He Alley by the ancient canal

He Alley on the bank of the ancient canal by Qingming Bridge in Wuxi is an old street running east-west. In the past, Wuxi had eighteen famous alleys, and He Alley was one of them. Inside He Alley, there is the old house of Qian Shaoqing, a local industrialist in Wuxi, and an ancient bridge, 'Dingsheng Bridge'. It is said that the earliest residents of He Alley were the descendants of Du Fu, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty. They settled here and made a living by operating husking mills, so the earliest name of He Alley was also 'Fire Alley'.
