The Wang Family Courtyard is located in Jingsheng Town, Lingshi County, Shanxi Province. It was built by the Jingsheng Wang family over more than 300 years during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It includes five lanes, six forts, and one street, covering a total area of 250,000 square meters. Moreover, it is a museum of architectural art with traditional cultural characteristics. It is a national key cultural relics protection unit and a 4A-level tourist attraction. The architectural layout of the Wang Family Courtyard inherits the courtyard style of the front hall and rear sleeping quarters formed during the Western Zhou Dynasty in China. It provides ample space for external communication while satisfying the need for an internal private atmosphere, ensuring a hierarchy of respect and status, order between the old and young, and distinction between the internal and external, men and women. It also has a complete set of living functions, fully reflecting the dignity of official families and the regularity of clan and ritual systems. The Gaojiaya building complex consists of 35 courtyards and 342 rooms. The main courtyards, the Dunhou Residence and Ningrui Residence, are both three-entry quadrangle courtyards. In addition to the ancestral halls and embroidered buildings on both sides, each courtyard has its own kitchen courtyard and family school courtyard, as well as a shared academy, flower courtyard, servant courtyard, and surrounding wall. The four gates are strategically placed. The architectural decoration of the Wang Family Courtyard is the culmination of the 'delicate and dense' style of the Qing Dynasty, with structural accessories that are both dazzling and exquisite, graceful and elegant. For example, the wood carvings on the arches, lintels, and sparrow braces of the corridors, the stone carvings on the column bases and wall foundations, and the couplets and plaques in each courtyard are diverse in form and excellent in craftsmanship.
