Xiamen Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Gulangyu Island Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
I just came back from Xiamen, and it was fantastic! Let me share my genuine feelings with you
🌦️Weather Notice: The temperature in March and April is quite comfortable, but there are many rainy days. Friends who come to Xiamen should be mentally prepared.
🏨Accommodation Recommendation:
I suggest staying on Xiamen Island, especially in hotels from the train station to Zhongshan Road, which are more convenient for travel. It's best to choose hotels near the subway, as most of the scenic spots in Xiamen are on the island.
🚆Transportation Strategy:
If you take a high-speed train to Xiamen, it is recommended to get off at 'Xiamen Station', which is more convenient as it's in the city center. If you get off at 'Xiamen North', you can take a bus or subway line 1 to the island. Gaoqi Airport is also on the island, and you can take a bus or airport shuttle after leaving the airport.
🍜Food Recommendation:
Xiamen is mainly known for its Minnan cuisine, snacks, and seafood. The food in Xiamen is relatively sweet and light, which may not be suitable for those who like spicy food. There are particularly many taro-based dishes (for specific food recommendations, please see my food guide).
🌊Attractions Recommendation:
Actually, the main reason to visit Xiamen is to see the sea. The weather is very important for sea viewing; if the weather is good, the sea will be very blue and beautiful. Below are the places I think you must visit: Huangcuo Beach - Wan Yue Po, Health Trail Linhai Line, Pearl Bay - Zengcuo'an Music Square, Jiahe Park - Ten-mile Long Embankment - Jimei School Village, Shangli Reservoir, Guanyinshan Beach, Zhonggu Cableway, Shapowei - Twin Towers - Yanwu Bridge.
🏝️Gulangyu, remember to buy tickets in advance, and it is recommended to reserve a whole day for it. The island is suitable for leisurely strolls. For strategies about Gulangyu, you can see the introduction on my homepage.
⚠️Points to Avoid:
The specialty stores on Zhongshan Road are traps, and it is not recommended to buy anything there;
There are many rip-offs in the Zengcuo'an commercial street, most of which are not delicious, really do not go there to eat; the homestays in Zengcuo'an mostly do not match the pictures at all, it is really not recommended to stay in homestays;
Do not trust the so-called native guides or taxi drivers on the street, they are deceivers; many seafood vendors in the Eighth Market will rip you off, short-weigh or switch products, be very careful when eating seafood, it is recommended to reweigh it at the market entrance;
Do not drive by yourself, as parking is hard to find in Xiamen and it is very congested during holidays. If you are driving to Xiamen, it is more convenient to park your car at the hotel and take a taxi or subway.
🗺️Travel Route:
Day1: Arrive in Xiamen ➡️ Eighth Market ➡️ Zhongshan Road;
Day2: Nanputuo ➡️ Shapowei ➡️ Xiamen University White City ➡️ Pearl Bay ➡️ Music Square ➡️ Xitou Xia ➡️ Huangcuo Beach ➡️ Yefengzhai ➡️ Guanyinshan (all on the Island Ring Road);
Day3: One-day tour of Gulangyu;
Day4: Zhonggu Cableway ➡️ Botanical Garden ➡️ Health Trail Linhai Line;
Day5: Ten-mile Long Embankment ➡️ Dragon Boat Pool ➡️ Jiahe Park ➡️ Jimei Dasha ➡️ Shigu Road. Xiamen·Fujian
Xiamen 3-day 2-night travel guide suggestions to bookmark
Sharing my tips for a 3-day 2-night trip to Xiamen, for friends who are thinking of going there soon🌟
✈️Travel - Cost 1600💰(round trip)
◾️I left from Chengdu at the end of June, and the round-trip airfare was reasonable, but it might be a bit more expensive now due to the summer holidays
🏨Accommodation - Cost 1500💰(two nights)
◾️I stayed at the Ruiyi Hotel, which is close to Gulangyu Island. I chose a sea-view room, and the scenery was indeed nice with good value for money. The hotel was very popular, the only downside was that check-in was only available after 3 pm, so I had to wait half a day at the hotel, and to get takeout, I had to go to the parking lot at the back
🍽️Dining - Cost 1750💰(three days)
◾️Tianjie Fu Seafood Stall - 300💰: A must-visit restaurant, the place is small but the taste is really good, the seafood is fresh, and it's good value for money. I recommend the seafood roll and oyster pancake
◾️Zuiyi No.1 Seafood Stall - 750💰: Another must-visit restaurant, it seems to be more popular than Tianjie Fu, with a richer menu. Every dish is good, I recommend the lemon crab and ginger duck, but the spicy frog is just so-so
◾️Tangyan · Old Xiamen Private Kitchen - 350💰: A must-visit restaurant, featured in 'The Taste', many celebrities have dined here. I really recommend their yellow croaker with vermicelli, even as someone who doesn't like fish, I found it delicious. The soup is very fresh, and the crispy taro duck is also good (Zhao Lusi loves it too)
◾️Lychee Couple · Seafood Private Kitchen - 350💰: This one leans more towards private kitchen style, with a variety of dishes and stronger flavors. The cold fish belly is very tasty, and the pork bone tea is also good. Honestly, the number one ranked golden soup seafood stew was just average
🏝️Attractions - Cost 190💰(Gulangyu ferry ticket + attractions)
◾️Shapowei: A trendy spot for taking photos, with many stalls selling trinkets. There are some popular photo spots so it's quite crowded. Taking the elevator, you can take pictures at the Shapowei rainbow wall (you must muster the courage to take photos, as everyone below is watching you)
◾️Gulangyu: Buy ferry tickets in advance on 'Yu Jian Xiamen'. I bought a luxury boat VIP cabin, which was really comfortable on the way there, with no need to queue for security checks and direct access to the lounge with staff reception. The VIP cabin is comfortable, but the return trip was on a regular boat. To be honest, Xiamen is too hot, and it's really hard to walk around the island. I ended up paying 50 for a sightseeing car
◾️Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street: It's like many cities' snack and shopping streets, nice to stroll around, but the food is just so-so
✅Conclusion
Overall, Xiamen is a very suitable city for travel. If it doesn't rain, the scenery is really beautiful, the sky is very blue, but it's a bit hot recently. The locals are also very warm and hospitable. Chatting with many locals, everyone seems very nice. The food tastes are acceptable, and I will definitely go again if I have the chance, to visit other attractions that I didn't get to check out

