The only temple in the world named after Kumarajiva

Kumarajiva Temple was built to commemorate the Western Regions' eminent monk Kumarajiva for his contributions to promoting Buddhism and translating scriptures. It is the only temple in the world named after Kumarajiva. Located on North Street, Wuwei City, Gansu Province, China, it is where the great Chinese Buddhist scripture translator Kumarajiva stayed for nearly 17 years. Kumarajiva Temple was first built during the Later Liang period. In 413 AD, Kumarajiva passed away in Chang'an at the age of 70. After his cremation, it was found that only his tongue remained intact. Following his last wishes, his disciples brought his tongue relic back to Wuwei's Kumarajiva Temple to build a pagoda for worship. With a history of over 1600 years, it is a precious relic for studying the culture of the Five Liang, Chinese Buddhism, and Western Regions Buddhism. During the flourishing Tang Dynasty, the Rosh Temple, located in the bustling area of Liangzhou, became a place where Western Regions envoys and monks from various countries gathered and exchanged ideas along the Silk Road. It made significant contributions to the exchange of religious culture and thoughts between China and the West, with far-reaching significance. Today, Kumarajiva Temple includes structures such as the Rosh Temple Pagoda, Mahavira Hall, Guanyin Hall, Great Sutra Hall, Kumarajiva Memorial Hall, Kumarajiva Library, Buddhist Relics Exhibition Room, Buddhist Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Room, Guest Hall, and Yunshui Hall.
