Shenxianju: Unveiling Nature's Secrets

Route: 10:00 am - Take the cable car (South Cableway). The ride is 5 minutes and the line moves quickly. Descend via the southern hiking trail, finishing around 2:20 pm. The scenery during the descent is beautiful, with birdsong and the gentle murmur of streams. The greenery would be even more stunning in warmer weather. The mountaintop and the foot of the mountain offer contrasting experiences: the summit is bustling, while the base is tranquil. We essentially covered the entire southern route: South Gate > South Cableway > Southern Heavenly Stairs > South Sea Bridge > Lotus Platform > Green Cloud Stairs/One-Line Sky > Crouching Dragon Bridge > Dream Bridge > Bright Mirror Platform > North Sea Platform > Ruyi Bridge > Peach Garden > Painted Screen and Smoke Clouds (Yangmei Manufacturing Bureau loop) > Maiden's Smile > Laojun Platform (a large stone platform offering elevated views) > Buddha's Shadow and Lotus Charm (popular photo spot, expect lines - we skipped it) > (Return to the hiking trail; those not hiking down can take the cable car) > Southern Heavenly Stairs > South Sea Bridge > Southern Hiking Trail > South Gate‼️ If you want a longer hike, you can take the northern loop at the fork, for example, head north from Ruyi Pavilion (Picture 4), but I suspect I wouldn't have had the energy to walk down the mountain if I'd added that loop. ‼️Plan your route and descent point in advance. There are many staff members along the way who are very friendly and helpful; don't hesitate to ask them for directions. Hiking down requires backtracking a section of the path, passing South Sea Bridge and continuing downwards (Picture 8). Start your hike early to avoid the noisy crowds of tour groups. Consider staying at a guesthouse at the foot of the mountain to get an early start. Prices at the small shops are reasonable and regulated. The staff throughout the scenic area are friendly and helpful. The entire area is well-managed, catering especially well to seniors. I saw several people in their seventies and eighties enjoying themselves. After your hike, satisfy your hunger at a local restaurant. Since Xianju High-Speed Rail Station is currently under construction, there are limited shopping options outside the station, with only a convenience store and a bakery inside. The return bus passes Wuyue Plaza (8 km from the high-speed rail station); you can ask the driver if they will stop there. 🔔Helpful Tips ◦ ☕️Food and Drinks: There are several restaurants and snack bars within the scenic area, but prices are relatively high.
