A quaint and beautiful village in Wuyuan—Zhangcun

Located in Sikou Town, 13 kilometers away from Wuyuan County, there is an obscure little mountain village—Zhangcun. Zhangcun is a niche and secluded hamlet that has gradually become known to the world with the implementation of Wuyuan's comprehensive tourism planning in recent years. Judging by its name, it seems to be a village brimming with camphor trees, a place hidden beneath the shade of greenery. However, that's not the case. The only eye-catching feature of the village is an ancient camphor tree on the east side of the village. The ancient tree is rugged and has witnessed many years. Its canopy is massive and imposing, suggesting that the village name might have originated from this tree. Zhangcun is not large, and one can stroll through the entire village in less time than it takes to finish a meal. Entering the village is like stepping into an uninhabited land. The glittering stone paths snake through the village like serpents. The village is empty and silent, as if no one lives there, except for clusters of beautiful schoolchildren who are engrossed in their drawing lessons. The houses in the village, with their seemingly renovated yet orderly and meandering layout, add to the charm. Zhangcun is nestled against the mountains and faces the water, tranquil and pleasant, a true pastoral scene! The Zhangxi River, over a hundred meters wide, flows quietly in front of the village. Due to the low water season in early winter, more than half of the river in front of the village has dried up. The riverbed is covered with withered aquatic plants, and the mottled meandering puddles add a touch of interest. Overlooking the entire village, with its green mountains and waters, Huizhou-style houses, and the uncarved appearance of the village, highlights the natural beauty of Zhangcun. It is said that Zhangcun was also the location for the exterior shots of the movie 'Sparkling Red Star'. Gazing at the long plank bridge spanning the Zhangcun River, it's as if the figure of Xiao Dongzi once again appears before our eyes.
