National Day Hiking in Anhui | Huizhou-Raozhou Ancient Post Road | Zhelin (Wuyuan Section).

The Huizhou-Raozhou Ancient Post Road was built in the Tang Dynasty. It is paved with bluestone slabs about 4 feet long. It is a must-pass route for merchants traveling north of the Yangtze River to Huizhou and Raozhou. Therefore, it is called "Ancient Huizhou Road", and "Huizhou-Raozhou Road" is the old "national highway". The "Wu Chu Fen Yuan" of Zhelin on the Huizhou-Raozhou Ancient Post Road is a historical site from the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period. It is the boundary line between Wu and Chu. It is now the boundary between Anhui and Jiangxi provinces. When you walk here, you will feel the boldness of crossing "two countries" with one foot. Today we are walking the Wuyuan section. After more than three hours of highway congestion, we finally arrived at the starting point of the ancient road, Zhangqian Village, Banqiao Township, Xiuning County, Anhui Province. Due to the large number of people walking the ancient road during the National Day holiday, the guesthouses in the village are almost full. Finally, we found a guesthouse with 3 rooms left, each at 120 yuan per night including breakfast for the next day. This guesthouse is not bad, clean and hygienic, with a good location. There is a free parking lot at the entrance, about 2 kilometers from the entrance of the ancient road, which is convenient. To save time, we drove along the winding mountain road in the village at 3 pm to the top of the ridge at the boundary between Anhui and Wuyuan. From the top of the ridge, we walked down the ancient road and finished the Wuyuan section first. Tomorrow we will walk the Anhui section, which is called Eighteen Folds. Most hikers come for the Eighteen Folds. After walking from the top of the ridge to the village below, we returned along the same route, taking a total of three hours. We returned to the guesthouse at 6 pm and had dinner there. The proprietress cooked a fish, stir-fried ham with green pepper and five or six other dishes for 300 yuan.