6 things you must know before going to Xiamen
1⃣️The essence of Xiamen's attractions is concentrated in Siming District, where the high-speed railway station is also located. Accommodation can be arranged in the Zengcuoan area, which is convenient for going to other places and has hotels and homestays of various price ranges.

4⃣️The most romantic travel experience in Xiamen is to ride an electric bike around the island road, starting from Zengcuoan and riding along the island road and the south island road to Xiangshan Yacht Club, riding and enjoying the scenery, stopping when you see a beautiful place, round trip 3 hours.
5⃣️As the central coastal city of Fujian, Xiamen's consumption is not low, the cost of three days and two nights is about 1k, two nights in Zengcuoan 400+, car rental and food 600+
6⃣️Don't miss the Bashi Old Street in Xiamen for food hunting. This is the most lively food street in Xiamen, a seafood market, with many authentic food stalls, affordable prices

Hi, all you foodie friends! Today, I want to shout out loud to you that the delicacies of Zhongshan Road in Xiamen are simply a treasure trove! Who understands the value of this taste? I, a seasoned food blogger, certainly do! And, I've also had the pleasure of indulging in the longed-for Nanyang seafood here, which was simply too blissful!
Zhongshan Road, this street brimming with historical charm, is not only a bustling commercial street in Xiamen but also a paradise for food. From the beginning to the end of the street, there is a dazzling array of snacks and restaurants, each bite an ultimate temptation for the taste buds. And what I want to highly recommend today is the Nanyang seafood here.
I remember that day, as I was strolling down Zhongshan Road, suddenly a tempting aroma of seafood hit my nose. Following the scent, I found an unassuming little shop, with a variety of fresh seafood displayed at the entrance. On a whim, I decided to go in and try some.
Unexpectedly, this taste made me completely fall in love with the Nanyang seafood here. The tender fish, succulent shrimp, and smooth shellfish, each bite was a taste of the ocean, endlessly memorable. Moreover, the seafood here is made to order, ensuring the freshness and flavor of the ingredients.
Apart from seafood, there are many other delicacies on Zhongshan Road worth trying. Such as the fragrant barbecue, the unique taste of Minnan snacks, and those time-honored restaurants hidden deep in the alleys, all are places of delicious food that make people linger.
So, if you come to Xiamen, don't miss out on Zhongshan Road, this street of delicacies. Whether it's to savor the freshness of Nanyang seafood or to explore those hidden street snacks, your taste buds will be treated to the ultimate enjoyment.

