The entrance fee was €8, which felt very reasonable given the depth of the historical context and the preservation of the site. The fort served as a Nazi concentration camp during the war, and the exhibits are both sobering and enlightening. Walking through the grim cells, watchtowers, and barracks really brings home the harsh realities faced by prisoners. The audio guide provided a thorough and respectful recount of the fort’s history, making the visit both educational and emotional. After exploring the fort, I took some time to relax in the nearby village of Breendonk, which has a few quaint spots to grab a bite and reflect on the visit.
