, with layers resembling the earth’s solidified pulse. Sunlight filters through the narrow crevices, casting mottled shadows on the rock walls, harmonizing beautifully with the emerald pools below. Walking along the winding plank road, the stream babbles beneath your feet, crystal-clear water revealing small fish swimming freely and the sand and stones clearly visible. White Dragon Waterfall cascades down the cliff, scattering droplets like pearls, and amid the roaring sound, you can almost hear the heartbeat of nature, inspiring awe at the wonders of creation. Leaving Red Stone Gorge, the gentle beauty of Tanpu Gorge offers a different scene. This place truly lives up to its reputation of “a spring every three steps, a waterfall every five steps, a pool every ten steps.” The Y-shaped waterfall flows like a silver ribbon, with a water curtain cave hidden behind the falls. Inside, stalactites take on countless shapes, and stepping in feels like entering a fairyland. The Everlasting Spring’s water is cool and sweet; legend says the Medicine King Sun Simiao once drank this water to prolong his life. A sip refreshes and sweetens the palate, as if washing away all fatigue. In Monkey Valley, wild macaques are lively and adorable, climbing and leaping or sitting quietly foraging, adding vitality and wild charm to the tranquil valley. Climbing up to Zhuyu Peak. At the summit, the panoramic view of Yuntai Mountain unfolds—rolling mountains shrouded in mist, like an ink painting scroll. At sunrise, golden sunlight bathes the peaks, and Chongyang Pavilion looks even more ancient in the morning light. Standing here, Wang Wei’s poem “Knowing my brothers climb high places, each wearing zhuyu but one less person” comes to mind, as if traveling through a thousand years to appreciate this magnificent landscape with the poet. On the glass plank road, beneath your feet is a bottomless abyss, beside you are sheer cliffs—thrilling yet offering a breathtaking view of the surging sea of clouds, stirring heroic feelings. On the way down, Zifang Lake lies like a green jade quietly resting among the mountains, its surface reflecting the verdant hills on both sides. Occasionally, a breeze stirs ripples, like folds in time. The aroma from the snack street at the service area on the shore comforts our hungry stomachs with rustic mountain flavors, adding a touch of everyday life to this journey. The beauty of Yuntai Mountain is the grandeur of the red stone Danxia, the vitality of waterfalls and streams, the majesty atop Zhuyu Peak, and the fusion of nature and culture. Here, I touched the geological memories of billions of years, listened to the symphony of mountains and waters, and understood the homesickness in poetry. As the sun sets, we reluctantly say goodbye, but the elegance and grandeur of Yuntai’s landscape have already been deeply engraved in our hearts, becoming an unforgettable travel memory.