Zhongshan Road in Xiamen is an unmissable treasure spot and a haven for delicious food
🌊 The romance of Xiamen is not limited to the sea, but also includes the endless delicacies and romantic blues moments on Zhongshan Road. You should definitely visit Xiamen, stroll down Zhongshan Road, explore Gulangyu Island, and rush to witness a sunrise at five in the morning, where the seaside is forever romantic.
📕 If you're talking about the best street to visit in Xiamen, it has to be Zhongshan Road, especially in the evening. The architecture here will make you feel like you're abroad, yet it still retains the domestic atmosphere of life, with endless food and unique snacks to explore.
🍔 Food recommendations: Five-spice, satay noodles, bamboo shoot jelly, peanut soup, egg burgers. My personal favorite is the egg burger, it's really delicious!

A Trip to Xiamen’s Centre!
Location: Zhongshan Pedestrian Street
City: Xiamen, Fujian
Xiamen has beautiful beaches and beautiful islands.
There is a beautiful pedestrianised only street called Zhongshan Street in the middle of the main island. You can see the iconic white Qi Lou buildings and nice palm trees.
This is a wonderful place to buy local snacks and eat yummy dinner. You can spend a good afternoon here to relax and shop!

Xiamen Botanical Garden Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Big park
I was recommended to make a trip to the botanical garden when I was visiting Xiamen for the first time and I absolutely loved it. I spent a few hours walking around and could not cover everything. Beautiful flowers and palm trees.
You can actually get some good exercise climbing to the top of the mountain but there are also the option to take the shuttle bus.
The most popular place to take pictures are by the cactuses. They are super cool.

Beautiful Xiamen- Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden is a bucketlist item when visiting Xiamen. It is located on the southern side of the island, close to Xiamen University, the cable car, Shapowei and Zhongshan Road. It usually costs 40¥ to enter, but entry is free during the major public holidays.
It is recommended to set aside about 3-5 hours to explore the gardens, as there is a lot to see.
The gardens are home to around 4000 different plant species, and are divided in different sections, like the bamboo forrest, succulent garden or Pine and Fern Garden.
There are also plenty of temples to see, and beautiful lawns to have a picnic, or take a nap on.
It is a great place to take the kids, or to see some interesting plants and beautiful scenery

📍Xiamen, China
Xiamen university is said to be one of the most beautiful university in China. It’s located right next to the sea, makes Xiamen University always full of visitors. My cousins used to go to this university to study for 4 years. I came to Xiada (the short name of Xiamen University) one day with my friend hoping we could stroll around enjoying the beauty of this campus. but unfortunately, that day, Xiada was closed for tourists. i asked the security why, they said there was a problem that needed to be fixed (i actually kinda forgot, also because at that time my Chinese wasn’t super good). I hope next time i can go back and enjoy the scenery inside this campus.
I said that the students studying at Xiamen University are too happy!
can face such beautiful scenery every day.
I said that the students studying at Xiamen University are too unfortunate,
every day to face the campus of tourists, the scenery is so good and romantic, do not know how to read books safely, do the country later The pillars...
Unfortunately, the performance of our two husbands and wives is too outstanding, and the difference between a few hundred percent and Xiamen University is missing. If my husband and wife can get together, this campus has a beautiful scenery!

