Shuzhuang

Shuzhuang Garden is located in the southern part of Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, built in the second year of the Republic of China, facing the sea and backed by Sunlight Rock. It was originally the private villa of the local gentry Lin Erjia, and the owner of the garden named the garden after the homophonic of his word 'Shuzhuang'. Shuzhuang Garden is backed by Huanguang Rock, facing the sea, adjacent to Guanhai Garden to the east, and overlooking Gangzaihou to the west. The whole garden is divided into two parts: Canghai Garden and Bushan Garden, each with five scenes. The five scenes of Canghai are Meishoutang, Renqiuge, Zhenluting, Forty-four Bridge, and Zhaoliang Pavilion; the five scenes of Bushan are Wanshi Mountain House, Twelve Caves, Ye Ai Wulu, Tingchao Tower, and Xiaolan Pavilion. Lin Shuzhuang, whose name is Erjia, was born in Daixi, Xiamen in May of the 13th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. He is the eldest son of Chen Zongmei, the fifth son of Chen Shengyuan, the middle army general of Fujian Navy, and his milk name is Shizi.
