The original Jimei School Village included: Xiamen Fisheries College, Jimei Navigation College, Jimei Normal Specialized School, Fujian Sports College, Jimei Finance and Economics Specialized School (all now merged into Jimei University), Jimei School for Overseas Chinese Students (Huaqiao University College of Chinese Language and Culture), Chinese Language and Culture School, Jimei Middle School, Jimei Elementary School, Jimei Kindergarten, and other schools, as well as facilities such as the South Great Hall, library, gymnasium, concert hall, and the Dragon Boat Pool Sailing Club. Jimei School Village was founded in 1913 by the renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Chen Jiageng, with substantial funding. Jimei School Village is the collective name for various schools and cultural institutions in Jimei. The total construction area of the schools reaches over three thousand mu, with architecture that blends Chinese and Western styles, reflecting the typical architectural style of the Minnan overseas Chinese hometown. Whether it is the tall and magnificent school buildings or the small and elegant pavilions, all feature glazed tile roofs, dragon ridges, phoenix eaves, and carved beams and painted rafters, which people call the 'Jiageng style'. The school has more than one hundred thousand teachers and students, forming a talent training system that ranges from preschool education to elementary, middle, and high schools, and from undergraduate education to master's and doctoral education. It is not only a beautiful place of intelligence but also a tourist attraction. Chen Jiageng first founded Jimei Elementary School and then Xiamen University, so the arcade buildings here are no less impressive than those of Xiamen University.