Best Rooftop Terrace in Xiamen (Wanna Roof)
The experience I had at this location is like traveling to Hawaii for a vacation with Latin flavor. The design of the restaurant, the terrace, the color of the wall (Orange wall), the musical selections and the live Band makes this location the best place for tourist that wants to experience life in Xiamen.
The environment is great. Although there were a lot of people, I had to wait in line, In the end,I felt it was worth it.
The scenery at night was great. I will recommend going in the evening, take some lovely pictures with the orange walls (I would suggest colorful clothes) and then have a romantic dinner with Sea View. #rooftop #sea View #terrace #staycation #summervacation #awesomepic #beachlife #tripblazers #bucketlistreboot #mytripvlog #beachlife #foodie #passionpassport #nationalpark #

Xiamen!! Unbeatable sea view room with a balcony facing the ocean! Super enjoyable!
Walking on the beach√ Afternoon tea by the sea√ Super thoughtful service√ Free upgrade
Girls must lock down this homestay, it's super cost-effective, suitable for family trips, couples' vacations!
Excellent location
The location of the homestay is superb, right downstairs is the beach, and walking along the boardwalk will get you to Zengcuo'an. There is a password-protected door at the back, making it safe and convenient to enter and exit. The nearby bus station is also very close, making travel very convenient!
Unbeatable sea view, beautiful balcony
The room's balcony faces the ocean directly, with palm trees, beaches, and rocks all in sight. Listening to the waves crashing on the shore while drinking afternoon tea is simply a pleasure. Although the outdoor furniture on the balcony is a bit simple, the overall atmosphere is still amazing!
Comfortable room, fully equipped
The room is clean and tidy, with pure cotton bedding that is very comfortable to use. There is also a bathtub in the room where you can take a bath while enjoying the sun and the waves, which is really cozy!
Thoughtful service, like family
Both the owner and the housekeeper are very enthusiastic, and they are responsive during the stay. When leaving, they even gave away local specialties from Xiamen as gifts, which was particularly thoughtful. They also take great care of the elderly and children, giving a feeling of home.
Remember to get off at the Xiamen Island Ring Road station! It's insanely beautiful! Attached is a Xiamen travel guide
Don't ask why!!! Getting off is the sea!!!!
The moment you look up, you'll really go 'wow' out loud!!! Casual photos all look so good!!!
Not many people, and there's a large pine forest so you won't get sunburned!
Walk left for 10 minutes after getting off to reach the bustling Huangcuo Beach, where a stretch of coastline is lined with beach cafes. Walk right for 10 minutes to find the quiet Xitou Xia Beach!!!!
.
Stayed up late to organize this Xiamen travel guide, feel free to ask if you don't understand‼️‼️
.
✔️🚄When coming to Xiamen, prioritize Xiamen Station!!!! Xiamen Station is on the island, while Xiamen North Station is outside on Jimei Island, and it takes 40 minutes to drive to the island!
✔️Book ferry tickets at least 8 days in advance during holidays, 35 yuan per ticket is enough. The ticket includes a round trip, depart according to the ticket time and pier, and get on the ferry 15 minutes in advance. For the return trip, just wait at the pier for the ferry, the ticket is valid for 20 days for the return trip.
✔️Xiamen's worthwhile attractions: Gulangyu (Dadeji Bathing Beach, Shuzhuang Garden, Bagua Building, Sunlight Rock, Organ Art Center), Island Ring Road seaside, Mountain and Sea Trail Forest Line, Botanical Garden, Nanputuo Temple, Xiamen University, Shapowei, Ten-mile Long Embankment, Garden Expo Park, Jiageng Park, Jimei School Village
✔️Commonly visited beautiful beaches: Huangcuo Beach, Haiyun Terrace, Xitou Xia Beach, Music Square, Pearl Bay Calligraphy Square, Mountain and Sea Trail Forest Line. It's beautiful everywhere on sunny days, and nowhere looks good on cloudy days!!!
✔️For accommodation, prioritize hotels and then consider homestays. Xiamen is not big, anywhere in Siming District is fine!! If you like the seaside, choose Island Ring Road, if you want more food options and convenient transportation, consider near the train station or Wanda Plaza.
🍢Local food recommendations:
A Bian's Tavern, a place locals often go to, hidden in an old community, not in a tourist area, nor a popular internet spot! It's been open for hin many years, serving delicious Min cuisine specialty dishes, seafood, and braised flavors are good. Great value for money, the only downside is the queue during meal times!!
