Wuzhen - A Journey Through 1,300 Years of History and Culture

On the third day of our stay in Hangzhou, we decided to book a one-day tour to the renowned water towns of Wuzhen and Xitang. The tour booking service was conveniently located in our hotel, making the process quick and effortless. We made the reservation on the morning of our second day for the following day, and by that evening, we received all the necessary details about where to meet for the tour. Wuzhen, our first stop, is notable as the birthplace of the famous literary figure Mao Dun. This ancient town is one of the six most significant water towns in the Yangtze River Delta, with a history stretching back 1,300 years. The town is characterised by its well-preserved old buildings that line the riverbanks and its meandering streets that reflect traditional cultural values. What to do and eat? - Mao Dun museum Visit the Mao Dun Museum in Wuzhen to learn about the life and works of the renowned literary genius, Mao Dun. The museum showcases his contributions to Chinese literature and offers insights into his personal life. - Printed clothes museum Explore the Printed Clothes Museum, which exhibits the traditional craft of blue calico printing. You can see how these beautiful fabrics are made and learn about their historical significance in Chinese culture. - Dong Bo meat This delicious dish consists of pork belly braised in a herbal soup for many hours until it melts in your mouth. It's a flavorful and hearty treat that reflects the culinary traditions of the region.
